What’s your weight and height?

I’m 5ft 4 and after years of being overweight I’m finally down to 9 stone 6.
Recent conversation with friend who said I should aim for about 8 and a half stone for my height despite me currently being in the ideal BMI range.
just wondering what others are and if you are happy with your weight.
I realise we all carry weight differently so not a goady threat by any means.
For the record I was 11 stone before the weight loss.

Despite weight loss still can’t get into anything smaller than a 12 .

5 feet 4 and currently weigh about 9 stone 3. Straight after having my baby I weighed 9 stone 10, which is the heaviest I've been. When I was marathon training I weighed 8 stone 7 and felt great.

I feel happiest and look my best at about 8 stone 9 or 8 stone 10 but really struggle to get down to that weight now. I'm currently at my top weight threshold before looking and feeling shit.

We all seem to carry weight differently though. I know people my height who are heavier than me but look considerably more attractive. Perhaps it's all down to confidence or knowing how best to dress to suit your shape.

I'm trying to avoid weighing myself now and just trying to eat and exercise well in the hope my shape will improve.

I find this very interesting- I’m 5’2 and 9 stone 4 and a size 8 in most shops. I’d like to be 8 stone 4, and plan to lose another stone over the next 3 months or so. I do have a lot of muscle from strength training with a PT but still have plenty of body fat to lose.

Waitingfordoggo · 02/06/2024 20:34

I am very similar to you- I’m 5ft 3 (and a half!) and 9 and a half stone. I think you can ignore your friend. I’m aware that I’m near the top end of the healthy BMI range for my height. It’s 23.4- but my body fat % is 18-20 so I don’t really pay any attention to my BMI. I’ve been this weight almost my whole adult life. I eat well and I exercise 12 hours a week or so, and have high muscle mass for a woman my age.

8.5 stone which your friend suggests is the optimum weight for you is in the middle of your healthy BMI range, which is presumably why your friend thinks you ‘should’ aim for that. I went through a disordered eating phase when I was in my thirties after having children, and I got down to 8.5 stone which is the lightest I have been as an adult and which didn’t suit me at all. I looked gaunt and friends asked if I was ok! So I am much healthier (and look better) at the upper end of my healthy BMI range and the same might be the case for you. At any rate, you are in the healthy range, and have done brilliantly with your weight loss. Hopefully you feel good too. Well done!

JustWannaBeWorthIt · 02/06/2024 20:35

I'm 5'4' and 11,10.

At my biggest I was just shy of 16 stone though so although I'm still overweight I feel fucking smoking in comparison 😁

Would like to be 10 stone something in my adult life though.

Comingupriver · 02/06/2024 20:35

I think asking dress size is important here too. I’m 5ft 5 and 10.5 stone but a size 8. My BMI is misleading.

Username83058265 · 02/06/2024 20:24

I'm the same as you and thought that was a healthy BMI, albeit at the upper limit

Well I actually thought it was 11 stone 2lbs!!! Then when I found it was a stone lighter, I got a massive shock!

Im pretty sure thats what it said.

Uhohsummoned · 02/06/2024 20:36

5"5 13stone. I know I'm massively overweight

hopscotcher · 02/06/2024 20:37

I'm 5'3" and just under 11 stone - overweight but I'm pleased with it having lost a lot over the last 2 years. I'd like to lose another stone but nothing's budging!

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 02/06/2024 20:37

5’2” and 8 st 10. Ten years ago I was 7 st 7, but I looked too thin at that weight. I’m nearly 50 now and quite scrawny in the face, I don’t think I’d look good under 8 st 7 now.

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 02/06/2024 20:37

4 foot 10 and 8 stone 5. So I really need to get myself sorted and shift a good stone.

oberst · 02/06/2024 20:37

5ft 2 7st 8

MsLuxLisbon · 02/06/2024 20:37

I'm five eight and I am about eight and a half stone.

Ilovemycatalot · 02/06/2024 20:39

@oberst that’s underweight for your height?

OP posts:
DaemonMoon · 02/06/2024 20:40

4 foot 10 and 7 stone 7.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 02/06/2024 20:41

LessOfMe99 · 02/06/2024 20:29

@GrinAndBeerIt Are you ok? That is an extremely low weight - considerably underweight. Hoping everything is ok with you x

She's 4'11", so whilst it's at the lower end of the weight range, she's not 'considerably underweight', and it may be perfect for her body.

oberst · 02/06/2024 20:42

Ilovemycatalot · 02/06/2024 20:39

@oberst that’s underweight for your height?

I think it's lower end of 'healthy weight' on the NHS BMI?

Maising · 02/06/2024 20:42

5ft 10in 9st4lb

I've just lost a stone but happiest like this, I am quite toned, so don't look thin.

PrincessTeaSet · 02/06/2024 20:44

Ilovemycatalot · 02/06/2024 20:33

Despite weight loss still can’t get into anything smaller than a 12 .

Sizes depends on bone structure as much as weight. My.mum is underweight at 7.5 stone and 5 ft6. Still in size 12 or even 14 and that's M and S vanity sizing. I'm shorter and weigh 10 stone and fit in m and S size 10 (admittedly size 14 from h and m!).

At your weight I would shift the focus to toning up rather than further weight loss.

Babbababoon · 02/06/2024 20:44

Almost 6ft (182cm) and 57kg, which I think is 9 stone. Around 62kg is better for me but I shrivel up post partum and will likely go back to normal when mat leave finishes.

Dollydoo15 · 02/06/2024 20:45

5ft3 currently 8st 11lbs, size 8-10. Ideally want to get to 8st7. I carry my weight around my stomach which is still quite flabby, although looks fine whilst wearing clothes

toomanytonotice · 02/06/2024 20:45

I’m 5’4. My “normal” weight is about 9.5 st.

as a teen I got to 8 st 4. But it took very disordered eating 800 cals a day, lots of exercise. All day everyday thinking about food, calculating calories. I struggled to go below that, it took a lot of effort to maintain that low weight.

8st 4 may be within “normal” , but if you end up in the realms or an eating disorder it is not healthy.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 02/06/2024 20:47

I do think it depends on your frame and age. I'm 5ft 4" and weigh 9st 7lbs but look and feel better at 9st 4 or a bit less. I'm a size 10/12
I have a small frame and was 8st 4 for most of my adult life but as an older woman I can't maintain that and I think I wouldn't look good at that weight. You've done brilliantly and if you're happy ignore your friend.

Petrine · 02/06/2024 20:48

I’m 5’ 2” and weigh 8 st 7 lb

Femalefootyfan · 02/06/2024 20:48

5’0” and about 8 stone 4lbs. Two years ago I was almost 11 stone with an unhealthy BMI, I did go down to 7 stone 12lbs last August but I felt I was looking too thin. I’m ok with my current weight but would like to be 8 stone. Size wise I was in a small 14, now in an 8 with a much healthier BMI. I turned 60 recently and I’m healthier and fitter now than I was in my 40’s.
