What radio station do you listen to ?

MsClittirati · 02/06/2024 08:16

I feel a bit lost as can’t find a decent radio station to listen to any more.

Love R4 but finding it quite repetitive and dull and often hate the too long plays.

I am too old for R1.

R2 seems to have awful presenters now.

I miss Graham Norton at the weekends.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent station with good mix of music and talk ?

6 Music
Radio Scotland
Absolute 80s
Absolute 90s
Radio 2

All at set times of the day/week when I’m at home (I wfh). But in the car anything goes and I channel hop like mad!

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/06/2024 23:32

3, 4 and LBC.

ninetieseyebrows · 02/06/2024 23:38

Radio London for Salma El Wardany and Robert Elms mainly, I really wish Jo Goode was back for the afternoons (she does the late night show now, so I sometimes listen to the replay on BBC sounds). It was perfect before they changed presenters and timings around.
Radio 4
Absolute 90s

Six music

Yes 🙌🏻 bbc radio 6 music for me too. Mixed in with a bit of radio one dance 👌🏽

endofagain · 02/06/2024 23:45

LBC - selectively. Some presenters I like, some I can't bear and have to turn off. (For music I ask Alexa to play stuff I like). I used to listen to Radio 4 all the time, but these days I am disenchanted with the BBC. Sometimes find a podcast for a change.

PassingStranger · 02/06/2024 23:53

I love local radio.but the BBC vandalised it and gor rid of local good presenters, merged stations and took away local radio at the weekend.

They don't understand local radio and haven't listened to presenters, listeners and not even MPs.
It's terrible
I'm not really listening to much anymore.

ageratum1 · 02/06/2024 23:55

LBC or Talk Radio or GBNews

JockTamsonsBairns · 03/06/2024 00:00

I spend a lot of my working life in the car, and I listen to LBC almost exclusively throughout the day.
I love James O'Brien and Sheila Fogharty, and enjoy Ben Kentish and Tom Swarbrick.
I listen to Nick Ferrari and Iain Dale through gritted teeth, but I think it's good to hear a balance.

On a Friday at 5pm, I'll switch over to Simon Mayo "All Request Friday", as it's a bit of light entertainment.

In the evening at home, I'll often listen to Classic FM, but just as a bit of light background music if I'm pottering around the kitchen.

I haven't listened to Times Radio before, or fip Radio, so I'll be looking these up!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/06/2024 00:15

I put BBC 6 Music on in the kitchen as soon as I get up, switch it off at bedtime. Our cat is an indie kit and enjoys it while we’re at work. I subscribe to Shaun Keaveney’s Patreon too, and miss him on the radio so much.

Nation Radio South

LBC - primarily James O'Brien, Tom Swarbrick, Ben Kentish. If I'm feeling masochistic I'll listen to Nick Ferrari for, oh, a few seconds!

When do they come on? seems endless news whenever I tune in.

You are probably tuned in to LBC news, not LBC. There are 2 options.

Nugg · 03/06/2024 03:24

Radio X

TootsyPants · 03/06/2024 05:06

Original 106 Gold from Aberdeen, zero chat, minimal ads and only 60s, 70s & 80's music.
I can't listen to inane chat and ads.

Husband listens to BFBS 2 or Five Live.

MsJuniper · 03/06/2024 06:58

Another too-old Radio 1 listener here. Greg James is so good at his job has a real passion for radio. Vick Hope has the most beautiful voice.

I sometimes switch over to R2 or 6M but the music is too old. I heard Romesh on Saturday and enjoyed him.

Mxflamingnoravera · 03/06/2024 07:12

Six music and R4, switch between the two.

ThePoshUns · 03/06/2024 07:15

Times radio for news
Absolute radio for music

MarsdenRockCrumbled · 03/06/2024 08:08

Boom Radio, but only for so long as it can become repetitive.

Boom Rock, so many songs played I have not heard for ages.

Bit of Classic FM now and then.

Tried with Planet Rock but found the adverts more than irritating, and do tend to play same bands over and over and over.

Used to love R2, but not anymore....

Goingasteady30 · 03/06/2024 08:18

BBC 6Music usually but also sometimes Capital Chill and Kisstory

I listen through the app on my phone and it offers an option to select LBC news. I suppose you could look on the website for more information. I have never listened to the LBC news option, just the talk shows. I will see if I can find a link.

Irridescantshimmmer · 03/06/2024 15:57

Smooth radio, Smooth chill and classic FM.

I switch it off for a few minutes once an hour whilst it's playing the news. I read the news online once a day which is enough!
