What radio station do you listen to ?

I feel a bit lost as can’t find a decent radio station to listen to any more.

Love R4 but finding it quite repetitive and dull and often hate the too long plays.

I am too old for R1.

R2 seems to have awful presenters now.

I miss Graham Norton at the weekends.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent station with good mix of music and talk ?

Usually Virgin, kisstory with a bit of R4 on the way to work. Sadly Graham recently left Virgin at the weekends. It’s Angela Scanlon now so another lovely Irish lilt to listen to!

it depends, i have a new car, to me, and now i can listen to cd's and dont have to have Rylan and his mother or whoever else is on radio 2
in the morning i am radio 4 unless i get annoyed and its radio 2 and vice versa.
in the mornings i have radio 2 on the radio and radio 4 on the laptop, so background music and speaking all at the same time

Six and 4. Four gets annoying with the plays, Thought for the day - annoying but funny how the many ways everything is "just like Jesus", The Arches reminds me of being pregnant and feeling awful, Six is good but Iggy Pop annoys the bejesus out of me - we then go to Spotify.

I rarely listen to radio now. If I'm the car or at home at the right time I may pop GHR on for pop master but aside from that I don't bother anymore.

Cordell · 02/06/2024 09:19

I only listen to absolute 90s radio - plays 90s indie music. Very nostalgic!

Enko · 02/06/2024 09:20

Classic fm

Occasionally Magic radio

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 02/06/2024 09:20

1Xtra during the week

KnickerlessParsons · 02/06/2024 09:20

Radio 4 Extra is good

LilyJessie · 02/06/2024 09:21

Honestly, Magic FM was brilliant the other day at work!!
I also like Absolute!

Ellemeg82 · 02/06/2024 09:21

I like absolute radio. Plays a good mix of music. They do have individual decades stations for music from the 80s/90s/00s etc but I generally listen to the main station which plays a good mix of music I like without too much talk/waffle. Only tend to listen to radio in the car.

Maddy70 · 02/06/2024 09:22

Radio x

LoreleiG · 02/06/2024 09:23

Usually have on Radio 2 or Greatest Hits, or Radio 4. I am not a huge fan of weekend radio but listened to Romesh Ranganathan for the first time yesterday and he was hilarious.

JacksonAverysEyes · 02/06/2024 09:24

If you used to like Radio 2 before their recent cull and influx of crap presenters, you should really go to Greatest Hits with Ken Brice, Simon Mayo etc.

mumu54 · 02/06/2024 09:24

Radio 5 Live and Local BBC station

LaPalmaLlama · 02/06/2024 09:24

Virgin breakfast show and then toggle between that and Magic in the car.

i miss Rachel on the Virgin breakfast show though- somehow the banter isn’t as good with just Chris and Vasos. I feel like they are semi auditioning a few of the existing team but I think they probably just need to get someone fresh ( and definitely NOT Jayne Middlemiss blahing on about energy and power constantly)

Radio presenting does seem to be a bit of a dying art. There are v few good ones. Liked GN but can understand why he probably wants his weekends back.

Halfemptyhalfling · 02/06/2024 09:25

Use BBC sounds app so I can choose the radio 4 programmes I listen to.
Occasionally listen to world service podcasts which are good for an international perspective, before using sounds occasionally listened to five live and radio 4 extra

It's not the same, the playlists are so repetitive.

Halfemptyhalfling · 02/06/2024 09:29

Still refusing to listen to times radio as it is funded by Rupert Murdoch who has destroyed so much that was good in the UK via getting his newspapers to support Brexit.

Yirk · 02/06/2024 09:29

Between radio 2 and greatest hits depending on the presenter!

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 02/06/2024 09:30

Absolute 80s, Smooth, Smooth Chill, Planet Rock, Classic FM. Depends on mood and I tend to flick around to avoid chat as I only want music.

sanityisamyth · 02/06/2024 09:31

Radio 2

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/06/2024 09:34

Radio 4 first thing in the morning, 6 Music during the day and at weekends, 4 extra when cooking and in bed. Resonance radio for interesting local and community stuff

There are also a lot of good internet stations I like Worldwide FM.

EasternStandard · 02/06/2024 09:34

Radio 6 music
Radio 4
Times Radio
LBC

They all have something that makes me switch, including the stuff I like

When they all fail I go to Alexa play something

lljkk · 02/06/2024 09:38

Ha! I either want music or talk. I dislike banal or provocative or hyperactive nattering DJs delaying good music, irk.

BBC Radio6 is best mix of talk & music. The music can be weird (or very brilliant), but the talk is usually informative and is actually about the music (Craig Charles exception).

Dotun A.... who does the graveyard (1am-5am) shift on on BBC R5Live does a nice mix of mostly chat & some music. If you want to listen on CatchUp.
