What radio station do you listen to ?

I feel a bit lost as can’t find a decent radio station to listen to any more.

Love R4 but finding it quite repetitive and dull and often hate the too long plays.

I am too old for R1.

R2 seems to have awful presenters now.

I miss Graham Norton at the weekends.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent station with good mix of music and talk ?

Usually have on Radio 2 or Greatest Hits, or Radio 4. I am not a huge fan of weekend radio but listened to Romesh Ranganathan for the first time yesterday and he was hilarious.

i must try romesh.
i enjoy listening to Liza Tarbuck when i am travelling, as i was yesterday.

6 Music (all weekend but not much in the week) and Radio 4 to see how they are misreporting the news and for shows like I'm sorry 😞 haven't a clue and some other comedies, and Desert Island Discs. Download TuneIn Radio app. It's got hundreds of stations from all over the world.

Ha! I either want music or talk. I dislike banal or provocative or hyperactive nattering DJs delaying good music, irk.

BBC Radio6 is best mix of talk & music. The music can be weird (or very brilliant), but the talk is usually informative and is actually about the music (Craig Charles exception).

Dotun A.... who does the graveyard (1am-5am) shift on on BBC R5Live does a nice mix of mostly chat & some music. If you want to listen on CatchUp.

Oi! Don't knock Craig Charles! He does talk about the music in his weekend shows (although I concede he does a fair amount of 'shout-outs)..

Virgin radio …. mornings and drive time home. I love Chris Evans … good vibe and music

radio 4 ….. through the day

Danceswithweasels · 02/06/2024 09:59

It used to be Radio 2 all the time until a couple of years ago. Now it is Radio 5 or radio 4 to go to sleep and wake up to. Weekdays morning it's now silence as I cannot find anything BBC I like and cannot stand ads.I listen to R2 Sara Cox and a bit of Jo early evening then Radio 2 all day at the weekend although not looking forward to Paddy McG's debut this morning as hated him filling in for Rylan (loved Sally Traffic's disdain for him)

Mirandasbiggestfan · 02/06/2024 10:00

I listen to radio 3 at home in the mornings & enjoy the jazz on a Saturday afternoon. In the car I listen to radio 1 which I actually really enjoy, particularly Ricky, Melvin & Charlie.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 02/06/2024 10:08

I like Simon Mayo's album show on Greatest Hits on Sunday afternoons - he plays more unusual stuff

ASighMadeOfStone · 02/06/2024 10:11

Radio 2, but only until Vernon finishes, and not when Gaby Roslin stands in for Zoe Ball.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 02/06/2024 10:13

Classic FM with occasional forays into Radio 3 and even less occasional forays into Radio 4.

onlyconnect · 02/06/2024 10:16

Times Radio is OK. I put it on to get away from the plays on R4. It's almost all news based but some interesting discussions

mrsDracoMalfoy · 02/06/2024 10:19

I used to listen to heart (who remembers 2-ten fm)
Now I listen to Radio 1. Matt and Molly are my favourite.

StateOHer · 02/06/2024 10:20

I still listen to a lot of radio.

Flip between Absolute 90s, Kisstory, Capital Xtra, 1Xtra, R2, Classic FM, Mi-Soul, HipHop Lounge (both on tune-in), and various London pirate stations for house and reggae music.

I can’t stand talk radio. I can barely deal with podcasts. Just music, please!

SiriAlexa · 02/06/2024 10:21

Virgin Radio with the kids in the car, then LBC or Times Radio for talk. Very occasionally BBC Radio 4 but I find the presenters / content can be patronising. I’m definitely too old for Radio 1 music but find Radio 2 waaay too old for me, so the BBC doesn’t cater for me at all.

SellFridges · 02/06/2024 10:21

I can’t stand commercial radio. The adverts do my head in.

I listen almost exclusively to Radio 1, despite being about 20 years too old for the demographic. I dabble with 6 Music although I think it sometimes takes itself a bit too seriously, and might listen to 5 Live for sport.

I do think there’s a BBC gap for those of us who don’t want very MOR or old music. I like Radio 1 because the music is always current and they support a lot of young artists. Radio 2 is a nostalgia trip for my mum, although I do think they have excellent broadcasters in Zoe Ball and Sarah Cox.

Don't bother with the radio. Get Spotify if you've not got it already and listen to books being read or podcasts. I'm currently listening to two, Bob Mortimer reading his autobiography and Chris van Tulleken reading his book about UPF. You can then listen to chunks at a time and it makes doing tedious household stuff go by more quickly.

FIP RADIO is my go to station!

Fabulous Paris based radio station that has a big following in Brighton and London.

FIP – Écouter la radio en direct et les radios thématiques (radiofrance.fr)

Cool Audio Thing Of The Week: FIP, France’s Hippest Public Radio Station | by Volume | TuneIn Volume | Medium

And then BBC Radio 6 especially CERYS MATTHEWS, THE CRAIG CHARLES FUNK & SOUL SHOW, GUY GARVEY's FINEST HOUR, GILLES PETERSEN, RADCLIFFE & MACONIE, AMY LAME, IGGY POP. LAUREN LAVERNE ...

And BBC Radio 4 : BEING ROMAN, DESERT ISLAND DISCS, PROFILE, LAST WORD, MICHAEL MOSLEY, WOMAN's HOUR, FRONT ROW, SOUL MUSIC ...

Will also dip in to BBC Radio 3 in the early mornings and their Jazz slot too.

And occasionally LIZA TARBUCK on BBC Radio 2.

BBC Sounds Podcasts and increasingly more Podcasts on Spotify.

I do love radio!

I station hop through the day, I have Radio Essex, GHR, Smooth, heart 90s&00s.

MissMuffetisin · 02/06/2024 11:08

Weekdays. - Greg James ( Radio one) Ken Bruce ( greatest hits ) Craig Charles ( six music) Simon Mayo ( greatest hits ) . Weekends used to be Graham Norton, I’m floundering currently - Simon Mayo’s album show is ok , and sounds of the seventies with Johnny Walker ( giving my age away) , and Ramesh Ranganathen on R2 seems like it could be good, but I’m missing Graham .

sp1ders · 02/06/2024 11:26

Times Radio, apart from when Giles Coren is on because I then feel like jumping out of a window.

Radio 3 until they play some sort of dreadful discordant cacophony.

Radio 4 until a play or some sort of woke rubbish comes on.

StasisMom · 02/06/2024 11:35

Radio 2 (not on Sundays as don't like the schedule) and Absolute 90s.

longtompot · 02/06/2024 11:50

6Music, though I am getting a bit fed up with some of the more Radio 1 type of music being played more and more, but I don't think there's another station I'd like.
