What radio station do you listen to ?

I feel a bit lost as can’t find a decent radio station to listen to any more.

Love R4 but finding it quite repetitive and dull and often hate the too long plays.

I am too old for R1.

R2 seems to have awful presenters now.

I miss Graham Norton at the weekends.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent station with good mix of music and talk ?

Out of habit Radio 2 is on all day while we work from home. If we are home on Sundays I can't listen to it from lunchtime onwards as I really dislike the programmes/presenters. From that time onwards. Loving Romesh on Saturday instead of Claudia though.

TheFutureIs · 02/06/2024 18:04

Radio 1 most of the time (even if I'm way too old for their demographic) and 1 Xtra on a Sunday.
Usually make my roast with David Rodigan in the background with a Bloody Mary in hand

FacingTheWall · 02/06/2024 18:09

Radio X or 6music

At times it used to be Radio 2 for Steve Wright lol's - sadly he is no more so no more radio 2

Frequesntly listen to LBC London, Talk Radio and Smooth Radio/London and a times Magic Radio

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 02/06/2024 18:16

I used listen to Capital in the mornings but haven't since Roman Kemp left (I actually quite liked him). Before that it was Absolute then Christian O'Connell left.

Now I'm back to Absolute in the mornings for Dave Berry and Virgin Radio Anthems in the afternoon for Eddie Temple-Morris.

I struggle because so many stations have the same songs on repeat every day.

MiSoul

WooWooWinnie · 02/06/2024 18:25

Radio 1 for breakfast, Radio 2 in the evenings, 6 music at other times (especially Cerys Matthews on a Sunday). Classic FM sometimes and Radio Paradise if I’m at home (amazing mix of folk/indie/rock from 60s onwards). Radio Africana if I’m in the car and the sun’s out - it’s a Manchester-based African music station.

PearlieQueen · 02/06/2024 18:30

Boom Radio

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/06/2024 18:34

Radio 3, Radio 4 and Absolute Radio

Iamblossom · 02/06/2024 18:37

Heart Dance.

Virgin Radio on weekday mornings for Chris Evans is my only certain now - I get that he’s a bit Marmite (I love him), but by God he is good and the music he plays suits me well. Everyone else just seems to blather on to hear their own voice and remind me of how slick Chris is.

(Nick Grimshaw covering this week while he was on holiday, I didn’t make it past the first hour before the radio went off. Different music when there are other presenters too.)

Am very much missing Graham at the weekends, loved him.

Love Simon Mayo, but never seem to remember GHR. Usually Smooth Country in this house at non-Chris times, but much less radio in general as quality so much lower.

PangolinPan · 02/06/2024 18:42

How are people listening to greatest hits? I initially tried when Ken went to them but it was such a palaver I gave up.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 02/06/2024 19:00

Radio X - love Toby Tarrant, Moylesy and Johnny Vaughn

BayandBlonde · 02/06/2024 20:01

LBC during the day
Classic FM on a Sunday morning
Smooth Chill when I'm in the garden

Blarn · 02/06/2024 20:04

R4 and Absolute. Absolute 90s on a Sunday afternoon as I love the chart show!

MsClittirati · 02/06/2024 21:02

Wow thank you I have lots of radio stations I have never heard of to keep me busy . It’s very interesting to hear about everyone’s preferences!

i might go to Virgin for chris Evans as i did like him on radio 2,
and do go off radio 4 and not keen on the new female presenter
i always think of Chris evans when there is a key change in a song.

I used to listen to him at times when I worked, was getting ready to go to work - he only sounded good when he had a side kick if mem serves me well

Radio 4. Almost exclusively from morning shipping forecast to the national anthem unless there is a Tory mithering on the today programme.. then radio 4 extra ..

In the car - greatest hits radio for Simon mayo ..

Saturday evening whilst cooking .. the world's most fabulously eclectic DJ R2 Lisa Tarbuck .

I listen to radio 3 at home in the mornings & enjoy the jazz on a Saturday afternoon. In the car I listen to radio 1 which I actually really enjoy, particularly Ricky, Melvin & Charlie.

Very few mentions for BBC R3, which to me is the only station from the Beeb worth listening to.

Try NTS 1. Shits all over 6 Music.

Isitchill · 02/06/2024 21:24

I'm 50.
Radio 1 in the daytime.
Radio 4 first thing and evenings.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'how are we listening to GHR? But I listen via App on my phone .

Ah ok. I had the app on my phone and I had to sign in every time, loads of glitches, then it was mostly ads when it wasn't logging me off. Gave up. Which is a shame, but if they don't have a DAB station I can't really listen.
