Rain again

I know I know we have moaned about this before but can I have another moan and please can any "cosy hot chocolate" people stay away ! Just so tired of it. Had 1 nice day this week - last Saturday was sunny and a little bit warm and omg I felt so happy. It's really really getting me down. Every day since has been grey and wet. It's lashing rain again now after a very grey start. I know we have to put up with this for at least 6-8 months of the year but please it's nearly june. Am so fed up. Anyone else like to have a rant

It feels like it's just going to rain forever. We had 6 days of nice weather and that was our summer.
I'm fed up too.

AlviarinAesSedai · 30/05/2024 13:11

Agree the rain is awful. It’s also windy today, feels more like autumn.

yellowsmileyface · 30/05/2024 13:27

I'll join you in a moan because I'm feeling particularly fed up today. Have a few stressful things going on at the moment and I would love nothing more than to go for a long, relaxing, spring-time stroll with the warmth of the sun on my skin.

I always forget just how much sunny weather improves my mood and mental state until we actually get nice weather. The constant rain and wind and grey clouds really brings me down and I'm so, so very sick of it.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 30/05/2024 13:37

The rain is annoying and limits what I can do in the garden and has meant that we haven't felt like going on a day trip to the seaside this half term but we've got to make the best of it. The rain is not stopping everything and it's still possible to do stuff even if means getting a bit wet. Waiting for the sunny weather is only putting our lives on hold so we might as well carry on, but wearing a coat instead of shorts and T shirts.

Justkeepswiimming · 30/05/2024 14:06

I'm away camping this week. It's been absolutely foul. I'm desperately trying to enjoy the experience as I've been planning this trip for a year. But it's been bloody hard work frankly and last night I got absolutely soaked. Sleeping in the car tonight and then heading back to civilisation tomorrow. Its not just that it's wet, but even when it isn't wet, it's pretty damn cold. Today the weather is drier, bit there is a strong cold breeze and the temperature I'd struggling to reach 15. So with windchill it's probably about 11 or 12. Mega grim. I'm with you op.

spanieleyes22 · 30/05/2024 18:00

Oh dear so disappointing for camping. I actually haven't booked a holiday at all this year. Can't afford to go abroad and after a washout in wales last year just can't bring myself to book a staycation

It is really grim, although this time last year was also cold and wet for us. To be honest, summer doesn’t seem to get going until mid-June nowadays, but it can then stay nice-ish until October.

We do have really crappy weather in the UK- and it’s definitely getting wetter. After two lockdown summers we vowed never-ever to take our main holiday in the UK again.

I get excited about buying summer dresses and sandals every year as soon as the summer collections come out, but this year have decided I should invest in lovely knitwear, as that’s what I actually wear for nine months of the year!

67666d · 30/05/2024 18:08

I love the rain, it keeps my neighbour quiet and out of the garden at least. i was actually wishing for rain just to have some peace and quiet from the neighbour 🙄lol. i'm not much of a summer person anyway and i love any excuse for having some cosy time inside of the house.

spanieleyes22 · 30/05/2024 18:09

@67666d nothing to say to that really except good for you ! Am happy for you.

sheroku · 30/05/2024 18:10

Totally with you. I just want to sit outside in the evening and not put my bloody coat on! Just checked the forecast and it's looking a lot better over the next few days. Still not warm but at least no rain. Fingers crossed!

spanieleyes22 · 30/05/2024 18:12

@AllumerLeFeu yes so true! Am still in jeans jumper and boots. Last summer was awful too just a week or so of sun in June when my dd was doing exams! Did you know it has rained every Friday since last July. Told to me by a farmer recently. I remember the summers of 2020 and 2021 being lovely: too hot sometimes!

Have had the debate with a few people recently who are in the "there is no bad weather, only bad clothing" camp.

Nope, the weather has been fucking abysmal and no amount of rain proof clothing can make the ground dry and usual outdoor May activities doable.

We've actually been luckier where I am (London) than a lot of other UK places but its still been shit.

I don't even want it hot. Just dry would do.

Namechanges85437854 · 30/05/2024 18:29

It's definitely getting tiring now, I was banking on the kids playing in the garden a lot over half term, which has turned into to much screen time and soft play.

BellaBobbins · 30/05/2024 18:29

I'm still in jeans, jumpers, socks and slippers, I've managed to get washing dry outside three times this year, and am so thoroughly fed up with this miserable weather.

TonTonMacoute · 30/05/2024 18:35

I live in Cornwall and it's just been utterly miserable. Today it's really stormy, strong winds, rain and quite cold. I feel so sorry for people who have come down for half term!

Its the 1st June in a couple of days, I can't remember such bad weather at this time of year, my garden looks like it's March! God knows I have plenty of weatherproof clothing, I would like to be able to stop wearing it sometime between now and next winter.

SwingingVoter · 30/05/2024 18:52

Bloody miserable and all the plants I planted have been eaten by slugs so when fhe sun does shine it's just a barren wasteland.

In 2020 we had a very warm spring / summer. Heatwaves in August 2020 and I think we all remember the initial lockdown weather.

2021 saw the first ever extreme heat warning from the Met Office thanks to the heatwaves.

2022 was the fourth warmest summer on record with prolonged heatwaves in August and July. It was incredibly dry and hot.

2023 was the eighth warmest summer on record.

We have had hot summers for the last four years. We can't have them all the time.

This summer is likely to be wetter and cooler. Such is life.

blobby10 · 30/05/2024 19:16

The weather is definitely made worse by the constant references in the media to ‘April/May/June was the warmest month on record’ have they forgotten about 2020’when April and May were spectacularly sunny?!!!

GentlemanJohnny · 30/05/2024 19:20

Every so often we have "a year without a summer". 2024 is building up to be one of those.

reluctantbrit · 30/05/2024 19:22

We are in Belgium at the moment and while it is not too bad, we also had a day of downpour.

I really hoped it would be nice enough for a trip to the seaside as well.

I really hope it will improve, my mood definitely is better when it's warmer and the sun is out.

2023 was also one of those. Constant rain since mid-June and it hasn't really stopped since then. My mental health can honestly not deal with another year without sunshine.

ControlShiftDelete · 30/05/2024 19:27

Yes last summer was like that until we had an Indian summer in September! It's ridiculous though, it's rained for months and months.

Flickersy · 30/05/2024 19:28

2023 was the eighth warmest summer on record. Eight. Out of about 140.

It was wetter than average but certainly not "a year without a summer".

TokyoSushi · 30/05/2024 19:28

I was just having a big rant to DH about this, it's utterly rubbish, and has been since last July. There's been a few nice days but it's like a perpetual autumn, it wasn't even a proper winter. It's just dull, and damp, and slightly chilly, all the time. And still 12 weeks until we go on holiday, ugh.

Guiltyaboutwork · 30/05/2024 19:28

Yes light and particularly sun shine helps me feel so much better. also know the extremes of heat some years and floods is sign of climate change. I feel miserable and going to put the heating on for a short while (thus contributing to the problem myself as gas boiler, but I already have the jumper on.)
