Hornchurch: Woman dies in XL bully attack at home www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-69041493

She was the owner and sounds like she had a couple of them. They were registered but clearly that doesn't and didn't stop this preventable death.

Most XL Bullies that have killed are a genetic link to a stud called Killer Kimbo. Killer Kimbo was a result of a sibling mating, and throws the sudden rage gene desired by the fighting community that these dogs were bred for. Owners need to check through breeding lines ro make sure their dog isn't from this line. The sudden rage gene is what makes then dangerous, as it mean that your beloved dog can switch without provocation, and I've seen this happen first hand.
And to be cold, as least it was her that was killed by her dogs, not an outsider, which means the legislation is working.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 21/05/2024 07:14

I've never heard that before, is there any evidence of that?

EmilyBronte82 · 21/05/2024 07:15

Half of XL bully dogs are descended from Killer Kimbo. You just can’t be sure. Such a sad situation.

Pootlepins · 21/05/2024 07:16

I don’t know how this is still happening. It’s absolutely horrific. Dogs are killing humans and yet there still isn’t enough of an outcry. The current law isn’t enough, they are far too an unpredictable breed to control and they should all be euthanised because this isn’t going away.

fieldsofbutterflies · 21/05/2024 07:17

There is evidence - you just need to google the dog and his history. It's terrifying how much he was bred and what his sperm was sold for.

Unfortunately most of the media sources are DailyMail types.

Cadela · 21/05/2024 07:17

God that poor woman. I can’t imagine how horrific her last moments must have been.

I wish they’d just destroy every last one of them. XLs are still being sold all over gumtree, named ‘pocket bullies’ or American bulldogs but it’s clear what they are. These dogs have no purpose and they need to die out.

MonsteraMama · 21/05/2024 07:17

Well.. I hate to say it but that's the risk you take if you insist on owning a banned breed. It's sad that she's dead but honestly better her than some random child or innocent passerby.

LittleRedY0shi · 21/05/2024 07:18

The owners of these dogs all believe that theirs is different. Theirs is gentle, theirs is better trained, theirs is safe. How many need to be proven wrong before they wake up to the dangers?

BrutusMcDogface · 21/05/2024 07:19

Omg. It’s scary that not even the owner was safe from these horrible dogs.

hollyblueivy · 21/05/2024 07:21

Hopefully a few more owners will think twice about their decision now.

Absolutely. I have heard my friend say this about her animal more than once even after it had bitten her daughter (was daughters fault apparently?!) wasn’t even a bully breed. Dogs are unpredictable creatures and can cause so much damage. As much as I love them, stronger laws are needed.

Precisely my thoughts.
Anyone owning one of these hideous banned breeds is taking that risk. It’s their choice.

bluegreenlilac · 21/05/2024 07:26

I don’t care who they’re descended from: they have no place around humans and other animals.

Devilshands · 21/05/2024 07:28

hollyblueivy · 21/05/2024 07:21

They won’t though, cos their dogs are ‘really friendly’ and ‘misunderstood’

Until the breed naturally die out or all their owners are dead this will keep happening

Well, exactly.

It's still not a popular view to hold though. I work with dogs and I find anyone who expresses a negative view of XL's in that community still gets criticised for being judgmental about the breed.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 21/05/2024 07:31

Thank you, I will read later.

Patchworksack · 21/05/2024 07:31

The conditions attached to exemption won’t prevent attacks in the home, and nobody is enforcing it anyway. There were far fewer dogs exempted than are thought to be wandering the streets and nobody is checking papers, challenging unmuzzled ‘type’ dogs or cracking down on selling them as ‘pocket bullies’ that grow suspiciously tall.

YellowHairband · 21/05/2024 07:33

hollyblueivy · 21/05/2024 07:21

They won't.

What I really don't understand about the law is that it obviously recognises the dangers posed, and so requires them to be on leads outside the home. But inside the home obviously they don't have to be, and yet they can still be kept in homes with children. How can you say "the dangers are such that out and about the dogs need to be kept on a lead, but also it's absolutely fine to own one of these while you have children living in the house".

Would there be any mileage in taking DNA from all the dogs that have actually attacked and looking to find the specific genetic combination and using that as part of the banned criteria?.

PurpleBugz · 21/05/2024 07:52

Maybe they need to look at how the breeding industry works. When I bought my cockerpoo the breeder told me if I ever want her to have puppies check their pedigree as her father was a very common stud poodle. Maybe there should be limits on how many litters a stud can sire before we ruin more dog breeds with inbreeding

Willmafrockfit · 21/05/2024 07:54

such an awful thing to happen

Shade17 · 21/05/2024 07:59

Obviously an awful thing to happen but at least it wasn’t an innocent stranger. If you’re stupid enough to own one of these you have to accept the risk that it might kill you.

Would it be any different if it wasn't the "daily mail type"?
