Hornchurch: Woman dies in XL bully attack at home www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-69041493

She was the owner and sounds like she had a couple of them. They were registered but clearly that doesn't and didn't stop this preventable death.

They all need to be destroyed.

Im sick of seeing daft dog trainers on TV talking oh so reasonably about how if they all get destroyed, then another breed will take their place as the “must have” for lowlife scumbags. That may be true but surely we cross that bridge when we come to
it.

People are being killed NOW.

Ciderlout · 21/05/2024 08:16

The worst thing is, that it’s almost guaranteed that owners of these monsters will see this attack as an issue with those two particular dogs. They’ll continue the narrative “My Buttons wouldn’t harm a fly” 🙄

Cadela · 21/05/2024 07:17

God that poor woman. I can’t imagine how horrific her last moments must have been.

I wish they’d just destroy every last one of them. XLs are still being sold all over gumtree, named ‘pocket bullies’ or American bulldogs but it’s clear what they are. These dogs have no purpose and they need to die out.

Author of her own misfortune.

Too many idiots think their dog is a harmless gentle fur baby.

The law is an ass, XL dogs should all be destroyed, an owner killed now, tomo the children of the owner.

I did think this would happen & we are continuing to put Police, Paramedics and members of the public at risk too, shameful this is allowed to continue.

BoobyDazzler · 21/05/2024 08:17

At least they killed their idiot owner and not some innocent neighbour/child/visitor.

Hideous way to die but if you play with fire…

fieldsofbutterflies · 21/05/2024 07:30

Well, exactly.

It's still not a popular view to hold though. I work with dogs and I find anyone who expresses a negative view of XL's in that community still gets criticised for being judgmental about the breed.

Pretty sure they were banned for a reason so these people you are working with must be a bit thick to deny a problem with the breed! I think this is natural selection working at its finest and Darwin would be proud. These people CHOSE to own a dangerous dog which could rip them apart any moment? Then they shouldn't be too surprised when they experience the business end of those teeth when 'fluffy' flips out. As long as it isn't an innocent man woman or child losing their life or being horrifically injured then I have little sympathy if the idiot owner gets it. Harsh but true. The beasts should be in a muzzle unless in a cage, they are dangerous animals not pets.

JJathome · 21/05/2024 08:22

I feel very sad about this, and it’s very clear we will see more of it, where owners or family members are killed, the ban simply protects the public, when the owners adhere, but the owners still have them unmuzzled at home.and they can be the most gentle and loving for years and then turn, and it’s fatal when they do.

so many foolish people, living with the sword of damacles dangling over their heads and they don’t even know it.

they try to argue it’s nurture not nature, but the bloodline of these dogs is undeniable, nature always wins out. You can’t train out the inbreeding. The smiling assassin in their own homes.

Misthios · 21/05/2024 08:23

They all need putting down. There is no good reason to own one of these beasts never mind two.

ChampagneGold · 21/05/2024 08:26

And because we live in such a weak, ineffective country, the dogs probably won't be destroyed. They were 'removed' from the site apparently. Why not shoot them ffs and be done with it? No doubt some do gooder rescue will try and rehabilitate them.

Also, I read there are 3 (probably rough arse women) currently campaigning for the law banning them to be overturned.

There should never have been an amnesty on these things. They should have been culled on mass.

absolutely

LittleRedY0shi · 21/05/2024 07:18

The owners of these dogs all believe that theirs is different. Theirs is gentle, theirs is better trained, theirs is safe. How many need to be proven wrong before they wake up to the dangers?

No not all.

I had a client who begged the police to take her dog because she knew it was dangerous and she had a toddler and new born in the house and they wouldn’t help her. It took months of contacting charities etc until the money was raised to get it to the vet to be pts.

Willmafrockfit · 21/05/2024 08:31

the woman did not deserve to die, she was a woman in her 50s , in the family home.
just devastating for the family

Yep. Like with pitbulls - “LuV Mi GaWjUsS LiL pIbBle itS aLl iN hOw u rAiSe tHeM”

Standingupstandingout · 21/05/2024 08:32

There's one that must live near me as I've seen it a few times now. It is dog reactive so when it sees my dog it goes absolutely ballistic. The woman walking it is slim and I do worry that her weight/strength isn't enough to anchor it while it's trying to get to my dog. To make it worse, the woman carries its muzzle in her hand. Not much good if it's not wearing the bloody thing.

BlusteryLake · 21/05/2024 08:33

If you choose to keep a dog known for killing people in your home, it shouldn't be a massive surprise when it kills you.

No she didn't but at the same time her choices led to it. It's the same thing with these strange people who keep tigers or other exotic creatures as pets. Would it be their fault if their pet tiger killed them? Yes, it would because it's a dangerous creature known to kill. Which XL bullies have now done too many times.

Sorry, but she shouldn’t t have had the dog in the first place if she couldn’t afford vet bills.

CocoapuffPuff · 21/05/2024 08:38

I'm horrified for her, and her family, but honestly, if these beasts were going to kill anyone, I'd rather it was the owner than anyone else.
They all need shooting. We should wipe this breed out.

Sarah2891 · 21/05/2024 08:40

I absolutely love dogs but I do think XL Bullys need to be banned completely (put down) They are way too dangerous. It makes me angry that so many people die from being attacked by them.

Longdueachange · 21/05/2024 08:41

OddBoots · 21/05/2024 07:38

Would there be any mileage in taking DNA from all the dogs that have actually attacked and looking to find the specific genetic combination and using that as part of the banned criteria?.

Probably. I know if i owned one, then i would be testing if possible.
Pit Bulls, which is what XLs, Pocket Bullys and American Bullys evolved from, have always been illegal. It was just that the law was slow to keep up with the use of AI from imported semen. Bully AI shop fronts popped up everywhere, and pups from imported semen were selling for £10k+. Whilst imported dogs are subject to APHA checks at port, semen sent by DHL slipped too easily through the net.

fieldsofbutterflies · 21/05/2024 08:44

@Namechangey23 they're not people I work with as such (thankfully!), just people in the same field as me.

The whole "deed not breed" thing is a real issue still - some people aren't interested in the fact that a bite from an XL can kill whereas a bite from, say, a chihuahua can't - they just go on about about a bite being a bite.

Now of course no dog should be biting anyone but no sane person would rather fight off an XL Bully 😂

Of course she didn't deserve to die but if you choose to share your home with a dangerous banned breed then, well, that's the risk you take.

At least it didn't kill an innocent bystander this time.

Given that armed officers attended, I think they would have shot them if needed. You might want to think that police aren’t robots, they I am sure would rather get the dogs out and have them put to sleep by a vet than shoot them just because they are that type of dog. You are armed as a deterrent. There’s a review quite rightly if a firearm is discharged.

Please take photos and report her - she is breaking the terms of owning a banned dog and will have it taken off her.

I would report her every single day. If that dog gets loose, your dog will be curtains.

Deadringer · 21/05/2024 08:48

They should all be put down. Can that fucker who sold all those descendants of killer Kimbo not be held to account, and every other breeder who is knowingly profiting from the sale of these dogs.
