No one believes me when I say I hate the summer.

Just wondering if anyone else feels this way or if I really am a minority.

From now until late October I will feel quite low. Wherever I go I can hear happiness and laughter, even at home I can hear children playing and bbqs taking place. I just don't want to be part of it all.

I feel pressured to enjoy it. My dc want to be out all the time. When I just want to be at home.

There's so much I dislike about the warmer months but can't list it all. I just want the winter to come.

OP posts:

and you come alive in the winter months?

are you overweight?

greenbeansrock · 19/05/2024 16:01

but not your children presumably

greenbeansrock · 19/05/2024 16:02

why would no one believe you unless you are an incredible actress

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 19/05/2024 16:02

I’m the same.

The heat and light really affect me. I think I’m a mole at heart.

SherlockHomies · 19/05/2024 16:02

Loads of MNetters moan about the Summer, you're not alone here.

Curious to know when you and your kids do get out and about though?

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/05/2024 16:03

DD is the same. We don't tan, in fact very strong sun makes us feel almost allergic. We are red-faced sweaters which is horrible. And DD loves baggy hoodies and similar.

And no @greenbeansrock she's skinny as a rake so it's not that.

wtf does her weight have to do with it?

Snowpaw · 19/05/2024 16:05

What specifically is it that you don't like? I can get things like...disliking being in direct bright sunlight if you have fair skin etc (as I am) but there are ways around it. I absolutely love sitting in the garden first thing in the morning on a hot day with a cup of coffee. I stay in the shade or indoors for the brightest part of the day, but I love going for a walk after my evening meal on a hot day.

really?

🙄

you don’t think that someone very overweight may find summer heat particularly uncomfortable

There are absolutely loads of threads every year where overweight MNetters say they are suffering with the heat.

Same here. It’s awful. I avoid the sun and heat.

DappledThings · 19/05/2024 16:09

I don't feel pressure to enjoy it. But I do find it more stressful than enjoyable. I hate having to think about suncream and hats for DC, hate being hot especially at night. Hate trying to get DC to sleep when it's still bright sunshine.

The light mornings and nights make me tense and irritable.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 19/05/2024 16:09

It could be seasonal affect disorder. It mainly affects people in the winter but it can affect some people in the summer, feeling depressed almost. I know a few people who say they don't like the hot summer months, why wouldn't people believe you?

therealcookiemonster · 19/05/2024 16:11

@ItsADiamond and how do you feel about garlic, holy water and mirrors?

spicysamosahotcupoftea · 19/05/2024 16:11

@greenbeansrock @AnnieBuddyHere

She says nothing about the heat bothering her.

Read the OP.

Gingernaut · 19/05/2024 16:12

Allergic asthmatic, hyperhidrosis and ginger

I fucking hate it all

Pollen, pollution, barbeque smoke, insects, sunshine and heat

I read the OP (albeit differently to you perhaps) where the OP mentions the 'warmer' Summer months.

MagnetCarHair · 19/05/2024 16:14

I don't mind the heat but I'm definitely a shade walker.

But I get the feeling you are saying that the better weather makes you feel like you are expected to raise your sociability in line with others and you would rather not? Is that right?

Things do get busier and nosier on the summer months but if you get out and about earlier in the day with your kids then you avoid the worst of it.

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 19/05/2024 16:14

I hate it

kitsuneghost · 19/05/2024 16:15

spicysamosahotcupoftea · 19/05/2024 16:05

Because being fat makes summer even worse. Perpetually hot, sweaty and being body conscious even if you find summer clothes to fit.

JamSandle · 19/05/2024 16:15

If I'm going through shit summer can be harder because it's supposed to be a joyful time. But when life is good I love spring and summer.

Ponderingwindow · 19/05/2024 16:16

You aren’t alone.

im incredibly pale and burn very easily. The higher UV days are awful for me. Even a couple of minutes outside can mean a sunburn.

I hate the heat and am prone to getting heat induced hives.

I’ve been this way since childhood. My body just was not built for any kind of heat or sunlight.

I’ve been walking around grumpy for weeks now because it’s so miserable outside and we haven’t even hit peak summer yet.
