Surprised no one has said caesar salad so far.

Are they out of fashion?

Probably my personal favourite.

The very one @Frazzledmumclub, eggs & scallions 😋

I usually ask people to bring bread or a side that is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free etc or just their favouite

I would worry about cross-contamination or getting the wrong type so it works best for our lot that we prepare at least some things in separate kitchens

And then we all know we have at least one dish we love on the menu too

ETA OP name - forgot it’s not obvious who I’m replying to!

Tomato mozzarella
Potato salad

(Mainly because they are easy to make 🤣)

My favourite salad is Fattoush

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/05/2024 12:22

Potato salad but with salad dressing not mayo. It’s delicious.

Home baked quiches with either ham and cheese or tomato and cheese.

Spinach and ricotta lasagne which is a faff to make but lovely.

Chocolate and banana loaf cake.

Probably add vodka jellies for adults too.

A very light-feeling (but probably not actually that light!) salad from my home country that is perfect for BBQs, the perfect mix of sweet and savoury.

It contains leeks, celery, apples, pineapple, ham, egg, sweetcorn, creme fraiche and single cream and you need to make it at least a day in advance for the flavours to mix properly, but it's always incredibly well-received.

I need this in my life 😋it sounds delicious

A potato salad of my homegrown veg + a SA friend’s recipe

I could eat a whole bowl of this + never miss burgers sausages or whatever’s on the bbq Grin

My DM was taught to make a German potato salad by her dad and along with this plus hard boiled eggs and marmite baguette sandwiches it was all she could make in her teens.

Giant couscous with roasted veg, feta & pomegranate seeds.

That's my favourite salad! But I have to serve the feta separately because DH doesn't like cheese......

greengreyblue · 19/05/2024 12:24

Homemade coleslaw with red cabbage and added chopped walnuts and raisins.
A Greek salad.
Peach and mozzarella with basil on mixed leaves.

greengreyblue · 19/05/2024 12:26

Forgot my favourite side of celeriac remoulade.

Skybluepinky · 19/05/2024 12:27

Cheesecake, I hate bbq foods.

German style potato salad (with sour cream not mayo), homemade coleslaw, a green salad, mango and shallot salad with lemon thyme

I’m never sure as to German potato salad as it may vary by region by my grandad (born Luxembourg brought up in Germany, German mother but from Metz when it was German rule) he just did it with French dressing. And chives.

Dakos salad
https://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/cretan-dakos/

Also can’t beat a large tray of Caprese salad.

We adore dakos. I buy krisprolls and soak those, grate the tomatoes with the garlic and onions and pile on top. We have trouble getting the mizithra so we've found that cheap Greek cheese (fake feta) the closest thing.

Also from my Cretan cookbook, we do Aubergines wrapped in feta and cooked in a homemade tomatoe sauce.

Basically, I slice the Aubergines lengthways and fry them off, put them to kne side until cool enough to handle. Save the weird end pieces you end up with. Dice those pieces.

Fry a finely diced into on with the diced aubergine until sticky. Add pasta, garlic, oregano (lots!) salt, pepper, honey and red wine vinegar to taste.

Crumble a block of feta, wrap the aubergine slices around the feta, lay jn a baking tray and pour over the tomato sauce. Dot around any left over feta and bake.

But I also love a panzanella, a fattoush and tabbouleh.!

Somw really amazing looking recipes here. I'm saving this thread. Thanks @Frazzledmumclub@Frazzledmumclub

We barbecue avocado halves and once done, (when the edges curl up), stuff with houmous. Always goes down well. For a bigger crowd then sesame sauce coleslaw and a watermelon/feta/mint salad.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/05/2024 12:36

Brown rice salad with red peppers, cashews and a soy sauce dressing, among other things...

Dolallytats · 19/05/2024 12:41

Bouledeneige · 19/05/2024 12:41

Had a delicious salad in Turkey with a houmous base, leaves and salad veg with pomegranate fruit and balsamic dressing. Delish.

VeraForever · 19/05/2024 12:43

Russian salad aka Olivier salad.

Diced potatoes, peas, chopped cornichons, diced carrot , dill mustardy mayo.

Reminiscent of the old tins of Heinz vegetable salad.

TheFairyCaravan · 19/05/2024 12:49

Rainbow couscous from the Pinch of Nom book

LBOCS2 · 19/05/2024 12:49

This orzo and chickpea salad. It's delicious and a nice carbohydrate alternative to bread/potatoes.
