Riverford Asian coleslaw. With red cabbage.

Tarkan · 19/05/2024 15:43

Either my friend's potato salad which has chopped red onion and boiled eggs through it, or a celeriac and apple remoulade which I find a nice change from coleslaw.

Skewers with veg of your choice.

New potatoes dripping in butter!

greengreyblue · 19/05/2024 17:46

I’d have to turn you away @Elphamouche . Cannot stand anything dripping or swimming in melted butter. 🤮

Can't believe tabbouleh is still a thing 😂was doing that in 87 at catering school. I personally would do a potato salad with chopped shallots and parsley. It has to be shallots and sherry vinegar with olive oil poured on while the potatoes are still warm.

greengreyblue · 19/05/2024 18:15

Pretty sure tabbouleh has been around for centuries.

Notateacheranymore · 19/05/2024 18:18

I’m all about desserts so I’d bring something like a trifle or other communal dessert. Or perhaps a school cake. Both are popular with fam and friends. I do also garlic hasselback potatoes especially with Jersey Royals.

Aaah I'm working class so obviously not up on these things, 😂when I was growing up salad was; lettuce, tomato ,cucumber, and home grown radishes, topped with salad cream 😁what I meant was that tabbouleh was ' fashionable ' in the eighties so we were serving that in the training restaurant, I'd never fucking heard of it lol.

mummysquasher · 19/05/2024 18:36

Great thread! Even before I stopped eating meat the sides and salads were always my favourite.

Chickpea salad - chickpeas, black olives, red onion, tomatoes, parsley with vinaigrette dressing.

Pink coleslaw - just use red cabbage and it goes pink

Solasum · 19/05/2024 18:44

Orzo with roasted butternut squash, broccoli, blue cheese, topped with toasted seeds and/or pomegranate seeds

DaffydownClock · 19/05/2024 18:48

Tabbouleh
New potatoes with lemon and mint

Waitwhat23 · 19/05/2024 19:10

Celeriac remoulade. So easy to make and even people who are a bit meh about celeriac like it.

Grated carrot with lemon and parsley mixed through.

Marinated halloumi.

And I tried fattoush (not sure of spelling) from a Lebanese restaurant recently and it was so delicious!

pointythings · 19/05/2024 19:12

Chickpea salad with feta and cherry tomatoes in a yogurt, mint and garlic dressing.

greengreyblue · 19/05/2024 19:15

@NeilTayloriscatwit Neither had I in 1987! Still on Instant Whip back then! 🤣

MooFroo · 19/05/2024 19:27

Smashed potato salad

PaperTyger · 19/05/2024 19:44

@Skethylita so you don't cook the leeks?

Skethylita · 19/05/2024 19:51

No, all raw. They belong to the onion family, so taste similar.

ayvasili · 19/05/2024 19:54

Baby spinach leaves, sliced strawberries, pine nuts, grated parmesan and thinly sliced onion, dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar...scrumptious!

Small elbow pasta boiled and cooled, sweetcorn, chopped sweet peppers I like to use one of each colour, mayo to cover-mix well and then a sprinkling of paprika on top. Pop into the fridge for at least an hour but preferably overnight for flavours to mellow.

German potato salad as taught to me by a family friend from munich.peel potatoes and cut into bit size pieces. Boil potatoes until soft enough to easily pierce with a fork. Set aside. In a frying pan, fry diced onions and diced bacon.
Boil a cup of water and dissolve a chicken stock cube into it. Add half a cup of vinegar to the liquid, and then pour the liquid into the drained potatoes. Add the bacon and onions to the potato mixture and mix. Now set aside so that the flavours can mix and mellow, and the potatoes can absorb the liquid. This salad will be much better the day after you make it, so pop it into the fridge and have patience :)

FemaleRageTheMusical · 19/05/2024 19:57

I've never tried it but I'm craving a potato salad with chorizo in it. I think it would be gorgeous so that.
