This is awful. She is clearly very mentally unwell.

TokyoSushi · 08/05/2024 16:06

Oh gosh, I'm not sure that's a great idea.

WraithBabe · 08/05/2024 16:08

I’m really uncomfortable about her being used as entertainment like a freak show exhibit.

ladybirdsanchez · 08/05/2024 16:08

I find it bizarre that Richard Gadd said that he'd changed various things about the Martha character, so that the real Martha would hardly recognise her. Is it just me, or do the two women look really rather similar?

DelphineFox · 08/05/2024 16:10

Do you have to pay for it on YouTube or is it free?

I feel really uncomfortable about Richard Gadd, he seems to be an arrogant twat who is happy to exploit this woman's MH difficulties for his own fame. By displaying the abuse he suffered at producers hands as he descended into serious drug addiction we are expected to make the Martha story balanced out. I hate this whole thing, the show, the story and don't see how it can end well.

Vastlyoverrated · 08/05/2024 16:15

Worried this person is not mentally well and this might trigger relapses of her previous behaviour, or other behaviour. Really wouldn't watch this for that reason, in fact, I switched Baby Reindeer off after one episode when I realised we were being invited to watch this person's mental illness as a form of entertainment/infotainment and I didn't realise she was identifiable. Now she is, it's unforgivable.

It’s uncanny the resemblance. I personally thought he might have been stalked by a man but used a woman as a cover up on the show.

The whole situation is just so bizarre. Man playing himself on his autobiographical TV show. Female stalker clearly identifiable and posting lots on social media. And now an interview with her and Piers Morgan. Even though she is in all likelihood mentally extremely vulnerable.

Are we sure that this isn't a social experiment?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 08/05/2024 16:29

I encountered this woman several times in the late 90s early 00s and she is everything he says she is and hasn't changed in the slightest.

She's absolutely nuts and completely Teflon. She will be loving all the attention this will absolutely inflame her behaviour.

Can't wait to watch though.

Pollipops1 · 08/05/2024 16:37

I imagine she sees nothing wrong with her behaviour

I have avoided watching Baby Reindeer but I knew that this would happen and even thought that Piers would insert himself somehow.

This woman is not centred in reality and giving her a platform like this will only encourage her behaviour as she genuinely believes everyone is tuning in to watch her because they are fans.

Maybe the money Piers offered changed her mind.

How without watching it did you know that the stalker would end up doing an interview?

I'd guess that most people who have seen it would assume the last thing she'd want is public scrutiny

dandelionseverywhere · 08/05/2024 16:54

Oh good grief how awful 🙈
She makes hundreds of posts on Facebook rambling about nothing. I don't think this is a good idea.

Should mentally ill people be held accountable? Is it actual mental illness or a personality disorder that she has?

Did you clock on that you had met her irl before she was outed?

LuckysDadsHat · 08/05/2024 17:00

She has gone very quiet on Facebook since her interview, and is complaining to Scottish newspapers that the interview didn't go the way she thought it would and Piers was too aggressive.

I cannot believe from her Facebook ramblings she has not been sectioned or put in prison alone! Forget about the Martha stuff, this isn't the first time she has done this, she has form for stalking over the past couple of decades.

Is Gadd culpable? Yes to some degree, is this woman mentally unwell? Without a shadow of a doubt. She needs some serious inpatient time.

It’s clear that she hasn’t been helped in the way she should have been, Richard Gadd has even said so himself though his words seem rather disingenuous given he must have been aware how easy she would be to find and doesn’t appear to have done anything to protect her.

The real irony being that the real villain, ‘Darrien’, was pretty well disguised and he’ll likely never be held to account for his actions.

LeaveTheClocksAlone · 08/05/2024 17:02

I'm sick of hearing about the whole thing and no longer believe any of it

how could he have protected her more? Really changed her depiction? Maybe he went for a double bluff. I think people who went sleuthing are also responsible tbh.

Because it was immediately obvious that this woman was unwell, had no grasp on reality and wanted attention? That was clear from the few snippets I heard on the radio / in work anyway. I know she spoke up at a show of his and that she mass sent messages and showed up to his work regularly. I knew that it was ‘bad enough’ that Netflix thought it would make for an interesting programme, so clearly it was never going to be about a woman of sound mind who simply misinterpreted his friendly demeanour as flirting.

She was never going to be embarrassed by this ‘outing’ her because she doesn’t believe she did anything wrong. She was always going to thrive off the attention because that’s all she’s always wanted.
