The other thread that had 300+ replies has just been deleted - apparently a PBP. That thread has been running for weeks, why now MNHQ?

Weird

She glassed him in the series, he doesn't say that she did it in real life. Not everything in the show happened in real life. She wouldn't have outed herself if people and media didn't stalk her. Everyone is now taking advanatge of a mentally ill woman for their own gain.

I disagree, clearly she's someone who enjoys attention I'm not surprised she outed herself. She may be mentally unwell its not an excuse for her behaviour. She's being exploited by the media because people are curious about her. But she's also using the media to enable her behaviour. I don't think I'll be watching that interview.

HappierTimesAhead · 08/05/2024 21:34

Quite interesting that so many people seem to have come accross her IRL but perhaps that's not surprising.

The fact he PLAYED HIMSELF in a series allegedly about HIS OWN real life experiences and then said he did everything he could to protect who she is or was is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard.

maybe he his stupid though. I believe even if showed her as a 6 ft size 8 blonde, internet sleuths would have worked it out regardless. It’s like when there’s a super injuction but everyone knows who the subject is.

If she was a size 8 six foot blonde he probably would have had a relationship with her

BodyKeepingScore · 08/05/2024 21:44

@Psychoticbreak you truly think that someone spent 10 years building social media profiles and planting specific posts to later use them in a tv series to gain notoriety? That's farcical.

Psychoticbreak · 08/05/2024 21:47

@BodyKeepingScore the more people I meet the less I wonder what they are at at this point.

It’s uncanny the resemblance. I personally thought he might have been stalked by a man but used a woman as a cover up on the show.

And yet the real Martha called the actress 'fat and ugly' !!!

Awful.

pinksheetss · 08/05/2024 21:56

Psychoticbreak · 08/05/2024 20:41

Absolutely. IF they are the victim. He could be just making it all up. We dont know what is fact from fiction. Im very sceptical I have to say.

And it's comments like this that make it so hard for men and women to come out about things happening to them

Quite sad the amount of people against Gadd or claiming it's not true etc. he's been very open with it all and made a point to show he's not an innocent victim himself

The only mistake he made was thinking the public wouldn't go hunting her down. Guess no one expects that when you are outraged about a stalker you turn into one yourself to try find that person

Psychoticbreak · 08/05/2024 22:18

He played HIMSELF in the series. He knew she was going to be found regardless. And I am not saying he is or is not telling the truth I am just saying we do not know. Not for sure. So while it would be interesting to see the other side so to speak I dont think we will as it is Piers Morgan doing the interview.

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/05/2024 22:29

I binge watched it last weekend. I think that Richard Gadd is absolutely entitled to share his story in whatever way he sees fit. I think it was brave actually. He absolutely did not portray himself as an innocent victim
and acknowledged that he made some poor decisions that led him down some questionable paths. The real life Martha has a lot of form. I'm going to watch and see what she has to say.

Yeah I thought that was weird too. It was a reasonable discussion 🤷🏻‍♀️

What on earth are you expecting to see in the public domain to know 'for sure'?

She's being interviewed so presumably accepts she is the person being depicted even if she thinks it's not all true. Multiple people claim she behaves exactly as depicted - are they all mistaken? Her posting style reinforces everything.

Psychoticbreak · 08/05/2024 22:51

@ChaoticCrumble but that is the thing I do not KNOW, you do not KNOW, nobody does KNOW for sure bar he and she. I think she has an entitlement to at least give her side is all. I like to hear both sides of a story.

Supersimkin2 · 08/05/2024 23:06

Was the PBP the lady herself?

She must be loving the attention. Fuel to her destroyer’s fire.

CharlotteLightandDark · 08/05/2024 23:11

“As for her getting help - what kind of help do people suggest? Being nasty is not a MH condition. Being delusional is, but it is notoriously hard to treat.”

was coming to say exactly this. People seem to think there must be a treatment for her issues that she is for some reason unable to access but it’s highly likely she will have had therapeutic interventions offered within the criminal justice system if not the healthcare system.

if people lack insight into their problems to this degree they will not have the cognitive flexibility necessary to reflect and understand enough to change.

not everyone can be helped by therapy and medication and I agree delusional disorders are the most highly treatment resistant, she likely has a personality disorder also (maybe NPD as this is what real narcissism looks like as opposite internet narcissism).

EthnoBotanist · 08/05/2024 18:10

Sadly, if you have a stalker you can’t help but be obsessed by them. This is what the series depicts very well.

This is one of the most interesting things about this case, bravo for raising it.

I feel that this thread is slightly surreal, given that most of the pp say they've never watched it, and never will.

It's about so much more than just being stalked.

HRTQueen · 08/05/2024 23:29

Well he got his five minutes of fame that he has always wanted (as he tells us in Baby Reindeer) and now she will get the attention she craves

I hope she has been financially rewarded

But she is vulnerable and it’s very clear her character was not disguised at all and that I feel very uncomfortable about

why is the powerful man worth protecting but the unwell woman isn’t

Psychoticbreak · 09/05/2024 00:08

@HRTQueen and sense finally.

aurynne · 09/05/2024 04:28

Some of the comments on this thread are unbelievable. This woman made this man's life miserable, by her own choice, regardless of any mental health issues. Mental health is not an excuse to break the law or torture someone.

She is very lucky the worst thing happening to her is that a miniseries was made. If she had done that to me or anyone dear to me I could guarantee she would not get away with it so easily. Any of you who have ever been stalked know the madness your life is thrown in, the paranoia that your stalker will apear, and ruin, any significant event, that you will find them at the supermarket, at the movies, at the dentist. The feeling of going insane.

I have zero sympathy for her, and her victim can do whatever the hell he wants to do. In fact, by outing her like this she will be known to basically everybody, and hence much less likely to get away with stalking or harassing anyone else. Just for that reason this is well worth it.

Women subjected to horrific abuse/crimes waive there anonymity out there abusers tell there story are branded brave and heroes

RG has done the same and some on her call him fit to burn and sympathise with the abuser strongly suspect it for no other reason then the victim is man

saying she’s mentally ill and supporting her
broadmoor is full of mentally ill people I guess the same people sticking up for Martha feel the same about the moors murders and feel sorry for them

as for saying it’s just his version of events the woman he’s been subjected to various police investigations and her crimes confirmed Aldo she’s done it to others not just RG

Edited

Difficult to read your post, but think I get the gist.

Maybe you're not aware but women who have been victims of abuse or assault are commonly not believed, accused of lying or exaggerating, sometimes even sent death or rape threats. Male victims do not face more hardship than female ones, come on.

Generally the main difference is that male abusers are a threat to life whereas female abusers aren't.
