Been away for the weekend for a reunion in St Andrews of my old hall of residence, so have a lot to catch up on Shock (both at the reunion - 40 years! Shock and these threads)

In the mean time, this is what my SIL was greeted with when she went in to feed the boys Grin A suitable cat tax, methinks Wink

Is it acceptable to pay Dog Duty rather than Cat Tax.

Definitely. Or a rabbit tithe.

Of course it is. We accept cats, dogs, vases and back passages too.

And here

Here too. I’ll go along to cancel out my bloke’s vote.

Jason118 · 02/05/2024 13:58

Confirmed, he's not voting Tory!

I see The Times is parroting the Government's claim that the 93,000 plus asylum seekers barred from having their claim assessed in the UK (because of the Iilegal Migration Act) will all be sent to Rwanda.

No mention of the practicalities (which we know the Government doesn't much care about) or indeed the cost (which they also dont care about).
Transparent drivel.

Have we told Rwanda this?

Something I read ages ago seems to think Rwanda only had the capacity to process 100 a year. Quite. Lot of the 93,000 are going to be long dead by the time they get to the front of the queue.

Notonthestairs · 02/05/2024 14:03

PCC and district council elections here. Polling Station was quieter than GE but doing reasonable trade.

Shame to think today would have been the GE (under Fixed Term Parliaments Act) - would have made for a decent Bank Holiday weekend regardless of weather.

InMySpareTime · 02/05/2024 14:13

Got no pets, does this work as a poll tax?

I suspect this one would vote for whoever gave him a treat. Luckily he's 6 so too young to vote.

Regardless of capacity, Rwanda only has the intention to process "0" asylum seekers. And so far they are well up on that.

So I'm watching Tora! Tora! Tora! while recovering from dental surgery. I'm hoping it's not going to be Tory! Tory! Tory! in the mayoral elections later.

Sorry. Blame the painkillers! 💊 😀

Piggywaspushed · 02/05/2024 15:24

Proud to report that DS2 voted in West Mids mayoral election today. I think he took along at least two housemates.

pointythings · 02/05/2024 15:52

They could so easily expand the range of permitted ID, but that would undo its primary intent. Maybe this particular unintended consequence will focus minds.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/05/2024 16:03

I hope it’s the second thing Labour repeal once they get in.

SerendipityJane · 02/05/2024 16:04

It was widely predicted a while back that the sort of people who go "bloody well done" about voter ID were also exactly the sort of people who would never assume it would apply to them.

Alexandra2001 · 02/05/2024 16:05

Tom Hunt should realise that if an MP struggles with voter ID then what about many others who are not in his fortunate position? ie having constituency staff who can help him out.

Quite how the Tories can introduce this policy and electoral commission go along with it when its sole purpose is to hinder the younger vote is a real scandal.

InMySpareTime · 02/05/2024 16:16

What gets me with the Tom Hunt debacle is that the solution is an emergency proxy vote.
There's absolutely nothing the ID requirement "solves" that couldn't have been achieved by asking people to bring their voter card with them instead. It's posted to every voter anyway, and shows you at least live there.

Protestors in Peckham surrounding a coach outside of a hotel which they believe is here to take migrants to the Bibby Stockholm.

Groups say they received ‘intelligence’ the coach was going to three other locations to pick people up & removals happening all over the country

....
BREAKING: The bus is gone 🚨

It’s empty and has been driven away by police. Arrests made as people tried to block it’s exit

Thank you piggy. I was in two minds about saying anything, but it has been so bad the last few days, I couldn't not.

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2024 16:29

I don't understand how Tom Hunt managed not to have ID, was he in a room with bad people and they confiscated his passport, driving licence etc?
