So basically we’re refused their asylum claim and rather than just sending them home we paid them£3k, a 5 year resettlement package and presumably £10k to Rwanda for taking them? Of course they volunteered. They aren’t stupid.

Conservatives. The party of fiscal responsibility.

Zonder · 30/04/2024 23:44

Since the new thread ties in with the loc elections how about Sunak gets smashed?

I'm thinking a few PIP claimants might decide to take Theresa May's "Citizen of Nowhere" descriptor and apply...probably an easier process too!

Taking back control latest: we’re just waving Lorries through border checks even if they have the incorrect paperwork.

Did anyone really expect anything else?

I hope that local people might turn out to protest if that happens.

I suspect they will. There have been precedents of schools and their staff and pupils making a lot of noise in support of individual pupils in similar situations, with big demonstrations, write-ins to local MPs and the Home Office, staff being prepared to go out of their way in providing supporting evidence for legal challenges etc. It could all get very embarrassing indeed for Rishi.

FFS. How do these people live with themselves? Imagine going home at the end of the working day and thinking to yourself "Great day's work today, I put a single woman on the streets after she was evicted through no fault of her own, just think, she's probably cold, wet, and being attacked and/or raped at this very moment".

I think everything’s new to Victoria. Not sure she’s the sharpest tool in the box.

She reminds me irresistibly of that spoof feeble Tory woman MP that Rosie Holt does.

Ah, but you see the error Sunak may have made is legislating that Rwanda was safe, rather than legislating that everywhere is safe, so perhaps they weren't able to be deported because they were fleeing danger?

Edited

One can only do this if one knows what a woman is.

Thread 43 coming soon!

Hoping the Tories lose at least 500 seats in the local election. Ideally lose control of every council where that is a possibility.

If you have a vote, please use it on Thursday.

Like it! But I am scared of tempting fate😬

BBC news on R4 making it very clear that the Rwanda "deportation" was separate to the Rwanda scheme. Good.

GMB news very clear on this too.

It's very important for people to distinguish between someone arriving for asylum on a small boat and being refused and this case.

Someone who didn't arrive by boat, didn't get asylum and decided inspired of being deported they'd like a new - funded - life in Rwanda.

And yet radio 4 still reporting that a minister has said it's proof the Rwanda scheme is working!

Mmm. Paid with a resettlement sum....

He shouldn't have been eligible for the Rwanda scheme. His asylum application was turned down, it should have been a straight deportation back to country of origin.

The Rwanda scheme is about processing asylum applications in Rwanda, not sending failed asylum seekers.

I wonder if they have costed for sending all of the failed asylum seekers over there too? That's likely to be far more costly and controversial than it is even now!

He is not being sent there under the Rwanda Bill scheme, he is being sent there under a parallel voluntary Rwanda schem that the Government is not so keen to talk about

I have seen posts mentioning that this person was a student who was already planning to go to Rwanda but can't find evidence of that.

Migrants refused asylum in the UK to be offered thousands of pounds to move to Rwanda - report

Asylum seekers who refuse the financial incentive will reportedly be unable to officially work or claim benefits in the UK.
