They will be tattooing people they ship to Rwanda.

You don't think we destroyed all that perfectly good kit in 1945 do you.

(It is beyond sickening to imagine Goering tapping on his cell door just before taking the purple pill and passing on details of some "special shops" he knows the Britishers will be needing in 79 years)

@SerendipityJane sorry, are you serious about the tattooing?

Advance warning of a potential clusterfuck. DEFRA have decided it’s a waste of time to test British cows for H5N1. Presumably because what you don’t know couldn’t possible hurt you. Even if you know that it’s already affecting birds and some mammals over here. Allegedly we’re just going to keep an eye on what’s happening in the US.

This has results of Brexit written all over it.
We import infected animals. No checks - thanks Brexit.
We don't test because it's not been an issue before but now we can't export or make our own eat it if we admit there is an issue. Farmers are not in the mood to cull given the wider Brexit problems they are having and protests.

Remember when they decided to stop tracking the 9 initial Covid cases that were discovered and Boris decided instead to say we would sacrifice the old people and never lockdown? I don't think they learnt anything from that.

The fact you couldn't tell is all the answer you need.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/05/2024 15:06

I don’t think it’s a result of Brexit as much as the government not caring and not taking things seriously. And as you say we all know how well that worked out with Covid.

Brexit is going to make it a whole lot worse given we’re just waving imports through without checking. But I’m guessing it’s partly austerity too because everything has been cut to the bone. There’s a reason we only uncovered the horse meat scandal when we tried to import food into Ireland. They have a decent food standards checking system. We cut ours to the bone.

It would not surprise me, it really wouldn't.

Only for so long. Eventually someone will get the WTO to step in and kick arse. Or the best they can do.

Sanctions anyone ?

A good time to invest in the UK if you like gambling.

I am concerned that these threads come round so often now that some posters may run out of pictures of their cats.

I am contractually obliged to put new photos in the family group chat daily for those of my DC who do not live with me, so no chance.

There was a point last night when I heard about sending the failed asylum seeker to Rwanda that I did think ‘FFS it’s only Tuesday.’ They do seem to be going for bundle as much performative cruelty in as possible by Thursday this week.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/05/2024 15:44

So far this week we have:
had a surprise round up of asylum seekers
declared war on the sick and disabled
discovered we don’t know where most of the asylum seekers are
finally introduced a post Brexit check on the border by not introducing it because it would cause chaos
paid somebody we could have deported to go to Rwanda

That is a relief.

Can't wait for my vote tomorrow.

It'll be a bonus if the Tory candidates stop me again outside and try and speak to me.

I'll be polite but will be asking them if they've been living under a rock for the last 14 years because it's the only way they could believe I'd be voting for more of the same!

itsgettingweird · 01/05/2024 16:58

Ps. Loving the obligatory cat check ins. The law one has me laughing out loud!

Yep.

And they want us to vote for more if this!

Just checking in. Disappointing results @VONC in Holyrood this afternoon (70:58 for SNP to continue) I hope everyone votes tomorrow in England. Depressingly we are stuck with the SNP for 2 more long years here.

I wonder who cats would vote for if they were enfranchised? Other than the late former leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party, of course.

This one would vote tory as he's an idiot.

EXC: Rwanda plan could be delayed as civil servants sue Government over law breach

FDA union says officials are being placed in a legal conflict by Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda laws giving ministers the power to ignore ECHR.

They accuse PM of “fudging" Rwanda legislation to please "competing factions" of the Tory Party
