Thanks! Obligatory cat pic for check in. Perdy doesn’t get any less judgey when the Tories are mentioned. Currently doing yoga to keep her stress levels down ahead of the local elections.

Thanks for the new thread and previous clarification of the concurrent Rwanda scheme.

I'm sure Boris doing this is really helping the distancing from the Tories - he just can't help getting himself in the limelight, can he? Another who clearly can't read a room on the public perception of him https://news.sky.com/story/boris-johnson-tells-voters-to-forget-about-government-13126768

Boris Johnson tells voters to 'forget about the government'

The campaign team for the Tory mayor of the West Midlands is sending out literature with pictures of him and the former prime minister.

Thanks again for these threads, a bit of normality in an otherwise mad world.

Thanks for the new thread.

Thanks for the new thread.

If it turns out that the volunteer who offered to go to Rwanda was a student who was going anyway then I’m going to start sending out emails from some Nigerian princes. Or failing that just email my MP or the Chancellor for some cash. If they can be this easily fleeced out of money no harm in just asking is there.

mibbelucieachwell · 01/05/2024 12:58

Thanks again @DuncinToffee

Apologies for being catonomically inactive.

Having helped a friend with PIP forms, it does seem an infinitely easier way to get lump sums in payment, as I am sure others on the thread can confirm.

LlynTegid · 01/05/2024 13:05

I wonder who cats would vote for if they were enfranchised? Other than the late former leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party, of course.

Well the default for PIP is NO, whereas the default for Rwanda is YES (obviously).

I bet there are 1,000,000 people tasked with checking PIP applications, and a part time poodle checking Rwanda applications (a bark, and you're in).

Notonthestairs · 01/05/2024 13:29

Thanks Duncin. Loving the photos.

I see Conservatives have released a Government video of rounding up asylum seekers for Rwanda. Times of course for the local elections.

Aside from the fact they are playing with peoples lives to suit the aims I assume
Pre election purdah means squat.

Never let the Conservatives claim they are the party of tradition. They'd trample over every convention there is to hang onto power.

Notonthestairs · 01/05/2024 13:29

Timed not times 🙄

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/05/2024 13:31

There’s nothing keeping anybody in Rwanda either. Once you’ve got your 3K you can go wherever you like. You won’t get your accommodation paid for but I’m sure whoever is being paid will be happy to say you are there and keep claiming. It’s not like we can keep track of the asylum seekers in our own country is it?

I have to say, I am finding it funny. You do have to laugh at the government sometimes. And they have been extraordinarily evil this week.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/05/2024 13:32

I was going to ask that question @Notonthestairs. I’m assuming purdah is no longer a thing.

So, if you go once, can you come back and have another go on the ride later? Every 5 years, perhaps?

TokyoSushi · 01/05/2024 13:35

Checking in! I've just been to the Town Hall to collect my ballot boxes for tomorrow I actually have a lovely picture of my cat with them, but I probably shouldn't post it here!

BestIsWest · 01/05/2024 13:54

Checking in.

They've also ditched announcing policy to HoC before giving it to (sympathetic) media channels.

Amazing how little conventions matter when you are 20 points down in the polls.

Also on this - if the accommodation over there cannot cater for all of the refugees (who may or may not be there for 5 years, perhaps a few of them might have been sold on to locals) I suspect Rwanda will be asking for more funds to increase housing capacity. I'm amazed Rwanda isn't creating their own airline tbh. We could keep them in weapons against the Congo for the foreseeable with this - they've got a very handy ally now!

Zonder · 01/05/2024 14:18

Lovely shiny new thread thank you.

IClaudine · 01/05/2024 14:32

Hi all thanks for new thread @DuncinToffee and for choosing my suggestion!

Not sure if looking forward to tomorrow and Friday or not. Feeling a bit nervous...

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/05/2024 14:36

Advance warning of a potential clusterfuck. DEFRA have decided it’s a waste of time to test British cows for H5N1. Presumably because what you don’t know couldn’t possible hurt you. Even if you know that it’s already affecting birds and some mammals over here. Allegedly we’re just going to keep an eye on what’s happening in the US.

SerendipityJane · 01/05/2024 14:36

They will be tattooing people they ship to Rwanda.

You don't think we destroyed all that perfectly good kit in 1945 do you.

(It is beyond sickening to imagine Goering tapping on his cell door just before taking the purple pill and passing on details of some "special shops" he knows the Britishers will be needing in 79 years)
