Silly bunt.

I see The Times is parroting the Government's claim that the 93,000 plus asylum seekers barred from having their claim assessed in the UK (because of the Iilegal Migration Act) will all be sent to Rwanda.

No mention of the practicalities (which we know the Government doesn't much care about) or indeed the cost (which they also dont care about).
Transparent drivel.

Jason118 · 02/05/2024 08:47

That BBC link, no mention of the 'Brexit Brake' which we have constantly in the 'on' position. It's as if no one remembers.

MrsMurphyIWish · 02/05/2024 08:49

This is Mulan, she eagerly awaits today’s results (despite what her face may say).

Voted on the way to work. I still think Street will keep his mayoral role but we’ll see!

It's asylum seekers, innit ? Them and the disabled of course. And single mums.

Haidar, 53, who was born in Nigeria but has Lebanese citizenship, donated £360,000 to the Conservatives last year. He said he was not consulted by the government or the Tory party about the decision to scrap the non-dom tax scheme, but that he did not expect to receive special consultation because of his donation

‘I am moving – that is it’: tycoon speaks out about the end of non-dom tax status

Entrepreneur Bassim Haidar says ending the break is self-defeating as total UK tax take will fall amid an exodus of the super-rich

Attacking disabled people not working out so well, eh?

MissMarplesNiece · 02/05/2024 10:50

It was Yvette Cooper who introduced the ATOS assessments for PIP, so I don't trust Labour Party not to continue the punching down on people with disabilities.

PIP didn't exist when Labour was in power. You are confusing it with ESA.

IClaudine · 02/05/2024 11:08

Although I feel dubious about Labour and disability benefits it is really important to be clear that the horror that is PIP is wholly a Tory product.

Alexandra2001 · 02/05/2024 11:10

There is nothing wrong with making sure that benefits are only paid to people who are genuinely disabled.

The Tories have completely changed the criteria since Coopers reforms.

IClaudine · 02/05/2024 11:15

@MissMarplesNiece is right to point out that Labour brought in the WCA and ESA and contracted ATOS to do the assessments. It was not a good thing and people suffered.

The Tories then built on that and went further by replacing DLA with PIP.

Reform are going to keep on surging as long as Sunak is in charge. Their voters don't like him

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2024 11:43

Reform could become the second place party in the Blackpool South by-election

Reform could become the second place party in the Blackpool South by-election

Blackpool South is interesting because it is not a traditional Labour seat although it was Labour from 1997-2019.

The conservatives won in 2019 with a majority of over 3000, 11.3% of the votes cast.

So in the normal run of events it would not be that high up the Labour list of target seats, and there are many more vulnerable Tory seats.
No matter how Sunak tries to spin it tomorrow, the loss of Blackpool South will be another confirmation of how dire his parties chances at the GE are.
