So far this week we have:
had a surprise round up of asylum seekers
declared war on the sick and disabled
discovered we don’t know where most of the asylum seekers are
finally introduced a post Brexit check on the border by not introducing it because it would cause chaos
paid somebody we could have deported to go to Rwanda

And the announcement re NHS and trans people.

Haven't they left it a bit late?

God, I hope Labour learned their lesson from Rochdale and made sure there is nothing untoward.

Wouldn't it be great if parliamentary candidates also had to live in the constituency for 12 months before they could stand.

I suspect some Tories ought to be careful what they wish for.

All they would do is rent somewhere.

I would not care where my MP had previously lived, if they represented me well. Mine lives in the constituency but was an apologist for Boris Johnson.

An interesting thread on Labour and PiP.

I find this troubling

I’m surprised at Ellie Reeves, she is my MP is usually on the ball & very empathetic.

I have to be honest and say I am worried about Labour and disability benefits. They are not distancing themselves far enough from the Tory rhetoric for my liking.

Piggywaspushed · 01/05/2024 19:45

I reluctantly concur.

I'm hoping this is more of the timidity/fear of the tabloids, but we shall see.

They worry me on a number of fronts like this. Disability benefits is one, Brexit is another. It’s like they are trying to appeal to the same section of lunatics that the Tories are.

IClaudine · 01/05/2024 20:01

Let's see what their manifesto says. Hopefully they are taking note of reactions.

HannibalHeyes · 01/05/2024 20:49

A perfect image of what the Tories want us to go back to;

Honestly, if this bunch of Tory MOs had brain cells they’d be dangerous. (Or more dangerous than they are)

Hopefully Shapps has got all his IDs ready.

Thank you for the new thread.

I'll track down a neighbourhood cat for the cat tax.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow to bring a good result.

Now that made me laugh a lot.

You useless jellies. I will be so glad when this is over.

It’s the Ming vase strategy. I’d like to see more courage though.

Thanks for the thread @DuncinToffee. I have no cats or dogs, so I've posted a picture of my back passage.

Yes, not knowing the basics of PiP is tbh incredibly embarrassing, former employment rights lawyer & the Shadow Chancellors sister!

Unfortunately, a lot of Labours proposals are very timid, take NHS Dental Care, an utter mess, even under Blair, yet Labours proposals are v similar to the Tory ones, which have had zero take up by the Dental profession, Labours plan is equally ineffective.

Regardless, they ve a good poll lead but should the Cons get their act together, that might change.
