Anyone else struggling to find meaning in life and wondering what it's all about?

Mumonceremoved · 14/04/2024 22:46

Middle aged and generally just wondering what the point of it all is.

Why are we here?
What's the meaning of life?
What even is happiness?

Anyone else just feeling meh about the day to day drudgery and futility of it all?

Or if you did feel this way, how did you manage to snap out of it?

Is it normal?

How does your faith 🤔 and your experinces and idea of God speak to you then?

How does this work and help in your every day life ?

Just curiosity

I choose to have faith in God. I pray. I go on what I read in the bible too especially the new testament as Jesus came and changed the way the relationship with God was lived like in those days. But from my understanding some of the bible books were removed so we have the information we have and that's it. I don't listen to humans if it doesn't align with scripture. Thats my choice.

You might want to inform yourself about the long history of the dating and composition of the collection of various texts that makes up the Bible, AND the various wrangles throughout the centuries as to which bits were canonical and which not, and the different sects which embraced each version. Also, whose version of the Bible are you basing your entire belief system on?

Thanks for asking. Many will laugh but... I pray and I trust the answer in any given situation. I've been through a lot. I see God working and how he has worked in my life all since I was a child. I've had things happen and it could have broken me but I choose to cry and focus on my faith and talking to God and asking him to help me / us. I have a hard time with a child who is pda autistic. If anyone knows about pda you will understand the gravity of how hard it is. I still choose to worship God and find joy in doing so. I feel God is there. I know he is, its a feeling I've tapped into. I pursue a good relationship with him. I'm probably missing so much information I'm having to switch off now so busy.

This is why I am whole bible believer not part of a church or denomination. I know about the actions of men in past history choosing what books to include and not.

Evolution is very real. Coronavirus has evolved to many variants in a very short space of time due to random mutations giving rise to characteristics which enabled it to spread more easily without killing its host.

Jesus Christ is also very real. He said, did and claimed to be no ordinary person would do.

How do we square all the circles?

I don't think we have perfect knowledge but if Jesus claimed to be the resurrection and the life and many eye witnesses testified to that, we have to make a decision of whether His claims are true.

But humans wrote the scripture. Why would you trust what those humans say, but not others?

Lol yeah I get that. Scripture is what God wanted us to know. So I stick to that because to me that is the only thing that makes sense.

I feel like this and have a child who feels the same way.

I just don't get the point of it. Life is fucking hard. I have felt like this since I was sixteen so it isn't a phase.

I just don't get the point of it. Get up, work, eat, do mundane tasks, do something different at the weekend and follow this pattern for years and years until I get sick or old and things start to break down in my body.

There is a brief reprieve when we go on holidays but frankly a few weeks every year doesn't make the rest of it any easier.

I want to stay alive for my children though, at least until they have grown up and are living independently.

Edited

I feel like this , the reprieval is looking forward to holidays etc . I struggled massively during Covid as I had nothing to look forward

HÆLTHEPAIN · 15/04/2024 12:31

I’m going through similar, but also different. I so want to enjoy things but my body (ME and Fibro), with so many associated symptoms, is making me wonder what the point is. They’ve made my life so small. But then when I do get chance to enjoy something, it sparks hope and gives me a boost. I don’t feel depressed - more frustrated and full of fight to be better, but that fight is futile.

Someone earlier in the thread said health and fitness is important but I haven’t even got that.

HideousKinky · 15/04/2024 12:32

"Scripture is what God wanted us to know"

Presumably you readily accept what medical science offers you when it is needed to save your life & health? You don't have a problem about whether god wants us to know about antibiotics?

Infectiousdisease · 15/04/2024 12:37

Veggielove84 · 15/04/2024 10:25

OK. Why did the apes / monkeys stop evolving into humans ? I do not believe in evolution.

You don't believe in evolution?? Right......

@HÆLTHEPAIN

Just wondering 🤔 what activity gives you hope despite health disorders issues ?

Can you do this more often then?

I know through my own personal experiences anything creatively is real good beneficial to you as its like active mediation feel aspect to this,

Also i do chair yoga

I do Tai Chi

Mediation

being in nature in some way whether stroll in the park or by the sea

I have Rumertoid and OestoAthritis so know the feeling only too well of feeling and having health issues impact your life..

How much emotional and practical support do you currently have then?

Watchkeys · 15/04/2024 12:58

@Veggielove84

Yes, but that doesn't answer the question of why you choose to believe what some humans wrote, but don't believe what other humans wrote? What makes some humans superior in stating 'the truth', in your opinion? And if you think they were stating 'the word of god', how do you know that, in a way that makes sense?

Have you read the bible. Starting with genesis? I just believe God wanted a relationship with us and it was so until the world fell through Adam and eve choosing to eat from the tree and disobeyed God. Look at the end of the day op asked something and I am presenting my view. Why does someone talking about God create so much hostility? In the end days the hearts of people will grow cold. What could that mean ? Cold for God ?

Mumonceremoved · 15/04/2024 13:15

Maybe my life is just empty and devoid and that's why I'm miserable

Veggielove84 · 15/04/2024 13:15

Actually it says this...
Matthew 24:12
New King James Version

  1. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

That's why I'm so active on this thread. God gives me a fill to that void you are feeling.

Catinmyshedoh · 15/04/2024 13:18

There is no particular meaning to life. Life is just life. It has its ups and its downs.

Mumonceremoved · 15/04/2024 13:20

I do believe we are all one. One consciousness. Is that spirituality? I believe science backs that theory as well although happy to be told different of that's the case.

I can't get involved with the God stuff. I listened to a lecture by Richard Feynman on the meaning of life and the second lecture basically summed up how I feel about a higher power ... as science progresses it's almost impossible to keep believing in the basic principals of religion. And the more science reveals about the beginnings of our universe, the harder that will become.

No hostility from me. Just waiting for something you say to make sense :) Looking forward to it. You're entitled to your view, and it's very entertaining, but you still haven't answer the question about why you choose to believe some humans (the ones who wrote the bible) but not others (the ones with the proof about evolution). I suspect you can't answer that question, and that's fine. Not sure why you won't admit it though :)

Newsenmum · 15/04/2024 13:21

I feel this and then I realise In a lot of situations this is the feeling of privilege and luxury.

Mumonceremoved · 15/04/2024 13:22

The lectures are titled 'the meaning of it all' incase anyone is interested. They are on audible.

Yes, but the book you base your entire belief system on is the result of those human decisions, hence the many different versions of the canonical Bible. What do you mean by 'whole Bible'?

wejammin · 15/04/2024 13:24

Setting aside theology for a minute...

OP I often feel like you. When I'm staring at my laptop screen sending another pointless email, or at parents evening when the teacher is showing me some chart that indicates where my kid is on some arbitrary gauge of acceptable understanding, or in the queue at Aldi looking at everyone else looking miserable. It all seems so complicated but pointless.

I've tried really hard to embrace mindfulness and living in the moment. I've studied Buddhism and tried meditation. I think the thing that gets me, is that I do truly believe that at the end of all the questioning, we're born as a random twist of circumstance, we live for a short period of time, we die. If that is as simple as it gets, what answers do I have for my children when they don't want to go to school cos they're bored, when they put their elbows on the table, when they want to wear a swimming costume to wedding. Cos turns out it doesn't fucking matter. But I can't shake society and rules. Then I get cross and agitated.
