All those logs = all those spiders.

Exactlly what I thought!

pictoosh · 03/03/2024 10:53

It's utterly staged for the sale and honestly, I think it's a work of art. It's not for living in but looking at and soaking up the atmosphere of. There is a lot of attention to detail and the sepia tones are lovely. The light is amazing.

I don't mind the colour scheme, I quite like neutrals, but hate the texture of the walls, looks like drying plaster, and the wood under the stairs is a weird look too.

The walls look designed to hide black mould/damp to me. But perhaps I’m just being cynical.

It looks like a wannabe Airbnb to me, not a normal rental. Perhaps nobody wanted an Airbnb in Newick? (I know Newick well, and while it’s pretty nice, it isn’t a tourist destination)

Dabralor · 03/03/2024 10:53

It's like one of a thousand Instagram houses.
There will be a woman somewhere who has spent years curating every single scratty little scamp of cloth and felt shoe. She will have spent hours just arranging the bed throws to look freshly scattered.

I feel a bit creeped out by this - where have the owners gone? Has there been a money drama or are they hiding from something?

Netflix true crime vibes 😱

greglet · 03/03/2024 10:53

I love it! Very French farm house.

Atmosphere? Like fog and misty rain?

The only atmosphere I can see is a depressive episode.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 03/03/2024 10:55

It’s basically a fancy brown hotel.

SpringLobelia · 03/03/2024 10:55

I like it. But I live in an old Victorian terrace that has too much mahogany furniture, turkish rugs and clutter so this seems the gentle restful opposite.

theduchessofspork · 03/03/2024 10:56

It’s a bit too institutional to be restful. The yellow-y cream is v psychiatric Hospt

It’s a developer job that has just been dressed though. They might want to rethink the brief next time but I don’t think it will put people off.

underthebun · 03/03/2024 10:57

it’s just contrived & insta styled

Aydel · 03/03/2024 10:57

It would be like living in a sepia photo.

Misthios · 03/03/2024 10:57

Someone's been on a sponge texture your walls course. The grey sponging in the hallway looks like grubby soot marks. It's been interior designed to within an inch of its life, and has therefore zero personality.

What light? It’s dull as a wet weekend in Blackburn

Collywobblewobbles · 03/03/2024 10:58

Should have turned the lighter on, shadows make the walls look dirty

TerfTalking · 03/03/2024 10:58

I actually love the house, but hell it needs some colour and contrast. The Victorian workhouse made me laugh!

candgen625 · 03/03/2024 10:59

Well the world would be boring if we all liked the same thing. Some people like calming neutrals, some like bright colours.

bombastix · 03/03/2024 10:59

That front door is an abomination.

SirenSays · 03/03/2024 11:00

The log pile is spider heaven. I'd love to stick a giant box of Daz on the kitchen side.

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/03/2024 11:02

@candgen625 stop being so reasonable, we're here for a good Sunday morning judging session. 😂

The walls look damp and too dark. White walls would actually look warmer. Are we sure it isn't AI?

ToasterChic · 03/03/2024 11:03

Interesting! I’ve saved loads of interiors post on instagram which look like this, very neutral, lots of line wash paint, sparse interiors…. but when you see it together in a whole house in context, it turns out I don’t like the overall vibe. Maybe more so because unlike instagram, it’s not a fantasy life somewhere but just a suburban road near a station in the rainy UK.

the wood under the stairs like that I’ve seen in instagram loads and I always think SPIDERS! Although maybe all the spiders would just stay there and you’d never get surprised by one in your bedroom or on the dressing gown hanging on your bathroom door so maybe it’s a good idea!

Pardonnezmoimadame · 03/03/2024 11:04

I think this look would look ok in one or two rooms or an area of the house but it’s awful everywhere.

Im all for contemporary interiors in older houses, but this might work in a chalet in the alps- not a commuter town in the south east.

In also hate the way all the clothes and shoes look part of the decor…how can someone live like this? It gives me the creeps!

LeavesOnTrees · 03/03/2024 11:05

Workhouse Chic -the new trend in interior design.

It just needs a few bare footed, malnourished looking children running around.

😂
And a few sequinned cushions scattered about the place. I must admit it's just crying out for some strategic colour bombing. My inner child would go nuts in this place.

Coloured fairy lights anyone? Singing Santa?
