How many machine washes do you do a day?

Ahemhmm · 08/02/2024 11:29

Family of 6 (and 4 pets) so I do 2 a day minimum and use the dryer unless it's summer.

Each person has a day for their weekly basket of clothes to be washed.
Then there's always another load to do, bedding, towels, pet bedding, cushion covers, coats etc.

@Kalevala

but I can't get my head around more than a full clothes wash and a towels/bedding wash for one person.

Why? As set out in my post, whites, darks, gym, bedding - all mounts up.

Full loads of each every week?

SausageTolls · 08/02/2024 20:16

2 adults, 2 primary kids, a load every day. Were quite a muddy family so that’s not too bad!

Kalevala · 08/02/2024 20:17

How do you do a towels load for one person a week? Bath towel, hand towel, face cloth doesn't fill a machine.

I assume you don't use one towel for the whole week? So 3/ towels per person would add up per week

BeeCucumber · 08/02/2024 20:19

Two adults - 3 washes a week - lights, darks and bedding/towels - all on a Friday night before food shopping and then fish and chips. What a routine!

minipie · 08/02/2024 20:22

I absolutely do use one towel for the whole week. What’s wrong with that? It’s only used when I’m clean.

Each to their own I like to change mine every other day.

Can be.

Definitely is for bedding, towels (I use 2 flannels a day as minimum and 3 hand towels a week). Darks and whites will vary but at least a 75% load. I do them when the laundry basket shows they need doing and it works out around one of each a week. Gym clothes are about a half load.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 08/02/2024 20:23

2 adults and 2 kids - 1 wash per person per week, 1 wash of bedding a week (alternates between our bedding one week, kids bedding the week after) and 1 wash of everyones towels a week

So 6 ish washes a week.

We very rarely wash coats

Spaghettieis · 08/02/2024 20:26

These threads always put me off getting a bigger bed. We have a 7kg machine and a double duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases will easily fit in one load alongside some towels or white T-shirts. Plus we only change bedding fortnightly, and towels weekly. I do not want to spend my precious hours on this earth doing laundry and changing bedding!

Yes, why not? We are clean, and they dry between uses. The most I've ever used is two when it's been warm but rainy in spring or autumn, so the heating doesn't click on and nothing dries.

Wrongsideofpennines · 08/02/2024 20:30

2 adults, toddler and baby.

1-2 a day. Not including the nappy wash which is every other day. Only use the dryer to finish things like towels and bedding off occasionally.

Baby is very sicky and wees for England so often they wake up having leaked onto pjs and bedding.

MamaAlwaysknowsbest · 08/02/2024 20:34

3 daily, very fast ones, very small family, no pets
It is mainly my clothes, they are large sizes and change quite few times, especially tshirts at night due to sweating

This is what we do, towels and bedding together. Towels every week, but we do bedding more like 3 or 4 weekly so one week I'll wash other things with towels that need doing like bathmats or the sofa blanket, or if I have a few heavy items of clothing that haven't fit with the clothes wash.

Snugglemonkey · 08/02/2024 20:36

One load every day. Four of us.

DoorPath · 08/02/2024 20:41

Two adults, two children - six loads a week (1-2 yellow/red loads, 1 black load, 1 whites, 1-2 light blues/greens, 1 dark blues/greens). It's never ending.

DoorPath · 08/02/2024 20:54

I don't get the washing per person. So do you just chuck the light colours in with the darks? Even if you do whites separately, surely you would not put a yellow in with a black? The clothes would get ruined/discoloured.

Snowpaw · 08/02/2024 20:57

Family of 3 and 1 pet.

One load a day generally, sometimes two max.

It's only more than that if someone has vomited.

DiscoBeat · 08/02/2024 20:59

Spaghettieis · 08/02/2024 20:07

Are you saying you effectively get through 24 towels a week for 4 people?!?

We do! 4 bath towels, one per person used for half a week. 2 dog towels (obviously washed separately - essential for our river loving labrador), 4 hand towels (four bathrooms), 3 bathmats. We use them a lot and the teens do sports as well as DH and me being home all day so the towels get a lot of use and really do need washing twice a week.

I don't get this either. Either you are mixing up darks and whites or happening by chance to have just the exact amount for a load. I just get everyone to empty their baskets into the laundry room (sorter trolley) and then when a section is full it's a full load and it goes on.

headcheffer · 08/02/2024 21:09

2 adults, 1 baby, 1 toddler, 1 dog. At least one a day.

Usually it's 2-3 dark washes, 1-2 lights and 1 whites, and then bedding on a Sunday.

We both gym everyday which adds to the washing quite a bit!

We do one clothes wash between two, mixed. We don't own any white or yellow clothes, I have a black t-shirt I sometimes wear. Clothes are mostly blues, greens, purples and greys, it's all fine together.

Mynewnameis · 08/02/2024 21:13

I can only conclude that some people must enjoy washing 😁

Thank goodness for a normal person!
