How many machine washes do you do a day?

Ahemhmm · 08/02/2024 11:29

Family of 6 (and 4 pets) so I do 2 a day minimum and use the dryer unless it's summer.

Each person has a day for their weekly basket of clothes to be washed.
Then there's always another load to do, bedding, towels, pet bedding, cushion covers, coats etc.

Family of 6 and a cat so theres the odd puked on blanket. I do at least 9 loads a week but can be more - 2 bedding, 2 towels (teen girls) 2 dark, 1 white, 1 colours 1 PE kits.
I tend to do the bulk mon-weds and rarely any at the weekend. WFH really helps!

GreyCarpet · 08/02/2024 18:59

Three adults.

2-3x mixed colour washes
1 white wash
1 towel wash
1 bedding wash
1 gentle wash

That's a week.

Never iron (no iron).

megletthesecond · 08/02/2024 19:01

Me and two teens.
Two, sometimes three washes a day. Currently have a two day backlog thanks to the rain.

Princesspollyyy · 08/02/2024 19:01

Family of 5, 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We do approximately 2-4 loads of washing a day, I've stopped using the tumble dryer to save energy.

RudolfsLeftToe · 08/02/2024 19:04

Minimum two washes a day, normally 3. Family of 4 and one dog who still throws up in the car.
Both DC do a sport every night and one day at the weekend, me and DH go to the gym 5 times a week so there’s a lot of muddy / sweaty kits to be washed.
Would love to reduce my washing loads but don’t see how!

DocOck · 08/02/2024 19:05

7 person household, no pets. Average of 1 a day I reckon. Use the dryer October-April.

2/3 washes a day and my washing basket it always full! Two adults and two children

How? And I mean that in the nicest possible way but how can you do 3 full washes a day for just two adults and two children?

zeibesaffron · 08/02/2024 19:27

3 adults, 1 x17 yo plus 2 x dogs- twice a day most days then more at the weekend- dog beds, sofa throws etc..

missshilling · 08/02/2024 19:27

About two a week for the two of us.

goingdownfighting · 08/02/2024 19:32

Family of four. 2 a day. We have work uniforms, kids do a lot of varied sports - kayaking, plus cadet uniforms, sports kits, swimming kits and towels.

Itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 08/02/2024 19:37

I generally do 4-5 a week:

  • 2x clothes (often one gentle wash)
  • 1x bedding
  • 1x towels
  • Miscellaneous if needed
YfenniChristie · 08/02/2024 19:39

So intrigued by threads like these because I can't get my head around doing a wash (or three) every day!

Household of 2 adults and a toddler. We probably do three loads a week - my clothes are one load, DHs work shirts and trousers another, and the third will be DS's things. DH will do a load of his pants and socks every 3 weeks.

Growing up in a household of 6 - 2 adults, 4 kids - all laundry was done on a Friday evening and through Saturday, with Sundays being left for ironing.

mydogisthebest · 08/02/2024 19:53

Just me and DH and 2 dogs. Used to do 1 white wash, 1 dark wash, 1 bedding and 1 towels wash a week. Then the dog duvets every other week.

Bought a new washing machine last year - 12kg. It's brilliant. I can now wash the bedding and towels together weekly and do a white wash and a dark wash fortnightly.

We both have quite a few clothes and wear things, apart from underwear, several times unless, of course, they get dirty.

caringcarer · 08/02/2024 20:03

GingerIsBest · 08/02/2024 14:11

@caringcarer how big is your machine? I have a 9kg machine (massive step up from my old 7kg) and there's no way I could do one load for bedding.

Our bed: King size, cotton duvet cover. 6x pillow cases. 1 x kingsize sheet. 1 x double bed duvet cover
DCs beds: 2 x single sheets, 2x single duvet covers, 4x pillow cases, 1x bolster case.

That's a LOT more than one load right there.

I've got a 9kg too. I have 1 king sized cotton sheet, 1 KS cotton duvet cover, 2 pillowcases plus 1 single duvet, 1 single sheet and 1 pillowcase for DS. I only have 1 DC.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/02/2024 18:48

That's ridiculous. When I had a machine at home and was single it was one load a week.

It’s about the same for me (live alone):

1 x whites
1 x darks
1 x towels (possibly in with darks if space)
1 x bed linen (kings size, 6 pillow cases - will put some in with whites if space)
1 x gym (washed without any softener as it ruins whicking so always washed separately and I work out 6 times a week but do wear leggings twice).

Chipsahoy · 08/02/2024 20:05

Family of five. Two teens and one 5 yr old. Some days one load other days two. Today I did three because I had new sheets to wash, they went on a quick wash. I find uniform is the biggest issue, in holidays then I barely have enough for a load a day. My teen does a lot is sport and in Scotland so this time of year goes through a lot of base layers and hoodies that get dirty and need washing regularly. My five year old has clean uniform every day as he’s still the age to chuck his yogurt down himself every day.

ColdButSunny · 08/02/2024 20:05

Five of us here (2 adults and 3 teens). One wash a day.

Kalevala · 08/02/2024 20:06

intrigued by threads like these because I can't get my head around doing a wash (or three) every day!

I can understand a range of one to two washes per person per week in an average sized machine. More, people, more washing obviously, but I can't get my head around more than a full clothes wash and a towels/bedding wash for one person.

Spaghettieis · 08/02/2024 20:07

DiscoBeat · 08/02/2024 18:46

Family of 4 plus dog. Average of 12 towels twice a week so that's 3 loads on their own! Roughly two loads a day on average.

Are you saying you effectively get through 24 towels a week for 4 people?!?

SameSameButDeliverance · 08/02/2024 20:09

@Kalevala

but I can't get my head around more than a full clothes wash and a towels/bedding wash for one person.

Why? As set out in my post, whites, darks, gym, bedding - all mounts up.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 08/02/2024 20:09

2 adults and a teenager currently at home. We each do our own washing but plus a combined whites wash. Probably 4 or 5 washes a week.

Dinosaurpoo · 08/02/2024 20:10

2 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog and one occasional visit home from uni.
we probably do 10 washes a week. 1
a day and a few extra for bedding changes at the weekend. I only use the dryer for pants, socks and bedding. Everything else goes on the heated airer.
I keep on top of it fine like that. I never seem to keep on top of putting it away - it’s the worst job of adulthood IMO!

user120405 · 08/02/2024 20:11

Two adults one teen rugby playing boy, one dog, two cats.

probably 4 a week. 2 (sometimes 3) at weekends two during the week. We use the tumble dryer in the winter but also use the pulley maid. From spring onwards I mainly line dry

MolkosTeenageAngst · 08/02/2024 20:11

Just me at home, no pets. I probably do 3 washes in a fortnight.

Paw2024 · 08/02/2024 20:14

Trying to think what I wash in a week living alone. It adds up and I don't wash everything after 1 wear

Superking bedding and pillow cases
2 towels
7+ pairs of knickers
2 bras
4 sports bras
2 x sports leggings (wear more than once)
4 gym tops (can only wear once as soaked with sweat)
2/3 pjs
3 pairs of trousers (work)
1 pair jeans
7 tops (daily)
7 pairs of socks
Maybe a blanket/throw/coat/dressing gown
Tea towels, cleaning cloths

In a day I'm wearing
Pjs
Work from home clothes
Gym clothes
