How many machine washes do you do a day?

Family of 6 (and 4 pets) so I do 2 a day minimum and use the dryer unless it's summer.

Each person has a day for their weekly basket of clothes to be washed.
Then there's always another load to do, bedding, towels, pet bedding, cushion covers, coats etc.

Currently two adults, and one cat, although he doesn't count because he doesn't have specific bedding. The odd puked on towel gets hand washed.

One dark, one light, two sets of bedding (we have separate beds) and towels, which is another three, although we alternate 2 weekly changes, so 4/5 a week in a 7kg machine. I hand wash all jumpers and bras, and don't wash things like coats, they get dry cleaned or washed at the cleaners.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 08/02/2024 17:29

Depends how many times you wear clothes before washing. I could do trousers or jumpers 3-4 times. Just underwear and best/t shirt that gets washed after one wear

Kalevala · 08/02/2024 17:29

Two or three a week, family of two and two pets.

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/02/2024 17:30

@UnhealthyCopingStrategies 2 people, no kids. Non manual jobs

Change bed linen and towels once a week. We also have a fair amount of stuff.

I worked out (when we had no washing machine for three weeks - thanks AO!) we can go a fair amount of time before we totally run out of clean stuff. The main pinch point is room to store dirty washing.

MrsMurphyIWish · 08/02/2024 17:32

Family of 4. 3 washes a week and my kids have football 3 x a week and DH and I exercise most days! No dryer.

I’m amazed at all the washing, do you not wear clothes more than once?

SpongeBob2022 · 08/02/2024 17:36

2 adults and 1 child. I would estimate...

5 clothes washes a week (all clothes lumped in together)
1 towel wash a week (including DS's school tops too as they are the only other white things we have)
1 bedding wash a week (rotate between us and DS).

Don't have a drier.

ClementineChoc · 08/02/2024 17:39

It varies but usually something like 8-10 washes a week or 1-2 every other day 😬
2 adults 1 dc in preschool.
So there's bedding for both us and dc every week or 2, our own bedding takes 2 loads. That's 3 washes.
Then there's school uniform and normal kids clothes 2 washes. The odd wash due to accidents a few times a week.
General wash/every day, followed by work clothes, underwear and the odd delicates.
Sofa throws and misc stuff like dressing gowns.
Ugh it just never ends.

I’m impressed/ jealous. What about towels/bedding/sports kit x many/ uniforms/Pe kits/ everyone’s underwear/adults exercise clothes

I juts can’t see how all that goes in to 3 washes. Bedding and towels are 2 washes. Then each person will have at least one wash a week so I’m on 6 without trying.

I do want to cut down but it’s endless..

How does bedding take two loads? I don't have a big washing machine, and mine fits one set of double bedding (sheet, duvet cover, pillow cases), two bath towels, and two face cloths in a load.

C1N1C · 08/02/2024 17:45

1.5 a week.

Two adults

Darks add up about once every two weeks, lights once every two weeks. Whites every two weeks.

Because we have more beds?! Bedding for us is one king size set and two single beds for the DC… some families obviously have more DC or their DC may have doubles.

DeadButDelicious · 08/02/2024 17:54

Family of 3, I do roughly one wash a day as I try not to let it build up, we don't have a tumble dryer so I dry outside as much as possible. Its been very damp wet and miserable round here for the last few weeks however so currently I am reliant on a maiden and dehumidifier set up in the bathroom. It's not an ideal set up but it works, doing smaller loads everyday that I can spread out easily on the maiden means it's usually dry within the day.

The person I quoted said their own bedding took two loads then their child's another one. I have a double, as does my child and I can wash a bed at a time in with the towels. Washing machine is 7kg.

We don’t separate any clothing- wash Thurs to Tuesday’s clothes on a Weds and Weds to Saturday’s clothes Sat afternoon. All bedding and towels on Sunday (1 wash).

When it was just DH and I we would wash once a week.

We don’t own an iron, just strategically hang. We teach so we have very low standards about how we look - everything is crumpled by the end of the day anyway!

Sounds good. I may switch my schedule around. I’ve given up on ironing too. It’s very liberating! I only used to do school shirts and trousers but hang and go now!

I have an 11kg machine @GingerIsBest, it easily takes a super king duvet cover, sheet, and six pillow cases.

Get a new machine!

Wow I am jealous of a 11kg washing machine. Would you recommend yours ?

I think mine is only 7kg.

vincettenoir · 08/02/2024 18:25

Family of 3. Usually 5 to 7 washes a week. I am quite happy to mooch around in yesterday's gym leggings and hoodie a lot of the time.

Favouritefruits · 08/02/2024 18:31

2/3 washes a day and my washing basket it always full! Two adults and two children

hotclogs · 08/02/2024 18:40

3- 4 washes a week, 3 adults and 2 dcs. Washing machine only, line dry indoors with dehumidifier. No ironing.

DiscoBeat · 08/02/2024 18:46

Family of 4 plus dog. Average of 12 towels twice a week so that's 3 loads on their own! Roughly two loads a day on average.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/02/2024 18:46

One double machine in the laundrette every 3 weeks. Live alone.

awitchoftroubleinelectricblue · 08/02/2024 18:47

Family of 4 work no pets. We probably do about 5 loads a week and we don't have a dryer.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/02/2024 18:48

salcombebabe · 08/02/2024 11:59

I’m single and do about 3 or 4 a week depending on bedding and throw. One lights, one darks, one towels and then possibly another one or two every couple of weeks

That's ridiculous. When I had a machine at home and was single it was one load a week.

owlyboo · 08/02/2024 18:50

1 adult 2 children one dog. Averages about 2 washes a day. We only like to wear clothes once / towels twice so lots of washes!

dailyduel · 08/02/2024 18:54

Family of 3. Daily can’t judge but over a week would be

one bath towels
two lots of bedding
one white wash
one pe, gym, rugby, sports wash
three darks for school uniform and our work uniforms

so probably 8 loads a week.
