Do you generally always get a takeaway at the weekend?

We are finding it just getting a little expensive to do every weekend. I'm trying to do little takeaway meals to make it exciting but according to my 15 year old EVERYONE in his class get a takeaway at the weekend. Surely not.

No hardly ever - more likely to go out to eat maybe about once a month .

TigerRag · 03/02/2024 17:30

On!y if I'm away or been to the football which is usually every 4-6 weeks

aitchteeaitch · 03/02/2024 17:32

We sometimes do, or get fish & chips on Friday evening instead. I think we probably have a takeaway every 3 weeks or so.

It is so expensive now, and I often think it isn't really worth it any more. £20-odd quid for fish & chips for two people is starting to get a bit much now.

mathanxiety · 03/02/2024 17:32

No, two or three times a year max (birthday, Mother's Day, emergency).

Unless you can buy a massive takeaway cheaply, and eat leftovers for a week, they're a massively expensive way to eat.

LemonShirts · 03/02/2024 17:33

For years we always got one every weekend. It was a habit DH brought as his parents either got a curry/Chinese every Friday.
At some point though I realised I didn’t actually like them and they make me feel like crap. I think if I lived in a city with more choice I might. We had a great independent Mexican for a while but it closed. But I generally can’t face them, I’d rather cook. We do get fish and chips 2/3 times a year when we don’t want to cook.
I do get DD a GF takeaway pizza every few weeks.

Veryinteresting24 · 03/02/2024 17:33

No, Every 3 or 4 months. The last one we had was a Chinese and no one enjoyed it at all even though we got it from our usual place. We also went out for a pub meal this week and I didn’t enjoy that either. Not worth the expense!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 03/02/2024 17:35

We live in the city centre so eat at a Nando's / Wagamamas type place once a month. Absolutely surrounded by takeaways but never get one because they are expensive and not enjoyable.

SonOfAGoodStrongWoman · 03/02/2024 17:35

No, hardly ever.
I find they are always disappointing so feel I’ve wasted my money.

Teen has occasionally taken to ordering Dominos with friends when they are here, that’s usually after eating dinner too!

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 03/02/2024 17:35

I think supermarkets have things that are just as nice, like Charlie Bingham or crosta mollica (sp). If you have an air fryer spring rolls, onion bahjis and so on are good. This way it's cheaper and you know it will be hot ! I hate a cold takeaway.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 03/02/2024 17:36

No, hardly ever. Occasionally when we are on holiday but I'd usually rather just have something quick like beans on toast.

I can think of plenty of things I would rather spend money on but each to their own.

Polis · 03/02/2024 17:36

Rarely at all. We might do it more often if there were any near where we live, but it certainly wouldn’t be every weekend. Probably not even every month.

Underthesea65 · 03/02/2024 17:37

No, but treating myself tonight as from tomorrow I'm on a liquid only diet for a week due to tests and procedure next Sunday

Mimami · 03/02/2024 17:38

No but we may have shop bought pizza or some other sort of ready meal,

Perrie80 · 03/02/2024 17:38

Nope. Not here Saturdays nights we always have things like Fahitas, nachos or something like that.
Occasionally get a takeaway for special treat or birthday.

ThursdayTomorrow · 03/02/2024 17:41

No! That’s crazy expensive. Take aways are rare treat, maybe 3 times a year. They are really unhealthy too.
OP why are you even thinking that a 15 year old would be one in the know here? It’s your house and your money.

New2024 · 03/02/2024 17:41

No, more likely to on a week day. It’s usually something the DC (grown up) and I do if hubbie is away or out on a business dinner and we feel like splashing out. The DH can’t eat takeaway curry or Chinese food because it disagrees with him, so that’s the reasoning

AdoraBell · 03/02/2024 17:42

Almost never as we now live in a rural village. There is a good Indian restaurant, they do takeaway but we usually go there to eat in the restaurant.

TheSnowyOwl · 03/02/2024 17:43

Usually a takeaway on a Friday, eat out on Saturday (or vice versa) and brunch/roast out on Sunday.

eldorado02 · 03/02/2024 17:43

We either cook at home or eat out; rarely get a takeaway. Maybe four times a year?

TeenLifeMum · 03/02/2024 17:43

No! We did last weekend (pay day and I was exhausted) and it cost £80 for the 5 of us. Definitely not a weekly thing here. However, i know many families who do. Not sure how they afford it.

rainbowsparkle28 · 03/02/2024 17:44

No it's an occasional treat (not exactly cheap especially these days! 😂) but might sometimes pick up a ready meal curry or something or pizzas something easy if can't be bothered cooking but still a lot cheaper then takeaway!

Topseyt123 · 03/02/2024 17:44

Yes, Saturday night is fish and chips night in our house.

I cook the fish fingers on the grill at home and do some baked beans or mushy peas in the microwave while DH trots along to the chippy (just 5 minutes walk away) for the chips. That way it isn't too expensive.

We do like the odd curry and there is a good local restaurant which does takeaway but that is a much more expensive option, so I guess we only do that two or three times a year.

About 2 or 3 x a year.

jarpotato · 03/02/2024 17:45

Across a year, we probably have a Chinese 3 times, fish and chips a handful of times for lunch on beach days and McDonald's maybe every 6 weeks or so for as the teen enjoys it. Rest of the time we make curry at home or have a supermarket pizza!

thaegumathteth · 03/02/2024 17:46

No. Probably once a month.
