Do you generally always get a takeaway at the weekend?

We are finding it just getting a little expensive to do every weekend. I'm trying to do little takeaway meals to make it exciting but according to my 15 year old EVERYONE in his class get a takeaway at the weekend. Surely not.

Every weekend?! No. Maybe every 4-6 weeks. Your 15 year-old is just doing what kids do - 'But mum, EVERYONE has/does X,Y or Z'. Yeah right!

EmpressSoleil · 03/02/2024 17:13

I might get a takeaway 2-3 times a month but not specifically at the weekend. Just when I fancy it.

Teens always say "everyone else" gets whatever it is they want. It's as old as time and never true.

Takeaways are quite over priced now, especially if it's to feed a family. I buy for just me and even balk at the cost of that sometimes. Don't give in to the pressure.

Letterbix · 03/02/2024 17:15

We have "nice food night" every weekend. Depends on our budget. It might be oven pizzas, or Morleys chicken, it might be a take away curry or just posh sandwiches and cake.

mynameiscalypso · 03/02/2024 17:16

We're much more likely to get one during the week when we're busy/tired. Maybe once every 6/8 weeks?

StarDolphins · 03/02/2024 17:16

We never get takeaway. We do go to Pizza express/Wetherspoons every couple of weeks though & teas on weekends are more lazy (pizza, ready made curry etc).

Going out is cheaper/same as takeaway near me.

Runskiyoga · 03/02/2024 17:16

We used to do once a month when the children were teens, more often felt a bit expensive and unhealthy, although lunch or coffee out was fairly frequent and probably not great either! Often had fajitas, nachos, pizza or curry home prepared. Didn't really do MaccyDs or KFC either. Now takeaway is more once in a blue moon.

JesusAndMaryPain · 03/02/2024 17:16

Nope. I agree too expensive. We are saving for our holiday!

Spendonsend · 03/02/2024 17:17

Once a month here. Maybe a little longer.

Pacifybull · 03/02/2024 17:17

No, maybe once a year!

GaryLucyusedtobemycrush · 03/02/2024 17:19

I can’t remember the last time we had one. The kids will occasionally use their own money to order KFC or something.

Zoflorabore · 03/02/2024 17:21

We tend to order one on payday as a family purely to give me a night off from cooking sometimes 4 different meals as I have a house of fussy eaters and one with ARFID.

mine are almost 21 and 13 and my eldest orders a couple of times a week and will often offer his little sister something and she often takes him up on it. It’s too bloody easy these days with just eat/Uber eats etc and it’s his money but it often annoys me when we’ve got plenty of food in the house already.

Parker231 · 03/02/2024 17:21

No - because we rarely like them - but we go out for dinner on Saturday evening and brunch on Sunday.

canthelpitt · 03/02/2024 17:21

Yes usually we do. Occasionally twice a week. We are trying to cut back though and having a 'nicer' tea at the weekend instead. Still end up with a MacDonald's or something at the weekend when going from club to club. Our neighbours seem to get a few deliveries a week too.

DoILookThrilled · 03/02/2024 17:22

No, sadly not. Would love to but everything is so expensive

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/02/2024 17:23

Nope. We usually cook something 'nice' at the weekend though.

Steedness · 03/02/2024 17:23

Yes

Midnlghtrain · 03/02/2024 17:24

Yes 😂 my kitchen closes at lunch on a Friday, between then and the Sunday roast each meal is either eaten out at a restaurant or a takeaway!

weegiemum · 03/02/2024 17:25

We usually do on a Friday. There's usually enough left over for Saturday too.

Pumpkinpie1 · 03/02/2024 17:25

No too expensive. Homemade tastes much nicer anyway

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/02/2024 17:26

No. We have a takeaway on birthdays (if not going out for dinner) and hardly ever otherwise. Maybe 4 or 5 a year?

At the weekends one or other of us generally has time to cooker a nicer dinner like a roast or casserole or just something a bit fancy.

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 03/02/2024 17:26

We used to do it every weekend pre kids and pre my coeliac diagnosis. Those were the days!

We probably have it once a month, maybe every 2 months.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 03/02/2024 17:26

My son gets something delivered every weekend and several times during the week. If he wants something, then he just orders it and pays for it himself out of
his wages. Does your son have a job ?. I imagine most of his friends do order takeaway most weekends, and they probably pay for it themselves.

shreknjumps · 03/02/2024 17:26

We eat out more than getting takeaways. Probably takeaway every 3 weeks but eat out every week at least once. In the past week I've had 2 pub meals and I'm currently sitting in McDonald's 🤣

FaiIureToLunch · 03/02/2024 17:27

Every three months or so, but it comes in at £70 it’s an amazing curry and only for treats

Trulyme · 03/02/2024 17:27

I don’t have takeaways that deliver near me, so I don’t get them often.

Its usually around every 2 months which includes McDonald’s.

We tend to get a treat tea like pizza and ice cream from the supermarket.

Yesterday we just had sausage and mash.
