Do you generally always get a takeaway at the weekend?

We are finding it just getting a little expensive to do every weekend. I'm trying to do little takeaway meals to make it exciting but according to my 15 year old EVERYONE in his class get a takeaway at the weekend. Surely not.

No we rarely get takeaways.

Beautiful3 · 03/02/2024 21:07

No, I could never afford to do that. We have one after Christmas, and someone's birthday (unless they want to eat out)

Good point. Am in a big city also, probably makes all the difference choice and quality-wise.

Same here - 'near' a big city.
When I lived in a more rural area choices were limited and disappointing.

Metallicant · 03/02/2024 21:15

We very rarely have them. Once every few months.

we live rurally so our only options are from visiting burger and pizza vans. Both are nice enough but I’m rarely free on the days and times they visit our village.

WorkCleanRepeat · 03/02/2024 21:20

We usually either go to a restaurant or have a takeaway once over the weekend.

DyslexicPoster · 03/02/2024 21:20

I wish, we can't offord too. We did a part cook part takeaway Chinese last night and it was £36 for four noodles, prawn crackers and mini spring rolls. I think we need to try find some really good supermarket options.

lifeispainauchocolat · 03/02/2024 21:23

Yeah, most weekends but they're pretty cheap around here.

Fish and chips for two is only £16.

Previousreligion · 03/02/2024 21:24

Almost never. We rarely did anyway, but since cutting down on UPF tbh my desire for takeaway has plummeted anyway.

Coffeeebean · 03/02/2024 21:27

We tend to have 1 takeaway and 1 meal out per week (the meal out is usually brunch)

The takeaway rotates between sushi, pizza and indian.

DH and i also buy 'takeaway' lunches 3 times a week when in the office (leon, itsu etc) as cant be dealing with the faff of commuting with a packed lunch!

Portakalkedi · 03/02/2024 21:30

Never get takeaways! Would consider it only in a dire emergency if I had no other food and no transport to shops.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 03/02/2024 21:31

Nope, I'd say 4 times a year on average. Two of those on our main holiday of the year.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 03/02/2024 21:33

My DC have happy meals on a Friday but that's it, we don't have proper takeaway dinners. It's too expensive!

missymousey · 03/02/2024 21:34

No! Maybe once or twice a year. We have enough money that I suppose we could, but would rather not blow so much money on forgettable meals.

TempyBrennan · 03/02/2024 21:35

Used to be every weekend but it got expensive, then every other weekend and now trying to stretch that even further to monthly!

BurbageBrook · 03/02/2024 21:37

We're more likely to do it mid-week (every couple of weeks) as our local takeaways have cheaper deals for mid-week.

hotpotlover · 03/02/2024 21:54

No - we have had plenty of takeaways in the past, but prefer home cooked meals now.

We find takeaways quite bland and often too salty and regret afterwards spending so much money on it.

Wexone · 03/02/2024 22:01

yes it's our treat every sat night unless we are out. in fairness though its a large curry and a small side between 2 or a burger each and we share a bag of chips. so that keeps the cost to 20e. it's worth it to me.

LadyChilli · 03/02/2024 22:08

I love a takeaway. I used to get one most weeks but can't afford it now. I'm also conscious that when DS is with his dad he eats a lot of processed and beige food so feel the need to over compensate by providing as much home cooked healthy food as possible. We do things like home made pizza instead. I've recently perfected restaurant style curry too. Takeaway maybe once every couple of months now, at most.

I actually love taking DS out for meals now he's a bit older, and find the price no different to takeaways these days so would make cutbacks elsewhere to do that instead, but again feel the need to make meals as healthy and unprocessed as possible so that holds me back.

InSpainTheRain · 03/02/2024 22:27

Yes, every Friday evening. Sometimes in the week too if I have too much work to do. Usually try to make the mid week one healthy though

Jook · 03/02/2024 22:28

Not any more. I do fish and chips in the air fryer on a Saturday instead.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/02/2024 22:30

Almost never. We rarely did anyway, but since cutting down on UPF tbh my desire for takeaway has plummeted anyway.

We virtually only ever have takeaway curry. Often vegeyable curry these days. I'm not sure if that's particularly UPF tbh.

YouBelongWithMe · 03/02/2024 22:30

No, a payday treat, so once a month. Unless DH wins the golf money, and then he'll spend it on a treat takeaway.

Bemyclementine · 03/02/2024 22:31

No, never. I can't afford it currently but even when I could I didn't. Its just not something I've ever done.

girlfriend44 · 03/02/2024 22:35

No. Cook our own food. Cheaper and better.
No waiting for good to arrive no wondering whether it's going to be warm?

Radiatorvalves · 03/02/2024 22:36

No. Probably every 6/8 weeks?
