Do you generally always get a takeaway at the weekend?

We are finding it just getting a little expensive to do every weekend. I'm trying to do little takeaway meals to make it exciting but according to my 15 year old EVERYONE in his class get a takeaway at the weekend. Surely not.

Ours is every Thursday. My eldest’s least favourite day and gets me to the end of the working week when I’m too tired to want to be cooking. It is expensive but we spend little money on other activities and we all look forward to it

Lovelydovey · 03/02/2024 18:42

Nope - maybe 2-3 times a year. We also eat out probably once a month or so.

Too expensive to have a takeaway more often and a lot of the time I can cook it as well at home.

Ponderingwindow · 03/02/2024 18:43

yes. We also get proper restaurant meals to go on occasion. Our budget allows for it and I hate cooking.

mitogoshi · 03/02/2024 18:45

No, very rarely, either cook or go out to eat. I admit we tend to eat out once over the weekend but that is often Sunday lunch as we often visit dsd (has sn, it's her favourite thing).

When kids were teens it was less than now

LauderSyme · 03/02/2024 18:45

We have takeaway about once, maximum twice, per year.

Sometimes I think what a treat it would be but a/. it's rarely as terrific as I imagined it would be and b/. how much?! I could feed us for several days with that!

We do have a Chinese take away about every 3 weeks , it’s actually a really decent place. I’m Chinese and the owner is my friend so I get a bit of a discount. I have only ever had take away pizza twice in my life it just seems such a rip off. There is a fab curry house in my town where you can take your own alcohol . For poppadoms, a starter and a main with rice and naan it’s £25 each so we go there with friends about once a month as it’s not much more than some take aways and the owner who is a mate of a mate also gives me free soft drinks now because I have taken quite a few people there. My other mate owns a cafe that serves English and Chinese food and gives me free cake if I have lunch there.

Fabricwitch · 03/02/2024 18:49

No we prefer to get one during the week when we're too busy to cook. There's normally discounts on during the week too, and it comes faster. We tend to get one every second week at the moment but are trying to reduce this.

mitogoshi · 03/02/2024 18:50

Personally I prefer eating out anyway, I'd rather quality rather than quantity with that too - last time we had takeaway was when both DD's boyfriends were unexpectedly here for tea!

CandiceEatsCandiez · 03/02/2024 18:52

Not anymore!

We ended that mostly because it was getting out of control and everyone was getting fat but also the kids taking photos of the food and posting them on tiktok then only eat half anyway of it!??

NecessaryNC24 · 03/02/2024 18:53

Where are people getting these rubbish takeaways ? It's not hard to find good ones with apps like Deliveroo.

I took a chance with a new Indian last time and it was I think, the best curry I've ever had.

mommatoone · 03/02/2024 18:53

Yes, we used to do this. But with the cost and the fact that we generally order the same thing each time (boring), we only have one once a month If that. Our favourite is Chinese, I have started making my own after following a lady on IG who makes the nicest meals. Really simple & cheap.

Restinpeacefavouritecoathanger · 03/02/2024 18:54

Fairly often we order a pizza when dominos etc have a good discount on can get a large pizza between us for not a massive amount more than a frozen one and it's a lot nicer.

Chinese or Indian occasionally, more often in the past but now I'm handing over best part of £30 it feels too much.
We get quite a lot of takeaway coffee though ... Toddler life.

Lantyslee · 03/02/2024 18:55

No we only have them on birthdays so 4/5 times per year and we don't eat out either. It's too expensive.

OldTinHat · 03/02/2024 18:55

No. Too expensive.

thatneverhappened · 03/02/2024 18:58

Honestly, it's a habit we started during Covid to support our favourite (non chain) restaurants to get them through and it has persisted. I've asked the family to choose a fake away from the pinch of nom books but they say they won't be as good. Since we can afford it I keep doing it but I really do need to put my foot down soon

mamaduckbone · 03/02/2024 18:58

Very rarely - we had pizza last night but that was our first takeaway since before Christmas. Too expensive and unhealthy.

Every Saturday night

Only for the last 6 months though

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/02/2024 19:03

Take aways only on birthdays and sometimes on holiday.

Pizzas once a month or so - supermarket or home made.

We very rarely eat out. We are essentially now 5 adults supported by 1.8 incomes.

Lemonademoney · 03/02/2024 19:03

We probably only have a takeaway every couple of months but we do go for a pub tea once a month (which I prefer).

RoseMarigoldViolet · 03/02/2024 19:03

No, we never get one.

AngelinaFibres · 03/02/2024 19:04

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 03/02/2024 17:10

We can't get food delivered here, we'd have to drive 8 miles to the nearest town to collect and we can't be bothered. So no, we never have takeaway.

This.

Thudercatsrule · 03/02/2024 19:05

We get takeaway at least once a week - kids love it and saves me cooking!

ZippyZappyZoo · 03/02/2024 19:05

No. Never!

100Bees · 03/02/2024 19:07

We probably get 2 a week on average. We live in a bog city so it's more like getting restaurant food delivered than a big standard Chinese. It's expensive but we can afford it.
