Omg I have Been find 400 for for tipping 250 if I pay within 10 days .

This would have been during in my time of struggling badly with my house and the state it was in my bins getting over full and really struggling with everything really badly.

I know I should not have done it but I was struggling. As far as I know they are talking about a couple of bits I took to the communal bins . ( they don't belong to me house) but to the flats behinde me. I couldn't get the bits in the bin. So I left them next to the bin. They would have been bits of wood from a unit i think .

Nobadvice except to say that's ridiculous. Why so much ? Even a speeding fine is only £100. No advice im.afraid . Can you ring up and grovel a bit? please poverty ?

LakeTiticaca · 20/01/2024 11:58

How do they know it was you?

Shamefullhouse · 20/01/2024 12:08

I just released there's pictures I'm gonna put them up and explain

That's a lot of money, however if I can offer another perspective....in the close where I live, there are a few houses (shared ownership) who have their own bins, and then rented flats who have communal bins. All housing association owned.
The houses don't have access to the locked bin store.

From time to time people from the flats flytip by leaving large stuff next to the communal bin store,.it inside it and then the council drag it out so they can get the bins out to empty them.

The entire close gets charged to get the flytipped stuff taken away through our service charges (they are itemised to show the amount for flytipped rubbish clearance the previous year).

Everyone else pays £35 to get the council to come and pick up large items, so why can't the people in the flats do the same? We also then have to pay for the cost of clearing other people's flytipping because they didn't want to pay £35.

So whilst the fine is large, it is a deterrent from a situation where everyone else has to pay extra to clear someone else's rubbish.

pickledandpuzzled · 20/01/2024 12:12

That’s really bad luck, @Shamefullhouse I know someone fined similarly for putting a child’s scooter at their own gate with a sign saying ’free’.

Don't panic. Ring the issuer and ask if they have any leeway. Say you didn’t realise it was an issue. Explain your circumstances and ask whether they can waive it or if you can pay in instalments as you simply don’t have the money.

Hwory · 20/01/2024 12:18

As someone who also lives in flats with a communal bin it’s a struggle having people in the area dumping all sorts of rubbish in the bin and if it’s full then leaving it next to the bin which makes our property look a mess.

We also get charged (via a service charge) when the rubbish has to be disposed separately. I’ve paid lots of money for other peoples fly tipping.

Shamefullhouse · 20/01/2024 12:20

Oops did not mean to post . Anyway I have found photos. Which I will explain . I did do some of it but mot all . The green bin you can see in the photo. You see the big box I had put lots of cardboard in that box . Which the council had put all over the floor I guess to look for my address. But its made it seem like I scattered it all over the infact it was in the one box with the rest of the card inside.

All the carpet etc you can see has nothing to do with me. How ever I did out the fee bits of flat wood there.

Forgot to say the Xmas tree. Grey box I had put in the communal bin they went in properly not hanging out or anything.

The pic that you cam see like a green bag bot of a bedframe is I'm my front garden waiting for me to sort it. How can i fly tip my own garden ?

So it seens my address was on a box and they decided I did the whole lot. Maybe that don't maje a difference maybe weather its 1 it or 50 its the same fine.

When I went on line it said we understand paying a fixed penalty fine can be stressful . So i though maybe there a payment plan. But no

In fairness a good amount of that crap was yours even if not all of it. You've admitted you fly tipped. As someone who's street and garden used to get fly tipped at an old address it's miserable. Really made me feel crappy and worthless and we got rats. People don't realise the effect and it drags down an area.

You were struggling and you did something selfish. It sounds like you're in a much more positive place now and will learn from it and move on.

It's a shame they won't let you pay in instalments. Is it from local council? I would phone then and ask for an option to pay in smaller amounts.
Don't ignore it though they can take you to court!

RoachFish · 20/01/2024 12:26

Wow, 400 is a huge amount but I understand tipping is a big problem so they probably have to act that way for people to take it seriously. I hope it won’t prevent you from carrying on with your home improvements and clearing. Maybe check what you council charge for a bulky waste collection and arrange one or two of those.

I do get your point. But a few people from the flats have said irs ok ttk use the bins. I has actually putt all the stuff (inside) the bins. Apart from that big box as I could not get it in abs environmental took alm the card out . Which makes it look worth . Everything else was in the bin. Ad I said I get yoir point though

FuckingHellAdele · 20/01/2024 12:31

Well I can see why they are fining, who wants to look at that unsightly crap.

Are they communal bins for you and your neighbours use, or for another building? (sorry it's not 100% clear)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but you should have arranged and paid for a council collection, or stored it unto you could get it in your own bins, bit by bit

OpalOrchid · 20/01/2024 12:32

Ring the council and ask if you can pay off the fine in installments. I can see why they classed it as fly tipping.

I have managed to find an email it was on the letter . But I felt strayed and did not see it so I'm going to email and explain our whole situation

OP posts:
OpalOrchid · 20/01/2024 12:34

And yes, have a look at how much your council charge for bulky rubbish collection. Here it's free but I understand some councils charge, but it will be cheaper than a 400 quid fine!

GreatGateauxsby · 20/01/2024 12:35

Jesus Christ those pictures....😱😱😱
I think you have to pay.

I'd call monday so it's £250 and arrange to pay in installments.

In future, it's worth googling as most boroughs have dumps/ recycling centres where you can take things like this. Even if you hire a man in a van it's about £50 Vs the £250 fine you are facing here....

ManchesterBea · 20/01/2024 12:36

Having seen the pictures, pay up! Try to get instalments if needed but that's a lot of tipping.

SquashPenguin · 20/01/2024 12:36

Having lived in a block of flats previously where people would drive in and dump their shit, it was seriously annoying. Why did our car park have to look a mess? We have a mountain of stuff in my own front garden from renovation works I have going on at the moment. I wouldn’t dream of dumping it in someone else’s living space. We’re getting a skip and taking the rest to the tip.

Fly tipping has huge fines for a reason. Why should anyone else wants to pay for your rubbish to be taken away?

IWFH · 20/01/2024 12:37

We live on a street which is regularly used for fly tipping and it is very unpleasant to be at the receiving end of it. (We've even had the road blocked by other people's waste before). Your rubbish looks like trade waste which is I expect why you've been fined. I'm afraid I have no sympathy for you. Take your rubbish to the tip next time.

A well deserved fine! Who would think that’s acceptable??? If you can’t afford it ask if you can pay in instalments. I can’t believe you thought that was acceptable.

spanishviola · 20/01/2024 12:39

The bin men in my borough won’t take that sort of stuff away. If yours is the same then it was never going to get collected in a general rubbish collection. You have pay the council to take it away, not too expensive in my area. You will probably have to pay though I agree it is a lot of money to find.

OpalOrchid · 20/01/2024 12:40

Does your council not provide bags or bins for cardboard recycling? I would have broken the cardboard boxes down and put them in a recycling bag for the recycling lorry to collect.

hotginbottle · 20/01/2024 12:41

Your best shot is phoning Monday to pay at £250 and asking for instalments.
If you email to 'explain' its needs to be a whole lot clearer than your post above

Name081 · 20/01/2024 12:41

You’re only feeling sorry for yourself because you’ve been caught. There is not a single excuse for fly tipping or dumping rubbish ever. Just keep it in your own house until you are able to get rid of it properly, instead you decided to dump it in the most convenient place you can find and make it someone else’s problem. Not a shred of sympathy from me.

This isn't all bin stuff, most of this should be taken to a tip. So it shouldn't be just left around.

I know I get that the pictures are not what they seem though. Environmental have pulled stuff out of the bins and made the photos look worse the only thing bi can see totally clearly I done wrong was the white bits of wood .

The big card board Box had all the smaller bits of card inside Environmental have tipped it outturn taken a photos . The Xmas tree grey Box was in the actual bin. The pic with the greeny bag and broken head board is in my own garden.

I get what quotes saying 250 vs cost of collection. But its 60.00 for 3 items . I don't get how that works really its confusing its not like I had say a bed, chest of drawers and a coffee table. It was stuff. The tip I have no way of getting to
