Omg I have Been find 400 for for tipping 250 if I pay within 10 days .

This would have been during in my time of struggling badly with my house and the state it was in my bins getting over full and really struggling with everything really badly.

I know I should not have done it but I was struggling. As far as I know they are talking about a couple of bits I took to the communal bins . ( they don't belong to me house) but to the flats behinde me. I couldn't get the bits in the bin. So I left them next to the bin. They would have been bits of wood from a unit i think .

You have committed a crime and have been fined for it. You need to pay it.

Shamefullhouse · 20/01/2024 12:30

I do get your point. But a few people from the flats have said irs ok ttk use the bins. I has actually putt all the stuff (inside) the bins. Apart from that big box as I could not get it in abs environmental took alm the card out . Which makes it look worth . Everything else was in the bin. Ad I said I get yoir point though

How on earth was “everything in the bin”? They wouldn’t have torn the bin’s contents apart to see if it was all legitimately from the flat’s tenants?!

YouveGotAFastCar · 20/01/2024 12:45

Bin men don't usually take bits of furniture/wood like that - you have to order a special collection, and there's a charge. It's £45 for one thing or £90 for up to 6 here - so none of that would have been collected.

But a few people from the flats have said irs ok ttk use the bins.

That's irrelevant too, sadly. They were probably trying to be nice, but it's not their call to make, even if they own their flat. The bin store is communal and would need everyone to consent, and typically leasehold agreements forbid you from allowing other people to use the facilities if they're not resident.

The fine is big because when it was £100 and then £200, it wasn't enough of a deterrent. £400 is. Contact them on Monday and see if they can accept any type of payment plan.

fishesdrivecars678 · 20/01/2024 12:45

You need to appeal and tell them you were removing rubbish which had been previously fly tipped by someone else.

Just tell them that there is no way you should be fined for doing the council a favour by removing it. The fine is not yours and right in the middle of a cost of living crisis.

Just stand your ground with them without saying you were in a bad way, just in case they use your MH as a way to get at you it's almost like accepting the blame.

I have managed to find an email it was on the letter . But I felt strayed and did not see it so I'm going to email and explain our whole situation

What situation? How are you going to make flytipping that load of crap sound like a reasonable thing to do?

No, she really doesn't.

They are communal bins. There is quite possibly cameras around which will show that it is her rubbish. She'd be guilty of far worse crimes if she's caught lying.

The Amazon boxes would have her name and address on.

I know I get that the pictures are not what they seem though. Environmental have pulled stuff out of the bins and made the photos look worse the only thing bi can see totally clearly I done wrong was the white bits of wood .

The big card board Box had all the smaller bits of card inside Environmental have tipped it outturn taken a photos . The Xmas tree grey Box was in the actual bin. The pic with the greeny bag and broken head board is in my own garden.

I get what quotes saying 250 vs cost of collection. But its 60.00 for 3 items . I don't get how that works really its confusing its not like I had say a bed, chest of drawers and a coffee table. It was stuff. The tip I have no way of getting to

You said yourself that you dumped it in another flats communal bin that is not at your property/does not belong to you. So even if it was ‘in the actual bin’ you have still dumped it there without permission!

The council will offer a service that won’t cost much to collect your large items if you can’t get to the tip. No excuse.

What does this mean? In what way was she doing the council a favour by “removing” stuff?

Come on now, it's one thing having a messy home- that only affects you and your family. Making a mess of the streets and roads that we all have to live in and look at is unacceptable, sorry. If it doesn't fit in the bin, take it home.

So lie about it and fuck the cost to the council?

Really great advice 😲.

Shortbreadfingerss · 20/01/2024 12:49

In your first post it sounded like you had been hard done by but from the photos it does look like a big pile of crap that you’ve dumped to try and make someone else’s problem. As pp have said, most people can’t put items like that in their bin and have to take it to the tip or pay someone else to dispose of it. I think you’ll need to pay up and ask for an instalment plan. Flytipping is absolutely despicable, hopefully you won’t do it again!

mrsbyers · 20/01/2024 12:49

Think of it from the rubbish collectors side that rubbish could have a used needle in it which is why we should only use bins

candaby653 · 20/01/2024 12:49

I've lived in flats with communal bins before. This time of year is terrible for people dumping rubbish.

There is no excuse. Don't try and make one. Ring up and apologise and ask to pay the £250 in instalments.

Holidayhell22 · 20/01/2024 12:50

I recently paid the builder to remove waste from my house which I couldn’t fit in my bin. Next time do the same or pay the council to collect it.
I would have rather spent that money on myself but fly tipping is unacceptable.

janicegarvey · 20/01/2024 12:52

Oh my god I've done this times 😳😳

We're a family of 5 and our bin is tiny and they only collect fortnightly . We honestly recycle as much as humanly possible but still end up with them both full before collection - Our council is absolutely shit

So we've got two communal bins on a green near our house and I wait til it's dark and get rid of a couple of small bin bags

On a side note - how sad and pathetic would someone need to be to take pics and grass you up. Some people have absolutely no lives

Hiddenvoice · 20/01/2024 12:54

I think you’ll have to pay the lower fine. It’s fine that the residents say you can use their bins but these are items that shouldn’t be binned and instead taken to the dump or pay for collection.
I understand you were going through a hard time and needed it out of the house but sadly not the right way to go around it.
Seems likely that a resident phoned environmental health to complain about the state of the bins and surrounding area and you’ve left personalised details on the rubbish so they are blaming you for all of it.

AnxiousPangolin · 20/01/2024 12:55

I’m afraid I don’t have much sympathy. As numerous other posters have pointed out, communal bins are plagued with fly tipping and those of us who end up paying for it to be removed get pretty sick of it. You must have known you shouldn’t be leaving it there.

Have you got any outside help? The fact you repeatedly post these threads saying you can’t cope, and post many photos which show that no-one in your house appears to be able to do anything other than drop stuff on the floor when they’ve finished with it suggests you need some assistance.

HalloumiGeller · 20/01/2024 12:55

I'm sorry, but as someone who used to live in a flat with communal bins, this is annoying as hell and they are right to charge you.

If you have no transport to take it to the tip yourself then you need to hire a person with a waste disposal license to dispose of it properly (which i have done many times) which would have been a LOT cheaper. Let this be a lesson learnt.

DeeLusional · 20/01/2024 12:58

The flats' bins aren't yours and were probably full because other people not from the flats used them as well. And you have a garden, keep your rubbish in your own garden till you can dispose of it properly.

Whataretheodds · 20/01/2024 12:58

Fly tipping is a menace.

I just arranged a bulky waste collection with the council. They come weekly and it cost me £20 for 2 items. Extras would have been another £9.

Stuff that was good enough to resell I arranged a charity to collect, and gave a chunk away on freecycle/Olio/facebook.

There isn't really any excuse for fly tipping. Every time one person does it, it encourages others.

Call and see if you can pay an installment on the £250 within 10 days and the remainder over a longer period.

Kangaboo · 20/01/2024 12:59

you owe £250 fair and square, set up a payment plan. You have the money to buy the goods but not to find a way to properly dispose of packaging? That’s bollocks, it’s just your priorities!

Using other people’s bins is not ok. If people do this under the cover of darkness you already know it’s not right.

Why is it that the default comeback of these delightful rubbish dumping folk
always ‘get a life’ 😂

Says the person scurrying around in the pitch black to dump a few bin bags down the road

Andherewegoagain24 · 20/01/2024 13:00

Perhaps next time you'll take stuff to the tip or pay council to take it away. I'm glad fly tippers are fined. It's abhorrent.

Spicybeanburger · 20/01/2024 13:02

While I understand you were struggling with your mental health and I've been there. I do think you do have to face the consequences of just dumping stuff. I do think council removal is very expensive and it's unfair to people who don't have cars to go to the tip. The fine is also very high!

But the current system is what it is and if we all just dumped stuff that wouldn't fir in our bins everywhere would be a mess.
