I have fucked up badly

Shamefullhouse · 20/01/2024 11:44

Omg I have Been find 400 for for tipping 250 if I pay within 10 days .

This would have been during in my time of struggling badly with my house and the state it was in my bins getting over full and really struggling with everything really badly.

I know I should not have done it but I was struggling. As far as I know they are talking about a couple of bits I took to the communal bins . ( they don't belong to me house) but to the flats behinde me. I couldn't get the bits in the bin. So I left them next to the bin. They would have been bits of wood from a unit i think .

OP posts:
Devilshands · 20/01/2024 13:42

I get what quotes saying 250 vs cost of collection. But its 60.00 for 3 items . I don't get how that works really its confusing its not like I had say a bed, chest of drawers and a coffee table. It was stuff. The tip I have no way of getting to

There are people all over the country who can't get to the tip. They ask people to come around and take their shit away - and most of the time it's not expensive.

You can say all day 'they've made it look worse,' but I doubt it looked much better before. One box with a shit tone of crap inside is no better than the crap being all over the street IMO. Fly tipping is fly tipping. You dumped your crap in someone else's bins ffs!

You need to 100% own this and pay OP.

Edit: And just to add to other PPs, we all have shit going on in our own lives. We don't just dump our waste in other peoples bins. Having a rough time is not an excuse for fly-tipping.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/01/2024 13:43

My local council does 'bulky waste' collections for free for people in receipt of certain benefits. I don't know your financial situation, OP, but for future reference that may be worth checking out. If you aren't eligible for that scheme, the cost is a fraction of the penalty you've incurred this time.

fishesdrivecars678 · 20/01/2024 12:45

You need to appeal and tell them you were removing rubbish which had been previously fly tipped by someone else.

Just tell them that there is no way you should be fined for doing the council a favour by removing it. The fine is not yours and right in the middle of a cost of living crisis.

Just stand your ground with them without saying you were in a bad way, just in case they use your MH as a way to get at you it's almost like accepting the blame.

I hear these cases in court and without any evidence to back that up, and the fact that HER address was on the rubbish would mean I’d be unlikely to accept this story. Then she’d have to pay the £400 plus legal costs, which aren’t uncommon to be £500+

thestringcheesemassacre · 20/01/2024 13:46

I work for a landlord and we have to pay to have this removed each and every time it happens. It prevents the council rubbish team collecting the bins and everyone in the flats then suffers as they have nowhere to put their rubbish and dump stuff everywhere.

unfortunately the cost is about right here.

is a tough lesson but maybe they will give you a payment plan.

theduchessofspork · 20/01/2024 13:46

It’s a lot but if you added to that mess (I realise it’s not all yours) then I think it’s understandable because the bins are being badly managed. If everything was tidy but the bin was full so you’d put a couple things on the side, it’s quite possible they’d have let it go.

In this case you should have kept the stuff inside your house till there was space, so it was inconsiderate.

Give them a ring on Monday, you should able to negotiate instalments.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 20/01/2024 13:46

Re paying someone to take it away. Please make sure that whoever you are paying for this service is actually licensed to do so and has a good reputation. There are so many cowboys on Facebook, next door & gumtree etc advertising 'man with a van' cheap waste disposal but it gets fly tipped and can often be traced back to the customer (who then gets fined). Even if it isn't traceable, it is your moral duty to make sure your waste is being disposed of responsibly.

If you do email them, I recommend you post your message here for help editing before sending.

Your writing is difficult to understand and that will not help your case.

AwkwardOldBag · 20/01/2024 13:49

Contact them Monday morning, calmly. See what you can sort out.

PianoBobble · 20/01/2024 13:51

Hi OP, it’s clear there is a lot of instability in your life. But step back from that; don’t put everything together. It’s not like you can get away with killing someone cos they pissed you off cos you’re having a hard time.

Similarly with fly tipping. It’s against the law.

I’m wondering if you could call the council and explain the situation, keep it non emotional and focus on the fly tipping. Explain how you had consent regarding certain parts of it, then talk through how to pay the fine. Good luck.

I work for a local council, for a team that gets sent out to pick up fly-tipping. Do you realise that this type of fly-tipping is classed as a fire risk?

Do you realise that in some areas this type of fly-tipping can get set alight, intentionally or accidentally. Its immediately next to where people live.

My teams get pulled off their normal rounds to collect fly-tipping from council flats. its a serious issue.

The teams then have to take the fly-tipping to the baling plant. The baling plant then charge back to us based on the weight.

This uses up our budget - councils only have limited budgets, but they are not allowed to ignore fire risks. so we go over budget.

Then people like yourself will complain that the councils spend the money badly!

I dont buy your excuses - there are lots of adverts on facebook etc offering to collect rubbish.

On some of our estates we have single mums paying a couple of pounds for people to take away black bags of rubbish as they are unable to do it themselves with a small child. A shocking sign of the times - but they are trying really hard to keep tidy and on top of things.

Posted earlier, this exactly what happened on out street last night. All the shit dumped was set alight, fire service out for 4 hours....

MadeOfAllWork · 20/01/2024 13:54

On a side note - how sad and pathetic would someone need to be to take pics and grass you up. Some people have absolutely no lives

It was environmental health who took the pictures. But as a side note if someone dumped a load of crap outside my house I’d sure as shit be taking photos and getting them fined. Sorry if that doesn’t live up to your standards of ‘a life’.

This is a really good idea. I never want to beat people for bad spelling or grammar as it's not relevant but if you're emailing to try and get help or a payment plan have someone look over it first. Your writing is difficult to understand to be honest and won't help your case

She didn't have consent.

mrmagpie · 20/01/2024 13:57

I literally work in the relevant department of a local council.

It's very very usual for neighbours to take photos of peoples flytipping, sorry if people don't like it but that's the world we live in.

Normal bin men won't take this away, in my council domestic refuse is a whole different team with different vehicles - they wouldn't touch this and neither should they.

Leaving black bags at the side of a public bin is flytipping. In our council public health officers absolutely can and will go through bags to find people's details - it's their literal job to do so.

On the plus side, you will very very likely be able to pay in instalments and quite honestly, in my council even if you didn't you are incredibly unlikely to be prosecuted. Just phone them and agree to pay in instalments.

And don't do it again, it costs an incredible amount of money to service flytipping and takes essentially resources away from areas of the council business that you probably care about.

Minymile · 20/01/2024 13:58

We re in the country and sick of people dumping their rubbish.
Its depressing having to look.
Most of the stuff put in the bins should have been taken to a tip. If you can’t get your rubbish to a tip there are people you can pay to pick it up for you. Or rent a van etc. lots of options.

You ve admitted to it so I’d pay up.

No sympathy from me either.

Bojangles18 · 20/01/2024 13:58

Sorry wrong thread

Viviennemary · 20/01/2024 13:59

The fine is steep. But you dumped stuff. Didn't even fit it in the bin.

Cincinnatus · 20/01/2024 13:59

Well deserved.

RoseyLentil · 20/01/2024 14:00

£400 is the standard amount for a flytipping fixed penalty notice. For this kind of domestic flytipping the amount of waste does not matter.
Flytippers can be fined thousands and be jailed.
Pay the fine and don't do it again.

Thindog · 20/01/2024 14:01

Yes you fucked up. Most people do stupid things at some point in their lives, see if you can pay in instalments, cough up and move on. In a year’s time it will be forgotten.

bobomomo · 20/01/2024 14:07

We are not allowed to put furniture in the recycling tubs anyway, we can be fined for putting non recyclables in the green tubs. Plus it wasn't your bin in the first place. I can't see how you have a leg to stand on, ask for a payment plan, they should agree readily to you being honest. Also you can bag up cardboard for instance and put it out, we also asked for extra recycling tubs.

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/01/2024 14:12

No sympathy for you at all OP. I live in a block of flats and selfish pricks are always flytipping our communal bin area - so then we have to pay for a private collection as the council won't take it away.

So yes we absolutely have CCTV and pursue any fly tippers.

Beautiful3 · 20/01/2024 14:15

Erm that looks terrible, and definitely fly tipping. I'd contact the office on Monday and ask to pay in installments.

Zebedee999 · 20/01/2024 14:15

Each month I collect all the rubbish dropped along my busy (main road) street and sift it into what's recyclable and then dispose of it. Larger stuff I get the council to collect.

What is wrong with people dumping their c*p everywhere? Why must I pick all their c*p up?

Good parenting teaches kids not to drop litter, please drill this into your kids. The country looks like a dump.

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/01/2024 14:17

We've had people walk in to our communal grounds and dump stuff - because you know we are only people who live in flats right, why would we care?
