Inspired by a recent discussion on Reddit.

I am interested in any brilliant 80s songs that you think should be better known.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

West Berlin - Camel

ShirleyDandersTrousers · 21/01/2024 10:42

Micro Disney - Town to Town
Aslan -This Is

Both are a few minutes of pure musical perfection and I think almost unknown outside of Ireland....

Loopzy · 21/01/2024 11:57

Toni Basil - Hey Mickey

Microdisney were brilliant. Was quite shocked and saddened when Cathal Coughlan passed away.

Apologies if they've already been mentioned:
Just Got Lucky - Jo Boxers
Bad Day - Carmel

Ladybird69 · 21/01/2024 15:22

Wasn't a huge hit but In The Country by The Farmers Boys.
I went to their final gig in Anglia Square in Norwich.

greengreengrass25 · 21/01/2024 15:35

Listening to SO the 70s now playing

1979 - Driver 67, brilliant record, cheesy

Love Johnnie Walker.
Many years ago he had a different Sunday afternoon show and you could go on and pick three songs and talk to JW.
I sent my choices in and a couple of weeks later just before I left for work the phone rang and a familiar male voice asked to speak to me. It was Mark Goodier who produced the show asking me to go on the show.that Sunday. I realised that it wouldn't be JW as he was on holiday but Simon Mayo instead. I said that unless I could speak to JW I didn't want to go on.... MG said OK and the call ended and I thought I'd blown it.
Two weeks later the phone rang and a lady asked me to go on that Sunday.
I picked Life On Mars by David Bowie, Louis Armstrong, What A Wonderful World and the most important one Shiny Happy People by REM. My son Wilf is deaf and the day I bought Out Of Time by REM I put it on really loudly. Wilf felt the vibration of the music through the floorboards and came running down and was jumping about and dancing with me. A very special memory and JW loved the story and told me about his experiences at the San Fransisco deaf club in the 1970s.

Chance by Big Country
The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen
Memories Fade by Tears for Fears

greengreengrass25 · 21/01/2024 19:47

@Elderflower14

That must have been a fabulous experience. I love JW and SO70s show.

I also enjoy Tony Blackburn 60s show

I think a lot of you would enjoy Forgotten80s on Absolute80s radio every Sunday 9-11pm (you can also listen again whenever you like).

The show is stuffed full of underplayed 80s gems you rarely hear anywhere else.

Quick reminder that Forgotten80s is on Absolute 80s radio right now.

Anything by Yngwie Malmsteen from the 80s. He completely revolutionised metal guitar.

MuddledMadge · 22/01/2024 21:58

Thank you very much for all of these. Flowers
