Inspired by a recent discussion on Reddit.

I am interested in any brilliant 80s songs that you think should be better known.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

There’s a cafe near me that’s always playing “hot dog, jumping frog, Albuquerque” I absolutely love it!

I used to sing that to dd2 in the bath, we had frog bath toys- she thought it was hilarious.

Echo and the bunnymen the cutter.
Also second St Elmo's fire

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/01/2024 17:12

But St Elmo's Fire is never off the radio still (a good thing in my view)

@BigFatLiar I've not come across many APP fans! Ammonia Avenue is one of my favourites along with Eye in the Sky.

Don't Call Me Baby - Voice of the Beehive
I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight - The Cutting Crew

MarkWithaC · 15/01/2024 17:51

Love loads of these.

I heard Down the Dip by Aztec Camera the other day, lovely song. I think his voice is beautiful.
The Story of the Blues and Rip It Up are both frequently played on 6Music.

One you don't hear much is Slow Hand by the Pointer Sisters. Minor classic IMO.

Dinkyboots · 15/01/2024 17:54

Breathe - Hands To Heaven

Then Jerico - Big Area

Simply Red - You Got It (this one's absolutely beautiful & definitely worth a listen)

Ooh, yes. Eve and Pyramid are my favourite albums, but they're all good.

BoilingHotand50something · 15/01/2024 18:01

Blatant placemarking for my next Spotify playlist.

ditalini · 15/01/2024 18:01

I'm absolutely obsessed with Steppin' Out by Joe Jackson. It distils the music of the early 80s for me - that Casio keyboard beat under it all. Only thing missing is horns but otherwise perfecto.

I'd add Different for Girls and Is She Really Going Out With Him? but I think they're 70s.

AuntieDolly · 15/01/2024 18:07

I love most of these!
Also, Song to the Siren by This Mortal Coil

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 15/01/2024 18:11

I have ‘We Don’t Need That Fascist Groove Thang’ on my 80s song list. The message is timeless.

’Heartbroken’ by Lloyd Cole

’When Love Breaks Down’ Prefab Sprout

’Bonnie’ Prefab Sprout.

Carsarelife · 15/01/2024 18:12

Love Lloyd Cole & The Commotions -Perfect Skin - love his voice actually

Also Echo & The Bunnymen - Seven Seas

The Damned - Eloise

B52's Rock Lobster

Carsarelife · 15/01/2024 18:12

@SisterMichaelsHabit 100% with you there

ProfessorPeppy · 15/01/2024 18:16

Favourite Shirts by Haircut 100. In fact the whole Pelican West album.

adriftabroad · 15/01/2024 18:19

Voyage Voyage. Was a French song, end of 80s.
