Inspired by a recent discussion on Reddit.

I am interested in any brilliant 80s songs that you think should be better known.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Heart and Soul by T’Pau is excellent (and better than China in my Hand, imho).

NooNakedJacuzziness · 16/01/2024 20:07

Bucks Fizz has some great songs:
My camera never lies
One of those nights
I hear talk
Talking in your sleep

Yes! And Silver Mac 😁

My favourite Simple Minds song is Waterfront, which is one of those that isn't played much.

Elderflower14 · 17/01/2024 15:43

Have thought of yet another one.. :-
Its My Life by Talk Talk.
It reminds me of a very dear late friend A. We worked together in a hotel and used to listen to Talk Talk and particularly this song after work.
He moved to Derbyshire and I didn't see him for ages. I was on holiday in 1992 with my soon to be husband. I bought a newspaper and in there was the story of a car crash. My friend was named as a victim. He was in the back of a mini metro the driver had passed her test three days previously. The car flipped over and burst into flames and all five in the car were killed. I couldn't go to the funeral so had my own private goodbye. Even now thirty two years later when things happen I think of how much A would have loved it, also how much he would have adored ds2.. 💔 💔

MuddledMadge · 17/01/2024 16:01

Elderflower14, that is so sad. Your poor friend.

Fun Boy Three - Our Lips Are Sealed. It came on Absolute Radio yesterday but before that I don't think I'd heard it since I was in school. Great song.

Also, Men Without Hats - Safety Dance. It had a bit of a renaissance after the Lipton's tea ad with Hugh Jackman but it still doesn't get played much.

Also - I got your message by Men Without Hats , brilliant.

Party Fears Two - The Associates.

Walk Out To Winter - Aztec Camera ....very topical!

Simple Minds - Up On The Catwalk.

You rarely hear that one now, it's always Don't You Forget About Me, which is dull as ditchwater.

Agreed. Love the New Gold Dream album.

Nights in White Satin Moody Blues

Errm. Nights in White Satin by the Moody Bluestones came out in 1967! And still gets a fair bit of air time...
(I do understand, though -- if you can remember the sixties were you ever really there? More relevant with each passing year.)

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. This whole thread is great.

Remembered a few more

Miami sound machine- bad boy
Carly simon-why
Wax-bridge to your heart
Baltimora-tarzan boy
Lisa stansfield ft coldcut-people hold on
Amazulu-too good to be forgotten

The 80s were the best 😊

Abhannmor · 17/01/2024 18:36

Nights in White Satin was re released in 79 I think? Nice for Justin Hayward as he got very little in royalties from the first release. He was stuck in a very unfair contract he'd signed at 18.

MuddledMadge · 19/01/2024 11:38

Thanks again. Smile Flowers
