Inspired by a recent discussion on Reddit.

I am interested in any brilliant 80s songs that you think should be better known.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I have a soft spot for Looking for Linda by Hue and Cry, and also Last of the Sun by Cry Before Dawn. They don't trouble the radio much unfortunately Grin

Welshcheddar · 15/01/2024 15:41

Then Jerico - The Motive
Red Box - Lean on me.
Broken Land - The Adventures
I also loved Cry before Dawn, especially Gone Forever. Have they ever been played on the radio? Even in the 80s?

I am looking for more ideas for my Alexa playlist.

Fun Boy Three - Our Lips Are Sealed. It came on Absolute Radio yesterday but before that I don't think I'd heard it since I was in school. Great song.

Also, Men Without Hats - Safety Dance. It had a bit of a renaissance after the Lipton's tea ad with Hugh Jackman but it still doesn't get played much.

Well in Ireland they were, but I suspect not overseas.

Captain of her Heart by The Double

The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC. It came to mind a lot during Covid with the way Manchester was treated.
No Thugs In Our House by XTC.

Olivia Newton John's "The Rumour" which had been written by, and featured Elton John. Should have been a big hit but for some reason the radio stations didn't pick it up and it didn't really get anywhere in the charts.

Yes to:

Our Lips are Sealed - Fun Boy Three
I Can't Help Falling In Love With You - Lick The Tins
Perfect Skin - Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
Rip It Up - Orange Juice

I was an indie kid in the 80s, so these were all things I listened to.

Adding:
Duel - Propaganda
The First Picture of You - Lotus Eaters
