You genuinely made me lol then. Grin

I was being serious.
It would explain why he either doesn't turn up, or does and looks confused to international conferences.

We already know he is losing his memory which is very sad for anyone, so he could have forgotten he is PM.

Cornettoninja · 05/01/2024 12:31

Hmmm maybe I should be more empathetic then? 🤔

(nah - I need to see the humour in the situation. Proper Brit me!)

They seem to require me to state the law of the land as though I am some kind of oracle.

Maybe that is what they will name call you next, the oracle Wink

Because I disagree with their TWAW policy and the fact that they are giving away single sex spaces on the basis of people's (mainly male) "feels".

They don't have a "TWAW" policy - that's scaremongering by Tories and right wing feminists.

I think Starmers position is that people with a GRC must be treated as their acquired gender - that's the law, so he's right.

Actually if you read into it the Labour and Conservative positions are very close.

"It is also clear that we need to improve the process and experience that transgender people have when applying for a Gender Recognition Certificate – making it kinder and more straightforward. Our changes will address the main concerns that trans people themselves tell us they have about it." - Liz Truss, 2020

“We want transgender people to be free to live and to prosper in modern Britain.
“Those that responded to the Gender Recognition Act consultation asked for a simplified and centralised process, which is why I am delighted to launch this improved service today."
“This government will continue to prioritise initiatives that can improve the lives of LGBT people across the country.”

It is possible he is unaware he is the PM?

He thinks he's the King- that's why he doesn't make any political decisions.

The Newsagents podcast were betting on Nov 14th or 21st for an election. Pretty close to the US election if so. Going to be a busy year.

I usually stay awake for the US election too... I'm going to have bags on bags under eyes!

They don't have a "TWAW" policy - that's scaremongering by Tories and right wing feminists.

Many genuine left wing feminists are suspicious of Labour’s line and apparent about-turn on this. It’s rather insulting to imply that those of us who are concerned about the erosion of women’s rights to privacy and safety - not to mention the explosion of unwarranted medical intervention to treat psychologically distressed children - are in some way “right wing”.

It is correct, however, to say that there are those on both the right and left of politics who espouse this ideology.

I'm not implying that people who are concerned about erosion of women's rights are right wing.
I'm referring very specifically to people who make factually incorrect statements like "Labour's policy is TWAW" or "a vote for Labour is a vote for self-ID". The sort of people who say " I'm voting conservative- at least they know what a woman is". In my opinion, those people either haven't been following the debate and are just parroting what they've heard, or they are politically motivated to make this seem like a "left v. right" issue that the left are on the wrong side of.

Both of those are very far removed from people who are concerned about women's rights, and concerned about Labour's track record, totally understandable really after thing like Rosie Duffield/Lily Madigan. But the Conservatives are no better.

I hate this is being used as a wedge issue by the right wing.

Anyway I could rant all day so I'll stop there.

Lifted from a CrimeGirl Twitter post -

In a number of newspapers today: Nearly 150 rape trials have collapsed in the past year due to victims pulling out of prosecutions in despair after waiting years for justice. Victim withdrawal accounts for half of prosecutions failing in some areas. The rape case backlog has soared by 356% in four years to a record 2,591 awaiting trial in England and Wales. Some victims are facing delays of more than two and a half years just to go through the court process. A lack of specialist prosecutors, judges, and crumbling courts are exacerbating the delays. The Rape Crisis charity said women were waiting more than eight years for justice, with the process leaving some suicidal. One specialist sexual offences lawyer said, "You have got vulnerable victims self-harming and considering pulling out of the prosecution who have been let down time and time again because no prosecutor or defence lawyer or judge could be found. It has never been so bad."

x.com/crimelinelaw/status/1743172643824529874?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

I dread to think the stress those victims have been under. A decision to withdraw from prosecutions won't have been taken lightly.

Conservative MP and former energy minister Chris Skidmore resigns the Conservative whip in protest over new legislation which will allow greater fossil fuel extraction in the North Sea.

He also says he’ll resign from Parliament “as soon as possible.” Another by election….

Another by election. Death by a thousand cuts.
