Me too, and I am also one.

pointythings · 06/01/2024 09:55

YouGov survey this morning asking when I would like a GE - I wonder what the outcome of that one will be?

LlynTegid · 06/01/2024 09:57

YouGov, co-founded by a Tory MP, always think it ironic when their polls show anti-Tory sentiment.

Revealed: The UK has lost track of thousands of migrants by removing their asylum claims from the system

But the Home Office's reliance on posted letters is causing chaos, and it is already having to reverse decisions and put cases back into the backlog

The asylum withdrawal process was designed for people who no longer wanted to claim asylum, had left UK or were non-compliant

But the tactic has rocketed amid changes to make it faster and easier since Rishi Sunak’s backlog pledge, and is now being used against genuine refugees

Official stats aren't out but Home Office sources say most recent withdrawals were "implicit", meaning they were done without the consent of asylum seekers because of procedural rules

Reasons include not updating address, not attending interviews, not returning questionnaires

That's one way to do it.

All in the definitions.

So despite his fairly sensible objections to the Rwanda plan he was told to 'think about his popularity with his base'.

Ie put Tory activists demands ahead of good governance and sensible spending.

I think Cleverly would call that batshit.

Why is that embarassing?

Next week is an increase migration week in parliament, with a vote on the subject on Monday.

Increased North Sea Oil and Gas exploration, which is why Skidmore has resigned.

They don't have a "TWAW" policy - that's scaremongering by Tories and right wing feminists.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/keir-starmer-labour-woman-anneliese-dodds-b2382675.html

I think Starmers position is that people with a GRC must be treated as their acquired gender - that's the law, so he's right.

Actually if you read into it the Labour and Conservative positions are very close.

"It is also clear that we need to improve the process and experience that transgender people have when applying for a Gender Recognition Certificate – making it kinder and more straightforward. Our changes will address the main concerns that trans people themselves tell us they have about it." - Liz Truss, 2020
https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2020-09-22/hcws462

“We want transgender people to be free to live and to prosper in modern Britain.
“Those that responded to the Gender Recognition Act consultation asked for a simplified and centralised process, which is why I am delighted to launch this improved service today."
“This government will continue to prioritise initiatives that can improve the lives of LGBT people across the country.”

Kemi Badenoch 2022 https://www.gov.uk/government/news/gender-recognition-application-modernised

You can’t change sex. It’s as simple as that

DuncinToffee · 06/01/2024 10:51

Has anyone here followed the Post Office scandal?

There is now going to be a criminal investigation by Met Police over wrongful prosecution of hundreds of sub-postmasters.

Police confirm they’re looking at “potential fraud offences” in the handling of the Horizon IT scandal

Kudus to those news outlets who have been persuing it and ITV for making it into a tv series

How pleasing to see that 103 MPs are women in the Labour party compared to men 95

Yet 88 compared to 262 in the tories Hmm

That includes Dawn Butler who thinks giraffes are gay and babies are born without a sex

Boris Johnson complaining, at length, in his Mail column about: "government action to stop the domestic burning of fresh wood".

Guess whose government passed that... in May 2021

BIossomtoes · 06/01/2024 11:13

I binge watched Alan Bate’s v The Post Office. It’s bloody heartbreaking. There’s a really good podcast about it too. I really hope those victims who are still alive are generously compensated for their losses and the trauma they’ve suffered. The entire debacle was appalling.

I read the comments (not the article) which were a hilarious list of people telling him Christmas trees aren’t the best kind of wood to burn and will fuck up his chimney because of the sap, others pointing out that there’s no way he’s seasoned the wood properly to burn indoors since Christmas, and will fuck up his chimney and then his worn out bots piping up every now and then to declare their love for him and wish to see him back as PM.

It was quite the analogy for his political career. Grin

I read the article - click bait and all.

I suppose he had to think of something to write. He has little self awareness, does he?

Cornettoninja · 06/01/2024 11:46

@cakeorwine you’re a stronger person than me! I can’t read his writing without hearing his voice complete with odd outbursts and growls when he’s floundering for the next word to say. Makes. Me irrationally irritated! Grin

Know your enemy and that.

I also read the Express online

Starmer apparently keeps being humiliated by Sunak and the EU is constantly being humiliated.

Lee Anderson destroyed Labour with just 4 words yesterday.

It's in the Express so it has to be true.

@derxa if her constituents don’t like her I guess they’ll vote her out. She plays no part in decision making in the LP so I doubt those views will have any weight.

LlynTegid · 06/01/2024 11:59

People who want to see Boris Johnson hold any public office again, other than maybe his family so he is out of the house more often, presumably are joking.
