My sister is coming to see me today.
We are going for afternoon tea at a hotel in my village.
It's a 25 min drive to her house but she doesn't drive so will need to get a bus and a train then I pick her up from Durham train station .
We are meeting at 3 but she has said to catch connecting train she has to leave her house at 1pm.
I think the bus takes half hour then the train 1 hour.
Honestly I just can't be bothered driving 25 mins to pick her up and then 25 mins back home to the hotel we are going too.
Is that terrible?
I don't mind driving to Durham train station as it's only 5 -10 mins away
It's pretty windy today and forecast some showers so I think she's Hinting for a lift.
I've just replied saying okay will let you get sorted
Drop me a text when your nearly in Durham

I used to have to drive 30 mins to the supermarket, driving 25 mins to pick up a family member is nothing.

Don't be mean - go and get her.

Brighteyedtriangle · 29/12/2023 07:56

Yes

DustyLee123 · 29/12/2023 07:56

Yes, I’d pick her up and take her home.

aiceineonderlsnd · 29/12/2023 07:57

I deffo wouldn't be able to take her home as I'm having a couple of drinks.
She's going to have to make her own way home.

Sounds like a compromise to pick her up from the station.

WonderingWanda · 29/12/2023 07:57

Yes I would pick her up, that's nothing. Don't be so lazy and selfish.

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 29/12/2023 07:58

I'd pick her up and she can make her own way home

overmydeadbody · 29/12/2023 07:58

25 minutes is nothing. Yes I'd pick up my sister.

KinS24 · 29/12/2023 07:59

Without any other context then yes that’s very unsisterly. If I was her I would be fed up at a 4 hour round trip for tea and cakes.
How will she get back? I think it would be less bad if you’ve already offered to drop her home afterwards and don’t want to do the drive twice.

KinS24 · 29/12/2023 08:00

Missed your update. So if you’re drinking you pick her up and drive both back to you then both walk/bus to hotel? That sounds best.

Whataretheodds · 29/12/2023 08:00

Yes it's mean, especially as you're not going to drop her off. It's just an extra 25 mins to chat, isn't it. You van listen to tunes you like on the way there.

PubicZirconia · 29/12/2023 08:01

How will you get yourself home if you're having a few drinks?

x88mph · 29/12/2023 08:01

Yes I’d go and pick her up. That way you get to spend more time together.

Hiddenvoice · 29/12/2023 08:02

Yeah I would pick her up unless I wasn’t driving myself. How are you getting home?

MirandaWest · 29/12/2023 08:04

I’d pick her up

tulipsunday · 29/12/2023 08:05

Yes I would get her. For her to have to leave at 1 to get there for 3 when you could get to hers in 25mins seems a bit harsh.

Thehandinthedark · 29/12/2023 08:05

How about you pick her up and take her home, then have a drink when you get home? I bloody love drinking, but surely you can have afternoon tea without pouring booze down your neck.

HollyGolightly4 · 29/12/2023 08:07

I don't drive, and I hate to put anyone out, so if I was your sister I wouldn't be bothered. However, it would be a good deed, especially as it will only be one way!

Perfectlystill · 29/12/2023 08:07

I would definitely pick her up! 25 minutes is nothing.

AllAboardTootToot · 29/12/2023 08:07

With sisters like you who needs enemies 😂

Puck her up ya miserable sod!

cariadlet · 29/12/2023 08:08

25 minute drive for you and 2 hour journey for her.
Yes, I'd definitely offer to go and pick her up.

Don't you like her?

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/12/2023 08:09

Normally with an afternoon tea you drink tea!

Whoopitywhoops · 29/12/2023 08:09

It wouldn't even cross my mind not to do this. Just pick her up. I can't imagine leaving my sister to do a 90 minute journey in the wind and rain when I could really easily pick her up.

soundsys · 29/12/2023 08:09

I'd pick her up and then not feel guilty about enjoying a few drinks and letting her make her own way home :)

(Although I'm the non-driving sister in this scenario in my family and I'd love a train journey on my own with no-one talking to me so I could read a book in peace!)

aiceineonderlsnd · 29/12/2023 08:10

@PubicZirconia the hotel is 5-10 mins walk to my house
