Would you offer to pick up your sister?

My sister is coming to see me today.
We are going for afternoon tea at a hotel in my village.
It's a 25 min drive to her house but she doesn't drive so will need to get a bus and a train then I pick her up from Durham train station .
We are meeting at 3 but she has said to catch connecting train she has to leave her house at 1pm.
I think the bus takes half hour then the train 1 hour.
Honestly I just can't be bothered driving 25 mins to pick her up and then 25 mins back home to the hotel we are going too.
Is that terrible?
I don't mind driving to Durham train station as it's only 5 -10 mins away
It's pretty windy today and forecast some showers so I think she's Hinting for a lift.
I've just replied saying okay will let you get sorted
Drop me a text when your nearly in Durham

I would but I like my family & she would repay the favour in other ways.

Sirzy · 29/12/2023 08:10

Without a doubt I would pick her up.

Toomuch44 · 29/12/2023 08:10

What's her reason for not driving? If it's health or financial, then fair enough a lift occasionally. If not, it's her choice not to drive and she has to accept public transport.

aiceineonderlsnd · 29/12/2023 08:12

@Toomuch44 she has a driving licence but after a accident (not serious ) she is scared to drive now.

Why pick a place so convenient for you and so difficult for her in the first place? That's actually quite selfish.

I deffo wouldn't be able to take her home as I'm having a couple of drinks.
She's going to have to make her own way home.

How is she getting back to the station if you will be drinking?

chopc · 29/12/2023 08:13

You are posting here as you feel guilty ......

bloatedbobby · 29/12/2023 08:13

Shes coming to see you, I would facilitate that tbh.

LunaTheCat · 29/12/2023 08:15

Yes, pick her up.
My sister didn’t drive, she lived an hour away. I picked her up and dropped her off…she’s not here anymore and I am so grateful that I did.

Jk987 · 29/12/2023 08:15

I'd pick her up and then she stay at yours that night. Or she gets a cab home. Enjoy!

jhy · 29/12/2023 08:16

1hr and 30 min train
Compared to a 25 min drive for you
Yes YABU

fuckssaaaaake · 29/12/2023 08:18

I'm driving my friend 1.5 hours to the airport, I like her! You clearly don't like your sis if you just can't be arsed

Ragwort · 29/12/2023 08:20

Of course I'd pick her up, who chose the hotel? Sounds a lot of faff for what is meant to be a 'treat'. You could compromise by suggesting she will need to make her own way home.

AuntMarch · 29/12/2023 08:21

I'd pick her up and let her train home.

FiveShelties · 29/12/2023 08:22

Sometimes I am so pleased to be an only child.

Just pick her up and stop being mean.

PubicZirconia · 29/12/2023 08:23

I would pick her up,we both go back to mine and either she stays until I could drive her or she gets a cab.

KievLoverTwo · 29/12/2023 08:24

Nah

As a non driver I am very used to trekking everywhere to do nice things and see people.

That's on me for not learning to drive.

If you can bring yourself to drive her home that might be appreciated - sods law says there will always be cancellations and delays when all you want to do is get home in crap weather.

LynetteScavo · 29/12/2023 08:26

I'd definitely pick her up. I think you're being a bit mean.

This was my first thought, at least meet in the middle, where the bus drops her so she only has a bus ride instead of bus and train.

PegasusReturns · 29/12/2023 08:27

of course I’d pick her up

presumably you like her and what to spend time with her - this gives you more opportunity.

Howbizzare22 · 29/12/2023 08:28

Pick her up fgs don’t be so bloody mean.

RandomMess · 29/12/2023 08:28

Yes I'd pick her up as she's got to get herself home.

icelollycraving · 29/12/2023 08:29

I don’t drive. I don’t expect lifts (except from dh). Why choose somewhere so convenient for you and so tricky for your sister? I don’t think I’d be arsed to see someone if it meant I had to do all the travelling so we could go 5 mins from their house.

ACynicalDad · 29/12/2023 08:31

Absolutely and I’d have found a venue near her if at all possible not near you, and I’d drop her back too.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/12/2023 08:31

Hang on - the sister drives: does she still have a car, but is not using it? She needs to get back on the horse. I can completely understand the reluctance to pick her up if she could drive herself. Presumably she's welcome to come back to yours afterwards?
