I love to get the decorations down on Boxing Day and get back to normal.
A bit of a clean and a good reset.
Ready to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

Nope! Not til 12th night. I love my cosy decorations. Christmas is the only time of the year where we are all off for a reasonable time with no where to go in a rush, no where to be or holiday to go on. I want to make that last as long as possible!

2024please · 26/12/2023 09:13

Nothing to take down, as we didn't put any decs up this year. 🫤

chosenone · 26/12/2023 09:15

Nope! Christmas has just started 🎄

We normally keep it up until 12th Night. This year I will take it down on the 2nd of January. Three out of four of us have exams in January and that will mark the end of relaxing and the start of the working hard phase of the ‘holiday’.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/12/2023 09:24

It's our first proper Christmas in our new home (we'd only just moved in last year) so I got a bit giddy and bought a large tree at the beginning of December.

Three weeks later it's really looking sorry for itself. DM goes home tomorrow so will take it down after that. Next year I'll definitely hold off for a bit 😉

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 26/12/2023 09:27

Boxing Day is a little early for me but mine will be down before new year.

PinkyFlamingo · 26/12/2023 09:28

Sounds joyless and miserable to me. Still each to their own.

Not everyone is religious. People celebrate different aspects of Xmas.

That's true but it doesn't stop Christmas being 12 days, just like Hanukkah is 9 days, Ramadan lasts a month and Diwali is 5 days.

Not everyone celebrates (or is able to celebrate) all of any festival but the festival doesn't suddenly become shorter.

lollipoprainbow · 26/12/2023 09:30

No way! Tree stays up until 12th night.

Soccermumamir · 26/12/2023 09:34

No, but I do taking it down before New Year 🙂👍

frozendaisy · 26/12/2023 09:35

It's Boxing Day.
Who wants to "get back to normal" on Boxing Day?

Today is for espresso martinis, cheesy TV, grazing the leftover buffet, playing silly games and forgetting about the real world for at least another day (assuming you are not at work etc).

Plus our tree is quite pretty and didn't go up until last week.

bintybooboo · 26/12/2023 09:35

oh yes I agree with OP. I used to start taking down cards etc., on Boxing Day when the kids were small, so they wouldn't notice too much. Unfortunately I would have to keep the tree up but never after New Years Day. Now they're all grown up, I can please myself. However they're all here today, with the grandchildren, so I've got no choice. I've been known in the past though to put it up Christmas Eve morning, and get rid Boxing Day. I'm proud that whenever I've had a real tree, its been the first out the front!!!!

I've never got decorations up as such, and it is just the tree, and a few fairy lights on the sideboard thingy.

GoldenFishes · 26/12/2023 09:35

Ours will come down new years eve.
I like it to be away before I go back to work but this while week is very definitely Christmas.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/12/2023 09:36

People taking it down today have probably had it up from the 1st of November.

BanjoMango · 26/12/2023 09:38

Not till the early Jan here as Christmas generally lasts until NYD here

Or October 🙄

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/12/2023 09:44

Who wants to do cleaning and tidying on Boxing Day, the one day of the year when it’s the law to have a big lie-in, then sit around all day eating leftovers, cheese and chocolates, watching telly, doing jigsaws, reading a book, no obligations….

It’s mad to make it yet another day of “organising” and “getting shit done”.

Metoo15 · 26/12/2023 09:50

I’ve taken mine down this morning only me and DH. It’s taken me two hours but the house feels much better. The DGC will be here on Thursday and next week and we don’t have much room for them to play.

BeaRF75 · 26/12/2023 09:54

But it's only the second day of Christmas! This is why you put up on Xmas Eve and take down on Twelfth Night.

Nonentity2023 · 26/12/2023 09:55

Ours tree stays up till the Feast of the Epiphany on 6th January. It’s very much a Christmas season for us.

blackpanth · 26/12/2023 09:56

Nope stays up

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2023 09:57

Mine only went up a week ago!

Christmas stuff (plates, cups etc) comes out on 24th here and all goes away on the 31st.

The week between Xmas and NY and is time I actually have to enjoy it!

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2023 09:58

Having said that I also know someone who takes theirs down the end of the day Christmas Day 🤷‍♀️😂
