I love to get the decorations down on Boxing Day and get back to normal.
A bit of a clean and a good reset.
Ready to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

I’m sitting indoors listening to the storm raging out there so assumed this was about damage from that! 🤭😂

Put it up and take it down whenever you like, that's one of the (few) joys of being an adult, you get to make your own decisions sometimes.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a tree at all but it's important for DH and DC so fine, it will come down when we have time and can be arsed.

frozendaisy · 27/12/2023 10:34

I used to take it down NYE but string the lights up for a bit.

But the kids found out we can leave it up until 5th so we do that now. It's their tree really.

It didn't get finished until the 18th and still smells lovely. And it's pretty. So it can stay.

Google 'The 12 days of Christmas' ya know, what it's actually all about

If you’re a Christian, yes. Christmas was originally a pagan festival.

True. Which would run from the solstice to the new year...anybody properly celebrating the 12 days of yule wouldn't be taking their tree down on boxing day either

No way! I love my tree and will be sad to put it away. We put it up the weekend after Thanksgiving and it comes down on Twelfth Night!

Boxing Day is still very much Christmas in our household.

I think part of the problem is the trend for putting the tree up ridiculously early. End of Nov/beginning of Dec is too soon IMO. People have forgetting that the 12 days of Christmas START on Christmas Day.

Same here. I seemed to be the outlier with my group of friends when this topic of when to put the tree up was discussed a few years back. We have a real tree every year though. Ours doesn’t go up until sometime after December 15th - a week before Christmas usually. We buy it earlier and it stays outside, usually getting rained on, until we bring it inside. It gets taken down on twelfth night.

There was one year when I was very young when we got the tree and put it up in the first week of December. We then ended up having to buy a replacement because so many needles had dropped and it had the dead tree smell by mid-December.😖

🤔 It's okay to be different, it's okay to do your own thing. It's incorrect to say people "forget." It can be just personal preference. Not everyone is religious, but choose to celebrate it in their own way focusing on family/good food/nice decorations/Santa Claus & generally having a good time.

Every year I feel a bit flat and sad the week after Christmas and just sort of want to make it all go away but then one year I did take the tree down before NYE and it just felt weird. So I'll probably leave mine up until New Year's Day, but what I might do is put away the cards and other decorations so it's just the tree.

Well precisely. Nowhere in Christmas does a tree come into play. In fact the bible says it’s a sin to have a Christmas tree. The irony.

I don't understand what point you're trying to make. Christmas celebrations are an amalgamation of pagan and Christian elements and taking the tree down so soon isn't a part of either

Iamthatgenius · 27/12/2023 16:15

We haven't even opened all of our presents yet or put away those that we have opened 😂 and we have a house full of food and booze, visitors this week etc. I'd find it very strange to feel like Christmas was over when I feel like it's only just getting into the swing of it! We are really quite slow with our celebrations though and happy to draw them out

Oppositioblue · 27/12/2023 17:12

I’m taking mine down this evening. All back to work today. House looks and feels cluttered. Christmas is over. In our house. I want them down, house cleaned and ready for the new year.

mrsjg · 28/12/2023 16:41

Just finished putting the tree away for another year. Christmas is over with and I'm so glad to get back to normal.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/12/2023 16:44

Mine hasn't been up a week!

tallsmallmum · 28/12/2023 17:49

Many things are a sin in the Bible but it does not mention a Christmas tree being one @CommonOrNot 🤦🏽‍♀️ Christmas isn't a term in the bible- obviously. studied it enough times
