I love to get the decorations down on Boxing Day and get back to normal.
A bit of a clean and a good reset.
Ready to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

Christmas for another week here. Tree stays up until after the new year, how can you celebrate new year and have a party without the twinkling lights and the tree!

noname846 · 26/12/2023 08:51

There seems to have been a trend in recent years towards putting the tree up earlier and taking it down earlier - I guess if you get a real tree in November it's going to be somewhat worse for wear by Boxing Day.

I really dislike it and am firmly in the "stays up until Twelfth Night" camp - my tree went up on the 17th.

LividStrike · 26/12/2023 08:52

Put mine up end of November.

Going away tomorrow for a few days and the cleaner is coming. I have two child free hours starting NOW.

It’s coming down. I can’t wait. I peaked early 😂

I find the inevitable posts on social media pulling the tree down on Boxing Day really depressing. It’s still Christmas?!

It is for you - but for others that are suffering it’s enough to get through it maybe?

Agustus · 26/12/2023 08:52

Hmm, you're obviously wrong inside, but whatever makes you happy!

Pipistrellus · 26/12/2023 08:52

CommonOrNot · 26/12/2023 08:44

Mine will be tomorrow. I have people coming round again today (yay)

Absolutely cannot stand leaving the tree up after Xmas. Do not know how people can go into the knew year with last years decs hanging about 🤯

Boxing day isn’t 'after Christmas' for many, it's the second day of twelve. I wouldn't keep a tree up inside after Christmas, I'd take it down on twelfth night.

New year being 1st January is an arbitrary date that means nothing to me.

Globe22 · 26/12/2023 08:52

Each to their own but it feels sad and joyless to me.

SnapdragonToadflax · 26/12/2023 08:53

PincNeon · 26/12/2023 08:31

They’re aggressively proud of doing it like it’s a big virtue to be ‘getting back on with it’ on Boxing Day and they absolutely consider the tree to be clutter by the end of Christmas Day which just feels joyless.

Yep, it’s the brisk no-nonsense tone of posts like this that always get me. Give me clutter and gaudy baubles any day over an urge to be spick and span so strong you’re itching to tidy first thing on a bank holiday.

Me too, a million times over. I love that everything is a bit of a mess and I physically can't clean half the living room at the moment 😂

Ticketybooboo · 26/12/2023 08:54

Usually all down tomorrow but going away so will take them down later. Christmas for me is over after Boxing Day and I look forward to having a tidy and clean for the new year.

monicagellerbing · 26/12/2023 08:56

Mine are coming down tomorrow. Like others I need the space back and everywhere needs a good dust, all ready for the New Year.

Newchapterbeckons · 26/12/2023 08:56

I work in mental health and some of the posts on here are very short sighted. Christmas is a horrendously difficult time for some, domestic violence, death and divorce peaks. If you enjoy ‘twinkly lights’ keep yours up but I don’t think anyone should be shaming others for a different view.

bananamangoes · 26/12/2023 08:56

Just chill out today

No need for cleaning and reset

Enjoy your life

OhNaffOffYouWazzock · 26/12/2023 08:56

It's Christmas though, we still have presents under the tree and we're having family round for Boxing Day dinner.

LubaLuca · 26/12/2023 08:56

We're definitely in Christmas mode until New Year, so everything stays up to keep it feeling festive. I don't know why you wouldn't want to keep it going a bit longer, unless you were going away soon after Xmas.

PincNeon · 26/12/2023 08:57

@willowstar - your reply doesn’t have the tone that I’m on about! People have mentioned space, celebrating birthdays and crap Christmases as reasons to take a tree down early, and they all make perfect sense to me. It’s the posts that make a virtue of tidiness and ruthless efficiency over everything else that I’m not into.

supermamio · 26/12/2023 09:00

Boxing day starts with a cuppa, bring down the decorations, do a tip run, a tidy round, then spend the rest of the day going through gifts with dc. Dont understand the people who are saying i hope you dont have dc, my children dont mind as it clears room for them to play easier.

But it’s not “after Xmas” until Epiphany on the 6th Jan.

Why do so many people think Christmas is just one day?

newtimesagain · 26/12/2023 09:01

I never put any decs up to start with.
Im the grinch.

DirectionToPerfection · 26/12/2023 09:04

Your poor kids, would it kill you to keep it up a few more days for them, given that it's still Christmas?

sashh · 26/12/2023 09:05

CommonOrNot · 26/12/2023 08:45

How has it only just begun? It’s literally been and gone.

Christmas lasts for 12 days, we are on day two so another 10 to go.

Today is the 'feast of Stephen' referenced in the well know Christmas carol 'Good King Wenceslas'.

There is a different feast day until Epiphany, the last Christmas feast day celebrated on 6th January.

alpaca44 · 26/12/2023 09:05

Umph · 26/12/2023 07:08

Boxing Day is still very much Christmas in our household.

I think part of the problem is the trend for putting the tree up ridiculously early. End of Nov/beginning of Dec is too soon IMO. People have forgetting that the 12 days of Christmas START on Christmas Day.

Absolutely this.

The wise men don’t come until 6th Jan!

Not everyone is religious. People celebrate different aspects of Xmas.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 26/12/2023 09:05

Christmas for us is Christmas Eve to New Year's Day - one long period of doing what we want, when we want and seeing family/friends every day. Basically a week of partying!

We put out tree up on 1st December and now on 1st January but I'd leave it up much longer if I could (would seem a bit weird though!)

maddiemookins16mum · 26/12/2023 09:06

No way, we’re still enjoying Christmas. It will come down before we go back to work on the 2nd Jan. I love the light and sparkle for a bit longer thanks.

We won't start seeing lighter mornings until into January if you celebrate more as a winter festival.
