I love to get the decorations down on Boxing Day and get back to normal.
A bit of a clean and a good reset.
Ready to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

I was going to do it but still looks so green and smells so nice. 😊

ChristmasAgainWTAF · 26/12/2023 15:28

Just no!! Today is for relaxing and eating copious amount of chocolate! We will be taking ours down around the 28th, have had them up since 1st though. I don't like going into the new year with last year's decs, it doesn't feel right to me. I'm all for a new beginning, and a freshly cleaned house. Plus I enjoy new year so much better knowing it is done!

Tawlk · 26/12/2023 16:23

We actually take ours down Christmas morning, while the kids are opening the presents from Santa I roll the sleeves up and get stuck in….Merry Christmas 🎅

😂😂

We’ll be taking all three trees down on Saturday 6th January, and will enjoy them every day until then!

I find it quite sad and a reflection of the times we live in that people seemingly get so easily bored and wants to rush on to the next thing so quickly.
I can understand it there are space issues although frankly my response to this would be to buy a tree that was appropriate to the size you have.
Christmas has definitely shifted though - now it's all about the run-up to it whereas in my childhood, it didn't really start until Christmas Eve and everyone kept their tree up until around 12th night.

This is how I feel.
I like to be spick and span, but this is the first day in well over a week I've managed to relax
I certainly not going to put the tree away.
Went up 13th Dec.
It looks lovely
It will be up for a party at the weekend
It will be up New Year's Eve as we welcome in 2024.
And then I will probably take it down New Year's Day.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 26/12/2023 18:13

We've not even seen all the relatives too exchange presents with yet so there are still gifts under ours, definitely not coming down yet! 12th night here. Up just before Christmas and down on 12th night. I would put it up Christmas Eve if I could but the DC like it earlier so we compromise with the weekend before.

LonelynSad · 26/12/2023 21:01

@Catslovenip Yours may be plastic but mine is built from solid steel and fabric!

LonelynSad · 26/12/2023 21:02

AlltheFs · 26/12/2023 08:07

It’s Christmas until 12th night. It’s literally just started.
I can’t abide people that take decorations down before then.

Same, it completely undermines what Christmas is about to begin with. These are usually the ones who don't even believe in god yet still celebrate Christmas! 😆🙄

LonelynSad · 26/12/2023 21:06

CommonOrNot · 26/12/2023 08:44

Mine will be tomorrow. I have people coming round again today (yay)

Absolutely cannot stand leaving the tree up after Xmas. Do not know how people can go into the knew year with last years decs hanging about 🤯

Google 'The 12 days of Christmas' ya know, what it's actually all about

Jacfrost · 26/12/2023 21:08

I bet the people who rush to take their trees down on boxing days have really ugly ones with horrid decorations and flashing blue lights. Not the reason they take them down per se, but I reckon there's a correlation between how nice a tree is and when it's put up/comes down

LonelynSad · 26/12/2023 21:08

The 12 days of Christmas BEGIN on Christmas Eve
HTH

Crucible · 26/12/2023 21:10

Sticking with the medieval tradition, ours stays up til Candlemas on Feb 2nd. We put it up over a few days quite near Christmas though, we had finished decorating it on the 21st.

SideshowAuntSallyx · 26/12/2023 21:14

Mine went up last Wednesday and I took it down this afternoon. I have a slot at the tip booked for tomorrow to get rid of it. I usually leave it up until the 27th but I was fed up of telling the cats to stop drinking the manky water in the stand, of it blocking part of the TV so when I'm pushed to the other side of the sofa by the cats sat on the other side of the sofa I only see half the screen. It also means I can put the scratching post and cat igloo back in their usual place.

It was actually quite nice to look at but just not convenient in my flat.

Almondmum · 26/12/2023 21:59

If this keeps running I wonder whether we'll end up with:

I bet people who take their tree down on the 26th steal from old people
i bet people who take their tree down on the 26th punch kittens
I bet people who take their tree down on the 26th are serial murderers

Absolute scum of the earth you boxing day tree put awayers! Responsible for all of society's ills.

TitaniasAss · 26/12/2023 22:10

People are actually saying they don't like people who take their decorations down early. I mean, how ridiculous. 😂 I keep mine up but it's completely ridiculous to say that you 'can't abide' people who do things differently to you. This thread is so ridiculous.

I bet they kill kittens too!

Ah, on the subject of flashing blue lights............................................

UndertheCedartree · 26/12/2023 22:53

Mine stays up til Epiphany. But it only went up on the 21st.

I can't believe some of the comments on here either. 'You must do things the way I do or you're a terrible parent and generally a shit human being'. In not so many words obvs. God forbid anyone do their own (non Mumsnet approved) thing. I'm all for keeping my tree up, but couldn't give a monkeys how other people choose to do their Christmas. Why would anyone?

UndertheCedartree · 26/12/2023 22:57

FindingMeno · 26/12/2023 07:08

I agree.
I cannot understand keeping a tree up into the new year/ till the 12th night when you're back at work and everything.
Normal life resumes here tomorrow.

My DD doesn't go back to school til the 8th so not normal routine until then.

Imnotarestaurant · 26/12/2023 10:01

And will be decorating and buying for Easter in the next few weeks.

If Sainsbury's or Morrisons have hot cross buns on sale tomorrow, and they easily might have, I'll lift them all and put them on the parsnip stalls.

DustyLee123 · 26/12/2023 07:32

Not today. I see BD as a low key Xmas day, so enjoy it more. But it will be down this week, then a spring clean, and start looking out for signs of spring 🐑

It's been so mild I've already seen signs of Spring! A tree near me has blossom!

I like my decorations and don't really consider them to be 'hanging about,' more tastefully placed 😂

Nanalisa60 · 26/12/2023 23:46

No mine will be up till 5/6th January, but I suspect if you put your tree up in November you must be getting feed up with it by now!!

Me too. I only have decorations I actually like so I don't want to get rid of them.
