I love to get the decorations down on Boxing Day and get back to normal.
A bit of a clean and a good reset.
Ready to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

Mine is always up (outside), but the lights will stay on until early February. Most inside decorations I'll take down on 12th night.

Theraffarian · 26/12/2023 07:13

No way is it coming down before 12th night . I love coming home to the cozy comfort of a decorated house and twinkly lights , the tree ornaments are a collection built up over 30 plus years and I like them up as long as possible.

Devilsmommy · 26/12/2023 07:15

I'm only keeping mine up because my dad's visiting tomorrow. When he leaves it's coming straight down. Had enough of saying no to my 15mo when he keeps pulling baubles off🤣 hopefully next year he leaves them alone😒

It’s still Christmas. How depressing but equally controlling.

Hmmmm.
I guess it is a bit maybe but noone else seems to mind.
And since its always up to me to put it all away as everyone else cba ( it'd probably be up still in May), I'd say its my call to make.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 26/12/2023 07:15

No! No, no, no

It's staying up until 6 January. Christmas is a season, not one day. I've got round two of a full 'Christmas day', including presents, on the 28th!

You do you, but it's a bit joyless.

AuntieMarys · 26/12/2023 07:15

Taking ours down tomorrow. Went up the 15th.
No other decorations in the house...I want fresh flowers now.

I agree.
I cannot understand keeping a tree up into the new year/ till the 12th night when you're back at work and everything.
Normal life resumes here tomorrow.

Working doesn't mean it's not Christmas to me. Many people have trees up in advent when they are still working or at school, what's the difference at Christmas time? I've worked many a Christmas.

ThreeRingCircus · 26/12/2023 07:17

I always take the tree down on New Year's Eve as I like to start the new year all fresh so I'm not someone that leaves it up until twelfth night but I think it's such a shame to take it down on Boxing Day. It is still Christmas, we'll be chilling out and seeing family and DDs are off school for ages yet even if DH and I are working a bit around it all...... we're keeping the festivities going.

I think I'd feel really flat if the tree came down immediately after the 25th as it would symbolise Christmas was over. Christmas is a season!

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 26/12/2023 07:18

No, I'm not spending my Boxing Day taking a tree down! Ill enjoy it a few more days then do it around New Years.

Oh I see, this is you making a passive aggressive point. Gotcha.

judgedreadful · 26/12/2023 07:23

Mine is coming down today I have no room for anything and it's driving me nuts. I need normality back.

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 26/12/2023 07:23

Good grief, mine only went UP on Xmas Eve. Today is the SECOND day of Xmas. So no mine will be up until Twelfth Night.

Each to their own Xmas Sad

sorrynotathome · 26/12/2023 07:24

So when do you have the traditional argument about whether 12th night is the 5th or 6th Jan?

Ifancythegrinch · 26/12/2023 07:24

Yes, down this morning.

For the last couple of years my 9 year old dd has wanted the awful bloody thing up from the first weekend in december, so it’s been up long enough.

its a horrible, cheap artificial one though, with crap poundland baubles (we never seem to have the cash to upgrade), so it’s not all lovely and beautiful.

Westfacing · 26/12/2023 07:25

New Year's Day for me - I like the twinkling lights!

Absolutely!
I don't live in a mansion and displaced items end up making life difficult and frustrating.

NYE for me because we have people over. Today I’m mainly eating and lying on the sofa 😉

But I'm sure your daughter loves all the crappy baubles!

Maybe they would put it away when they felt ready. Have they ever been given the chance? I still have a pumpkin display, I like it and we haven't finished the real squash yet (some are real some are not).

I'm not prepared to wait forever until they're ready!

I take mine down new years eve. Its birthday time on the 2nd January so I don't like to mix the two 🤣 I do start taking little bits down from now until nye though. (Id I could pop it all away today then I would but boxing day is lego building day here, so I'm busy 🤣)

PurBal · 26/12/2023 07:31

No. Still Christmas. Admittedly not my tree but I keep some decorations up until February 2.

Baneofmyexistence · 26/12/2023 07:32

I would usually take it down tomorrow but the kids will like it a bit longer so I’ll probably do it at the weekend. I like to start the new year clean, fresh and tidy!

DustyLee123 · 26/12/2023 07:32

Not today. I see BD as a low key Xmas day, so enjoy it more. But it will be down this week, then a spring clean, and start looking out for signs of spring 🐑

Oppositioblue · 26/12/2023 07:33

Mine will come down at the weekend I think. I am back to work tomorrow and then I want a clean house before new year. As someone said above, some fresh flowers too.

My neighbour took hers down last night. It’s her daughters birthday today so she’s decorated for that.
