Anyone want to shares there’s? I have a few but the that upsets me is swapping 4 pizzas for 2. Come on Tesco do I not feed the adults or not feed the children?

It should always be the same number of items. We're they particularly massive pizzas?

Theunamedcat · 19/12/2023 06:44

Are they bigger?

Dynamoat · 19/12/2023 06:46

We got hot chilli jam rather than chutney for my cheese board. That will likely kill off my elderly relatives who think a korma is the equivalent of munching on a scotch bonnet.

I won the substitution lottery a few years ago a huge sausage plate and loads of profiteroles, I don’t think I’ve got slots close enough to be that lucky this year.

SonicAllanKey · 19/12/2023 06:52

My Xmas food shopping is arriving Christmas Eve early afternoon because of travel. I live in fear of the substitutions 😭

daffodilandtulip · 19/12/2023 06:53

Yes I've noticed that they don't sub the same numbers anymore, they sub to the similar total cost. If I wanted to spend double, that's what I would have ordered!

I did my "big shop" last week and I'm doing my fresh shop in real life this week. The subs and missing food this year get worse by the week so I just couldn't face it.

FlickyCrumble · 19/12/2023 06:55

Well Tesco have taken off my pre ordered corn fed chicken and left me with nothing. They didn’t email to say. I only noticed when I went to amend my order and add nuts.

shearwater2 · 19/12/2023 06:55

Yeah, I gave some website feedback to Sainsbury's on this recently - they don't make many substitutions but have often goofed in only giving me half of the original item, which defeats the entire object of the convenience of it. They have been better since then.

It's a big position of trust I've put them in with a delivery on Christmas Eve, but they have been reliable enough so far.

I didn't used to get much food delivered at all as it used to be unreliable whoever I tried, so many subsitutions and missing items.

I remember ordering from Waitrose Entertaining for my dad's wake - they merrily announced that morning that they wouldn't be supplying half the sandwiches. Luckily we had enough of everything but it was a stress I really didn't need, when it was something I'd done to make things as easy as possible.

I tried ordering from Morrisons on Amazon once. Spent loads of time building up the basket, 103 items. When the time came to organise the delivery (as weirdly you can only do it a day in advance or so rather than a regular slot in advance which is shit anyway) they had none of the items available. Not a single one. Alexa still reminds me I have 103 items in my trolley from time to time, but I doubt they will be going anywhere soon. What a croc.

Ostryga · 19/12/2023 06:56

My proper Xmas shop is coming on the 23rd but Asda are on my blacklist for life now after cancelling my order on Saturday afternoon, and when it finally arrived on Sunday had subbed a whole free range chicken for frozen spicy breaded processed chicken things, and a coffee cake for washing up sponges. Why 😂

CirreltheSquirrel · 19/12/2023 07:00

They've substituted my Wensleydale. What will I have with my Christmas cake now?

FredaFox · 19/12/2023 07:27

These threads amuse me with some of the bizarre subs, so far I've never had an odd substitution with Tesco but my Christmas slot is Thursday night so let's see!

TidyDancer · 19/12/2023 07:31

My shopping is coming on Friday which is later than I like to leave it tbh but won't reliably be home to receive it any day before then! Figure I can always pop to a shop early on Saturday if I have to but I'm really reluctant to if I can avoid it!

Been lucky in previous years so I'm assuming this will be my year to come back with a batshit crazy story about getting salmon subbed for cat food or something.

JimnJoyce · 19/12/2023 07:34

I have delivery slots for Christmas and Nee Year and this thread isn't filling me with confidence...
If my substitutions are not acceptable I can't get out to buy more.

CrochetMadRosie · 19/12/2023 07:37

I had my icing to ice the Christmas cake (so a good size block) substituted for a tiny tube of white piping icing yesterday...
Not the end of the world as I'm shopping later anyway, but annoying as I'd planned to ice and decorate yesterday.
Wasn't there someone who wanted lettuce and that got substituted for lettuce seeds one year? I always think of that when these threads come up!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 19/12/2023 07:44

Swapped my fudge cake mix for a red velvet mix. Asda, the bastards! They also subbed my full fat squirty cream with light. It’s not the same taste at all 😐

Iceland today says it’s all coming. They always seem to get me what I need.

Worst substitution I had was instead of baby food apricot puree they sent a bag of fresh apricots.

MotherofPearl · 19/12/2023 08:01

I'm already anxious about this for my delivery on Friday.

A couple of weeks ago Waitrose saw fit to send me some BBQ pork belly strips in place of the pork joint I'd ordered to make a roast dinner. I refused the sub on the doorstep and had to do a last minute dash to the butcher's (to be fair, I probably should have just gone to the butcher's in the first place, but was short of time and wanted convenience).

LouLou789 · 19/12/2023 08:02

I ordered 6 bottles of wine (on the Buy 6 and save 25% offer). Only 3 were supplied, plus three bottles of gulp British 8% wine, not on the offer of course. Luckily this was click and collect so I rejected all 6, loaded the car and popped into the store where 6 bottles of my original choice were readily available on the shelf.

DS used to work for Asda and tells me they had a customer complaint that her order for baby oil for PFB had been subbed with sex lube.

MadCatLady27 · 19/12/2023 08:14

Probably going to be doing nibbly "party" food for dinner Xmas Eve. We get everything delivered but will be getting these in person because I just know there's going to be at least one substitution that neither of us eats. Will allow the picking up of any last minute forgotten items

bluestarthread · 19/12/2023 08:18

Sainsburys sent me the icing for the Christmas cake but didn’t have marzipan so substituted with more icing?!?!

BrutusMcDogface · 19/12/2023 08:22

This is the first year that I’m relying on a Tesco delivery for Christmas dinner- now I’m scared!

MargaretThursday · 19/12/2023 08:23

I once had pizza substituted with coconut yoghurt so at least you can feed the kids pizza 🤣🤣🤣

LadyPenelope68 · 19/12/2023 08:26

CirreltheSquirrel · 19/12/2023 07:00

They've substituted my Wensleydale. What will I have with my Christmas cake now?

Sorry, you’ll just have to cancel Christmas now as you CANNOT have Christmas cake without Wensleydale!!

Trez1510 · 19/12/2023 08:40

I've placed an order for my (really) elderly aunt. She's transferred the guide cost directly to me. Oh to be so naïve 😕

Fortunately one of my brothers will be there for the delivery with strict instructions from me as to what should be rejected at the doorstep. Whilst he's doing that, I'll be similarly engaged at my doorstep. Meanwhile my partner will be in the fray at Sainsbury's attempting to secure APPROPRIATE subs for missing items 😁

MissyB1 · 19/12/2023 08:47

You people are all very brave trusting your Christmas food to delivery! I don’t get my food shop delivered anytime I shop in person because I like to see what I’m getting - it’s hard work and a pain the areas chore though! Particularly at Christmas no way could I trust the shop to choose!

shearwater2 · 19/12/2023 09:11

Particularly at Christmas no way could I trust the shop to choose!

Choose what? @MissyB1 I make everything from scratch so it's just a bunch of ingredients and the look of the finished product is up to me. If they can't string a bag of decent carrots together at this time of year then god help them.
