Anyone want to shares there’s? I have a few but the that upsets me is swapping 4 pizzas for 2. Come on Tesco do I not feed the adults or not feed the children?

You people are all very brave trusting your Christmas food to delivery! I don’t get my food shop delivered anytime I shop in person because I like to see what I’m getting - it’s hard work and a pain the areas chore though! Particularly at Christmas no way could I trust the shop to choose!

I think I might now adopt the phrase “a pain in the areas”! 😜 😁

ssd · 19/12/2023 09:29

Christmas shopping is definitely a pain in the areas but like @MissyB1 I'd be too scared to leave it to chance eg. The shop picking for me. I like to take my time and get exactly what i want, ive done picking in a supermarket and its timed within to the minute so its all about grabbing an item and go.

mrsmoppp · 19/12/2023 09:37

Those of you relaying on delivers be very wary a little of stuff has already sold out and started to be reduced

Some people are being very dramatic. Unless Tesco subs your entire food shop for loo rolls or something then it will be absolutely fine. Shops are still open. Food will be eaten. All will be fine.

BearSoFair · 19/12/2023 09:58

Our shop is coming on the 22nd...usually pretty good with Sainsburys so fingers crossed!

Not my sub but I'm not sure if the poster is still around and I still think of it often, I remember someone on a thread like this several years ago who had ordered 'woodland eggs' and received a small wooden owl Grin IIRC she displayed it on the worktop for the laugh every time she saw it!

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 19/12/2023 09:59

I pick for Sainsburys. Yesterday the system suggested yorkshire puddings as a sub for gluten free pastry Hmm

Ariela · 19/12/2023 10:09

The amount of substitutions going on, why do people bother with online?
All veg is bought 7-10 days before (or we grow it, the Brussels look fab this year).
I'll stick to my pre-orders (pick up Friday) from the local shop (milk, bread, already got some in the freezer) & butchers (turkey, ready to cook pigs in blankets), and absolve myself of the need to go to a supermarket till 2024 .

dudsville · 19/12/2023 10:14

I expect some won't think this is that bad, but i ordered a fresh, unadulterated turkey and recieved a turkey crown, in some kind of sealed thick plastic, with pork stuffing and bacon on it. It was in a box so i thought, I don't way pork but no problem I'll just take the pork off, kind of wash it, and make do, but it was in this weird bag and swimming in some kind of gross liquid. I have given it away and went in person to buy the thing i wanted that was in stock on the shelf.

Ew that sounds gross and loads of people don't eat pork

YABU. One pizza should suffice for a family of 4.

Because they're aren't a lot of substitutions, that's the point, so it's massively more convenient. I wouldn't do it if there were. I'm cooking for ten people, it's a lot of food and a lot of weight to carry if I were to do it all at once, or a lot of separate visits if I were to do it separately.

Mazuslongtoenail · 19/12/2023 10:23

Last Christmas my dried cranberries were subbed for frozen blueberries. Not ideal for making cranberry sauce with.

But on the whole I’ve always been surprised by how well I do and usually get everything.

My funniest sub was being given shampoo in place of smoked salmon. Seriously even the delivery driver was laughing 😂😂. Never had one since that was quite so bizarre…

Was going to add “with a massive salad” but really didn’t think it was necessary!

Itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 19/12/2023 10:35

I had a joint of gammon half the size and loads of things with extremely short dates (as in 2 days)

GMsAWinner · 19/12/2023 10:35

This is exactly the reason I do my own shopping. I buy pickles, crackers, xmas cake etc etc in advance, so if can't get one week, I can the next. Salmon and turkey breast already in freezer. Just need to buy milk, veggies, fresh soup, which I can be flexible with but at least I can chose the substitution.

MistletoeandJd · 19/12/2023 10:36

Hot dogs for chorizo 🙈

WildFlowerBees · 19/12/2023 10:38

I untick the subs box and leave a note on items I'm happy to be subbed and ask for what I want instead. So far Tesco have been fine for us. I don't order meat from supermarket so I'm not too bothered if things aren't available.

Though of course not everyone can and some of the substitutions are nuts. Mum and dad had fish cakes replaced with a tub of Aquarian once. Yum yum 😁

Do people make them or are they automated?

First year I've managed to get a christmas click and collect slot (haven't been organised enough before) and you are all giving me the fear that I will still end up in a supermarket at the weekend!

HAF1119 · 19/12/2023 10:43

Well I'm winning so far.. ordered a mini Christmas pudding and got a giant one that serves 8... not complaining! But the main shop isn't until sat.. I'm nervous!

NotARealWookiie · 19/12/2023 10:43

I could only get Asda this year. We do a supermarket delivery for veg/cream/essentials and hit M&S or waitrose for the special foods.

I booked the slot when they were released and added 10 items to the basket- just basics - logged in yesterday to amend the order and every single item has gone up but 15-25p! God knows what they’ll sub…
