Anyone want to shares there’s? I have a few but the that upsets me is swapping 4 pizzas for 2. Come on Tesco do I not feed the adults or not feed the children?

Just had a cucumber substituted with a courgette! Not quite the same in a salad

Got up at 5.30 am to get a Tesco delivery slot. Did my Christmas order with them weeks ago. It arrived today with five substitutions all of them not suitable and no pigs in blankets. What supermarket runs out of pigs in blankets two days before Christmas! Now I have to find time in a really busy day to go shopping tomorrow to try and find acceptable alternatives. What is the bloody point of ordering early if you still get subs. Tesco can do one. Aldi next year.

Do you mean the food slot was arriving at 5.30am? If so, a lot of people shopped instore starting yesterday. If they ran out of pigs in blankets last night, then they won't have had todays replacements on the shelves yet when your order was picked.

There's no foolproof way, but a later time slot usually means that at least the daily early morning delivery has had a chance to arrive before your order is picked

But surely part of the idea of ordering online is it gives a good idea of stock control for the supermarket? Yes people can change their orders but the store should know that 150 customers have pigs in blankets in their online trolley, so they keep the right number for online order fulfilment.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that at all. (Only with actual food to order which is reserved) Really, all you are doing is giving the picker your shopping list at the time of picking. People can change their orders or cancel them completely up to 11pm the night before in most supermarkets, so they don't use (or even view) online orders for stock control purposes. It's a picking, packing and delivery service really.

Instead of prawn cocktail I got crab sticks Envy

PurBal · 22/12/2023 20:12

The worst one is we ordered Shiraz and they delivered Chardonnay.

And the lazy persons, prepared Christmas sides (sprouts) go out of date on 24th.

WaltzingMatilder · 22/12/2023 20:29

Problem is huge night team and isles jammed full of stock make it difficult for pickers to get round first thing, as well as customers. We had customers in at 5.00am, same time pickers start, it gets very fraught, night team are trying to stock shelves, pickers come along and empty shelves, some huge orders for lots of businesses this time of year. Could pick 30 or more of same item, Deliveries always arrive at night, sometimes get delayed, and do not necessarily reach shelves before pickers start. We have 80 pickers in our store, all timed, all being told they are in the way and why can't lazy buggers pick it themselves. It is no easy feat.

Lovelynames123 · 22/12/2023 20:32

I've had 2 click and collect tesco orders this week, one substituted the normal yule log for the finest one, so score, and got coke zero instead of diet coke, which won't bother the kids. Was a little concerned about trusting online for everything but worked out great, and haven't had to go in a shop at all!

autienotnaughty · 22/12/2023 20:32

@BitchImTheSecretIngredient do pickers sometimes substitute because they can't be arsed to find the actual product so just grab something else?

LittleBearPad · 22/12/2023 20:36

Just had the Ocado notification for tomorrow - three substitutions all reasonable. Phew!!

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 22/12/2023 21:13

Only things subbed in our Sainsbury’s order were bacon for slightly different bacon (fine) and ground almonds for more expensive ground almonds (sent them back as we realised we had enough already in the cupboard anyway!).

We get an online grocery shop every single week (live in a city and have no car) and to be honest I can’t think of a single time we’ve had a comical substitution. Sometimes it’s not quite what we wanted, and sometimes things don’t come at all, but we’ve never had anything bizarre!

Skaty88 · 22/12/2023 21:25

Mines coming from Morrisons tonight with half the food missing I’m having to go food shopping in the morning 😑which I obviously wanted to avoid

ReggaeTramp · 22/12/2023 21:30

Collected my Christmas shop today, my marzipan for the cake was substituted with baking paper 🤔

shearwater2 · 23/12/2023 05:12

I've decided to just get the Christmas dinner things today plus a few things for dinner tonight - early doors, already awake, too excited obviously 😅- so my Christmas Eve delivery will just be more of a normal food shop so less critical if things are missing. And DH can pick up the turkey and any last minute items.

BananaSplitsss · 23/12/2023 05:25

My order is arriving at 7am. Just had the receipt emailed to me and no substitutions at all. Order is from Waitrose. Phew …

moleeye · 23/12/2023 05:42

@BananaSplitsss snap!

Food order arriving at 7am. Receipt emailed shows no subs or missing items! Hurrah

Now for Tesco to deliver on time as that's usually the problem....

tealweasel · 23/12/2023 06:34

Ocado order arrived 20 minutes ago - pleasantly surprised to discover it all there with no subs!

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 23/12/2023 06:41

Order turns up at 11am, luckily email receipt says only one sub for sausagemeat to a similar one so all good 👍

TheRealHousewife · 23/12/2023 07:32

Ive just been notified that they have substituted:-

  • Receiving 1 box of 10 eggs instead of tray of 30.
  • Receiving raspberry jelly instead of strawberry.
  • no replacement for the gluten free bread.

Not too bad in the scheme of things but could have done with more eggs and some bread.

bassclef · 23/12/2023 07:36

Just had the receipt for our Ocado order. Two subs - I ordered an M&S 4 classic dip platter, that's been substituted for an Ocado sour cream and chive dip. Then the pate has been subbed for sausage rolls. I suppose they're both made of pork?

YouAndMeAndThem · 23/12/2023 07:42

I had 19 substitutions and 9 items unavailable from Asda including my fancy corn fed chicken, all the alcohol, Christmas pudding, gravy... Essentials!!!! Spent last night 10pm on Tesco trying to salvage what was left and still need to go back today for booze as couldn't buy it after 10pm.😡😡😡 Should have just done it all on Tesco, will know for next year

They won’t have run out of Pigs in Blankets. It’s impossible to actually get in the chiller this time of year so cages of food are worked as they come out.
It means the person picking your order can only chose from what whats on the shop floor rather than have a rummage in the chiller like they can sometimes do.

UserM6 · 23/12/2023 07:46

@RainbowZebraWarrior whoops that was meant for the person originally posting. You are correct. Later time slots are better.

99point6 · 23/12/2023 07:48

No white sliced Hovis from Asda. I had allowed subs! No bog standard pan in the shop? Ocado was bad for that sort of thing as the robot only made one pass.
They subbed parsley for mint. That will work in a mojito. Moot point as no limes either.
Subbed vegetarian quiche for quiche Lorraine.

Snackpocket · 23/12/2023 07:53

Just checked my receipt for delivery this morning. 6 subs from Sainsbury’s but all sensible. Bigger packs of eggs, chipolatas and apple juice subbed for multiple smaller packs. Crumpets and bake at home baguettes subbed for other brands and rolls. Worst is mac and cheese bites being subbed for mozzarella sticks but I can live with that! 😁
