Anyone want to shares there’s? I have a few but the that upsets me is swapping 4 pizzas for 2. Come on Tesco do I not feed the adults or not feed the children?

Substitution of a Turkey for a nut roast last year...I guess I should be thankful they didn't do it the other way around to some poor Vegan! The strawberries for desert arrived covered in mould...

I haven't done an online order since. Would rather brave the stores and ensure I get what I want and it's not covered in mould. 😶

NannyGythaOgg · 19/12/2023 14:16

I've just won on a Morrison's Amazon order.

Tequila and Cointreau were part of the order and they both arrived with their security tags still in situ.
I rang to complain and they have refunded both, with no need to return. I can still remove the caps and drink the liqueurs - just looks like I have nicked them.

DRS1970 · 19/12/2023 14:18

Asda here - ordered a pack of frozen Yorkshire puddings - they were substituted for a pack of pancakes.

Is it sad that I am quite excited to see what my substitutions are? Asda arriving Friday, but am picking up meat/vegan order from Sainsburys early Saturday so can pick up anything else we need then!

Particularly at Christmas no way could I trust the shop to choose!

Choose what? @MissyB1 I make everything from scratch so it's just a bunch of ingredients and the look of the finished product is up to me. If they can't string a bag of decent carrots together at this time of year then god help them.

Edited

I'm sure they could string a bag of carrots together easily.

Not much use to the person who has ordered three pineapples though...

mumonthehill · 19/12/2023 14:43

Last year cottage cheese instead of cream cheese- would have made a very odd cheesecake!

furtivetussling · 19/12/2023 15:06

I want pizza for dinner now. Grin

PotterHead1985 · 19/12/2023 15:10

I've had an array of subs over time, but was put off when during covid I ordered 50g of chorizo for 55p and they sent 500g of chorizo for 5 pound 55! I wanted enough for one dish (and only for one of two people eating as my elderly dm doesn't like it)

Izit · 19/12/2023 15:14

Years ago Tesco subbed my 2.5kg Christmas ham with a packet of 4 thin slices of cheap looking sandwich ham.
On Christmas Eve.

I stopped using them after that.

Last Christmas my dried cranberries were subbed for frozen blueberries. Not ideal for making cranberry sauce with.

But on the whole I’ve always been surprised by how well I do and usually get everything.

My mum had her cranberries subbed for raspberries this year 🤣

Well I'm winning so far.. ordered a mini Christmas pudding and got a giant one that serves 8... not complaining! But the main shop isn't until sat.. I'm nervous!

I had the opposite problem - ordered a family sized Christmas pudding and received a mini one. Happened again the following year too! I make my own now Grin

YABU. One pizza should suffice for a family of 4.

Both my teenage son and husband would eat a whole shop bought pizza to themselves. Myself and pre teen daughter would share one. I would love to see my husband and sons face if I served them up a quarter of a shop bought pizza for dinner.

I'm with you. I would far rather brave the stores and see the quality of the produce. Also, if something is out of stock I can use my own initiative to choose a replacement. Besides, I don't really mind food shopping. It's putting it all away that I hate.

ChiaraRimini · 19/12/2023 16:19

I have already bought (and eaten some of Blush) the store cupboard stuff.
Will go to M&S early doors on the 23rd to pick up all the fresh stuff plus any bits we've forgotten. They are always well stocked then and if you go at opening time it's not busy, I can be in and out in half an hour. That way I don't have to worry about random substitutions. I find it much easier than staying up late weeks in advance trying to book a delivery slot and then worrying about subs.

butterpuffed · 19/12/2023 16:23

Asda ~ had two chicken breasts substituted by a pack of four yoghurts ! All I could think was maybe it was the picker's last day and he did it for a laugh .

SomethingAboutNothing · 19/12/2023 16:33

Our initial Christmas shop is coming tonight, will go to the shops on Friday for the rest.

I ordered 3 packs of mascarpone, they've been substituted for 6 mozzarella balls. The tiramisu is going to be interesting this year 😂

DH bought some spirits in Sainsbury’s (an actual shop) a couple of weeks ago. The bottle still has the tag, but is pourable.

I asked him if the alarm went off as he walked out, and apparently it didn’t.

Oh here we go. The competitive under eaters are in. 🙄

I don't know what you mean 😂Surely everyone still has turkey left in the freezer from last year? I find a whole one, jointed and frozen, lasts at least a year for a family of 6 if you pad it out with a few lentils😂

Howdidtheydothat · 19/12/2023 17:00

Size 2 nappies instead of toddler pull ups 🤣 💩

cat treats instead of dog treats

liver instead of black pudding

cucumber instead of courgettes

sausages instead of pigs in blankets ( no bacon to accompany, otherwise would have been fine)

Plus there’s always the joy of grabbing that last minute bargain!

This is it. You see things in the shops that you might not see online or that you weren't specifically looking for.

Lilibert456 · 19/12/2023 17:40

Bracing myself for the subs or unavailables but will have Saturday to put right if possible.
