Should I report this?

At 7:40am we had someone ring our doorbell no less than 10 times and bang on the door. We assumed it was something serious so shot up, put clothes on and went downstairs.

In that timeframe, we heard them try our door handle, bang the door and ring the doorbell several times again.

It was a fucking delivery driver dropping off a parcel.

I checked the security cameras and he did indeed try to see if our door was open.

In what world is this acceptable? Why would you try to see if our door is unlocked? All lights were off and blinds closed because we were asleep!

I'm half tempted to report this. Would you?

Yes!

Frasers · 14/12/2023 08:18

No, I wouldn’t, it needs to be very serious before I try to get someone paid very little and who needs to work those kind of hours fired. And this is not that kind of serious.

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:19

@Frasers someone trying to open your door isn't serious? Interesting.

NameChange259 · 14/12/2023 08:20

No I wouldn’t report - my drivers regularly drop things in through the door, but then I do have a porch.

there’s not long till Christmas - they are massively under pressure with huge workloads

LakeTiticaca · 14/12/2023 08:20

Report to who? The police won't do anything. He's probably got a van full of parcels to deliver and trying to earn some money to feed his family

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:21

@NameChange259 we don't have a porch. It's a normal front door straight into our home.

OP posts:
bumtrumpet · 14/12/2023 08:21

He presumably was trying to leave your parcel out the rain rather than rob your tv. Poor judgement yes, would I get him sacked before Christmas by reporting, no.

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:21

@LakeTiticaca the delivery company. At what point does it say he can try to enter the home to deliver a parcel?

OP posts:
bumtrumpet · 14/12/2023 08:22

I doubt he was going to enter, just shove your parcel in for you.

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:22

@bumtrumpet it's not raining and we have a canopy over on front door and live on a very private cul de sac.

@Frasers someone trying to open your door isn't serious? Interesting.

Not when they are trying to deliver a parcel you have ordered, no.

bumtrumpet · 14/12/2023 08:23

Report him then and get him sacked for trying to do you a favour.

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:24

@bumtrumpet leave it in a safe place. Or give someone more than 30 seconds to get to the door. Don't try to see if my home is unlocked.

OP posts:
Whinge · 14/12/2023 08:25

It's obvious you're going to report him, even if the majority of posters say they wouldn't, so i'm not sure why you've bothered asking. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would just be glad I have the item/s I ordered, rather than having to wait in or rearrage the delivery date.

bumtrumpet · 14/12/2023 08:26

He rang your bell ten times within 30 seconds? Impressive. Anyway, I wouldn't report him but you clearly want to. Not sure what anyone says will make a difference to you.

Mazuslongtoenail · 14/12/2023 08:26

I would like it if my parcel was left inside the door. It’s happened before and I found it convenient.

You don’t want it to happen and it didn’t because your door was locked. So no need to worry or get him in trouble for doing something that didn’t even happen.

Ladyj84 · 14/12/2023 08:26

Erm I wouldn't report where we live it's very common to find a parcel inside the door or porch because we are miles away in a tiny town from anywhere. For something quite insignificant I wouldn't want to put a small wage, high pressure delivery driver possibly out of a job. You confirmed it was only a delivery via door bell so I don't see the need tbh

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:26

@Whinge not obvious at all. I'm asking opinions to see if I'm rightfully pissed off.

We don't need to wait in for parcels here. We and other neighbours have parcels left safely outside all the time.

Have we had the classic Mumsnet response yet of:

“Why weren’t you up at 7:40?? 😵‍💫”

😂

DejaVoodoo · 14/12/2023 08:28

You should leave feedback to the effect that you'd rather the delivery drivers didn't try your door, rather than make an actual complaint.

Ladyj84 · 14/12/2023 08:29

How was the driver supposed to know he could leave it safely on your door step, fairly good thinking that he is one of a few that actually wanted to put it safe for you and 7.40 isn't that early and it takes more than 30seconds to get clothes in and how long did he knock before you woke.. I think the bee in your bonnet is you got woken up lol maybe go grab a cuppa 😊

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:29

@Snowdogsmitten I was waiting for it! It's lie in day for us Blush

OP posts:
secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:30

@DejaVoodoo this is what I was going to do. Not report to the police. Not locate a number for the delivery company. Thanks for your reply!

OP posts:
Snowdogsmitten · 14/12/2023 08:30

I’d be pissed off too, OP. I had an Evri driver chuck all my parcels over a 7 foot gate, including an ice maker, and they were broken. I complained.

secretsanta23 · 14/12/2023 08:31

@Ladyj84 we always leave delivery notes. If we're not home or don't answer, leave at back gate or by front door. Probably pissed off I am tired! Brew
