...the lid of your wheelie bin is frozen shut. 😂

Come tell me the random little signs of winter where you are. ❄🌨

It shouldn't but it really is horrid.

It's an odd building so most of it is upstairs and someone else is tucked below my bedroom and living room. I don't think that helps with the stuffiness. And I've got arthritis so I absolutely can't have the window open because then it's too cold and my joints are aching enough already.

Nightmare!

Sounds like you need a dehumidifier to stop the stuffiness especially as you can't open windows at all

I had terrible pain in my right thumb, doc said wear and tear arthritis, gave me a steroid injection in July and it's been wonderful, took two weeks nearly to kick in but I don't have pain any more. I can have further injections apparently but fingers crossed, I won't need another one for a while yet.

Mine is due to carelessly slamming it in a caravan door some years ago. Right thumb as well. It makes using scissors a nuisance, because I can't get my lumpy thumb through to hold them properly.

When I start worrying about DSs rabbits, and spend all day lining their house (a full sized shed) with insulation, draught excluders around the door and windows, fill it with extra hay and straw, buy pet heat pads and run an extension cable from the house and plug in a heater to warm it up before I shut them in for bedtime (as they free roam the garden/their house during the day).

DS would be devastated if they died, and I'd be guilt ridden for both the rabbits and my DS.

They aren't house rabbits, they were never happy inside the house. They've been super happy since we built them their own rabbit house and let them roam. But the thought of them out in a shed in these freezing conditions fills me with anxiety!

DH thinks I'm mad.

This makes you a good pet owner, not mad! I'm sure they're loving their warmer home ❤️

Tiredallthetimeneedsleep · 01/12/2023 21:16

BarelyCoping123 · 01/12/2023 21:20

It's 9 degrees C in my kitchen 😭

ProfessorInkling · 01/12/2023 21:24

You get your electric butter dish out (hallelujah).

You're late for work because misty windscreen.

When my toddler actually keeps her hat on instead of pulling it off the second I put it on her!

LeakyPipes · 01/12/2023 21:28

Olive oil gets cloudy and thick in the bottle. Two hot water bottles in bed 😁

BarelyCoping123 · 01/12/2023 21:29

Heated driveways and electric butter dishes?!

Stuffy air in my house because I can't open the windows or have the heating on significantly because it's unbearable.

Oh I get this! We had a 1960s house but used some green grant to get cavity wall insulation and loft insulation. It became unbearable. Our plumber lowered the heat on our boiler which helped a bit but even with thermostat it reached unbearably stuffy and stayed there for hours. When we opened the windows it got cold too quickly so we closed them and stayed with the stuffy feeling. The heat in summer made us eventually move house. Our "new" uninsulated 1930s house is very cold downstairs right now which is a pain but I wouldn't trade it for the old house.

Olivia199 · 01/12/2023 21:33

You have to de-ice your car before AND after work.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 01/12/2023 21:34

When your nipples are like peanuts 😳

Inthebleakmidwinter2 · 01/12/2023 21:46

A positive one- You don't have to worry about what you look like for the school run, because you can just throw on a big coat and put a hat on.

Trinity65 · 01/12/2023 21:49

My outside loving cat turns his nose up at the cold air and stays inside

AcrossthePond55 · 01/12/2023 21:51

Simonjt · 01/12/2023 18:47

They’re more common here, basically underfloor heating but outside, it only heats to be just warm enough to stop ice forming.

My cousins in Nebraska have a heated drive. Our friends in Tahoe have a heated driveway AND a heated roof (well, the front sections of it). I think they should be required by law lol.

As far as the thread title goes; I know it's chilly outside when the dog can't be bothered to sniff the entire front lawn to find the 'right' spot. It's out, pee, run back in. For me, it's when I can no longer go outside barefoot.

user6776 · 01/12/2023 21:52

When you defrost your car in the morning, go back in the house for 10 mins and have to defrost it again 🥶

FreshWinterMorning · 01/12/2023 22:02

@sixteenfurryfeet

This has happened to me on all 3 bins! For the last few days... (Purple lidded one, green one, and grey one!) I have tipped some warm water all over the lids to free them, and placed a small flat piece of slate, like the size of a domino under the lid on each bin, so I can open it and put stuff in!

Shufflebumnessie · 01/12/2023 22:04

Our female cat spends 90% of her time in the house. Normally she is a very independent, predominantly outdoor cat.

The glass of water on my bedside table is still ice cold the following morning.

JoanThursday · 01/12/2023 22:12

The thermostat in the hall reads 15C just one hour after the morning heating has gone off.

I need to warm the mug before making tea, otherwise it's merely tepid before I've drunk it all.

Soberfutures · 01/12/2023 22:12

So many cat ones. Lol. Mine are shouting to me why can't I make the weather warmer. Its like having an argument with a toddler. Yes I know u like to play out at night and bring me presents in the morning but not at -4° ....
Tho for me it's actually saying it's cold as hot flushes galore in my body so I'm usually happy for the fresher air.

JoanThursday · 01/12/2023 22:13

... and cold water from the tap makes my teeth tingle.
